"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZbin. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZbin, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Harris met with Uncommitted president's back stage. She asked aides to meet with them. Then protestors begin their chant, she politely says USA is a democracy with free speech, we hear you and I am speaking now. The protestors continued, became heckling as voters came to hear Harris and how she would help them, Michigan, USA. Harris is not running for office in Dearborn Michigan. She is running for office for all of USA. Ppl came to hear Kamala. She met with them backstage, she scheduled follow up meetings with aids. She was polite initially to recognize them but when they continued to drown out Harris and ppl came to hear Harris, she said enough. LET ME SPEAK AND YES WAKE UP, TOU DONT VORMTE, TRUMP GETS IN, TRUMP UNITES WITH NETANYAHU TO EXTERMINATE PALESTINIANS AND TAKE RHEIR LAND. TRUMP PROMISED TRUMP TOWER PROPERTY IN GAZA WEST BANK. HARRIS push for ceasefire, 2 state solution with Palestine as a sovreign state. Protestors are sabotaging themselves. Don't vote Trump in Frankly the abortion issue is hot. You have Taylor Swift Beyonce do concerts for her. She has momentum. She may not need Arab vote and that is relief as Arabs pretty much say they won't vote for her, she needs to turn to youth abortion, housing, etc. Protestors are alienating other voters, hope they don't alienate Harris who is really trying to help them. She decline tompreside over Bb speech. She met with Bb and said to his face before announce to world, end war, sigh ceasefire, stop suffering, stop starving and bombing civilians, end this. Two state with Palestine as sovreign nation. She caught hell fot that from elites but voters love her for it as 85% democrats want ceasefire, aid, hostages, 2 state. Then protestors bash Harris like are you kidding?????

@@Icemann89 No Hamas came from decades of Israel ruling over Palestine essentially. Israel started it and Hamas essentially came out of rebellion. Israel and Palestine have had conflict since dating back to biblical times. Obviously, killing innocent Israelis is bad but when Israel has killed, since October 7th, a minimum of 49,000 people and a maximum of 186,000 people and over 90% of them being killed are innocent civilians(i.e. Not Hamas), it's very clear they're committing a genocide. Not only that but systemic rape is being carried by the IDF as well and there's literally no way to defend rape. The US probably would react similarly considering the fact that the three main candidates all support Israel so that's indicative of what they believe in. That needs to end but for many it comes down to Judeo-Christian issues and that is a tough nut to crack. Especially in the USA where many think we are a Christian nation founded on Christian principles and Jews get a free pass because evangelicals tell them they are the chosen ones and collect that ca-ching from them. Granted many Jews are against the genocide in Gaza they are a small voice in the reality of things. Next consider how much money is donated to these Politian's from pro Israel factions. The people yelling, can they morally justify contributing to helping this go on for voting for either of the people who have done nothing and said that they will do nothing to stop it? They have been told for months that supporting Jen s*de is a red line by people on the left and that they would not vote for Biden if he didn't change policy. If she continues to flip off those people as well, they won't vote for her either. But instead of trying to reach those people and show a spine, instead we have to only try to appeal to the people on the right. Now isn't the time for "subtle signals". We have been watching a Jen s*de for nearly a year. The majority of Americans are horrified by it. Any one with even a shred of integrity would be very vocally making it obvious this won't stand under them. The libertarian party will also be on most states or accept write in, however none of these parties are platformed at the debates. The media will not interview the candidates and almost all voters see them as spoiler candidates that take votes from the Democrat(Green) or Republican (Libertarian)party. The way media ignores them and the amount of money it takes to get a party federal level is a big problem for other parties. Look up USA last presidential election and check voter numbers, you will see how small other parties are.

I think she is indeed more empathetic to the protesters and Palestinians than Biden. In this scenario, she simply wanted to show off her girl boss vibe which is such a turn off. Why do all those politicians like to teach voters how to behave?

the girl boss thing is cringy, but it's needed at first. a lot of politics is just optics. and as far teaching voters how to behave, most voters are just NPC autonomous dumb dumbs

Reading the comments, we finally realize how the USA can provide weapons and support, apparently unconditional, to a fascist country engaged for almost a year in a genocidal enterprise. This same country that has been colonizing and guilty of apartheid, ethnic cleansing and a whole bunch of war crimes for decades and always with the support of the USA. Logistics. Military. Politics. (Veto after veto). For those of you who still have some moral principles, I would like to tell you that no; it is not by choosing a lesser evil that we avoid the worst. Please, do not let yourself be frightened by this scarecrow that is waved at you every time the moment of making a crucial decision arises. The scarecrow of billionaires who scream at you "TINA! TINA! TINA!" There is No Alternative. Listen to this inner voice that assures you that there is always a way. Trust and follow your instincts. Keep fighting the fight. Always. Good luck.

As one Joseph Biden said about 15 years back in front of congress? "If israel didnt exist, we would want to invent it." And of course people in the state department did in the nineteen-fourties. As declassified documentation shows. Post WW2 the US wanted to have an armed outpost to project power to the middle east And the brits had the problem of a whole desparate population of fleeing european jewish folks who where already already primed for the idea by Herzl. And highly motivated by the holocaust to create just such an installation if properly eyquipped and financed. So ways where found to do that. Since then not much has changed. Except that US control over its plausible deniability proxy has waned and waxed from admin to admin. Modern US peace advocates seem to misunderstand the power balance here. US isnt used, its the user.

A prosecutorial attitude isn't necessarily what is needed here. That was a very ugly moment. Right after i saw this, i spoke to a family member about how Obama handled protestors, with grace, respect, often humor, and acknowledgment of the First Amendment.

The leftists have gone completely mad on this palestine position. Optics matter. If they claim to care for the people dying, they should get real and understand this style of protest get them nowhere. Should be more appealing to independents and libs

I heard the same talking points back in 2020. Biden continued to capitulate to Republican demands and now it’s 2024 and we are back where we started. It’s funny how it’s like that every 4 years. Also, this is bad optics for her.
