Yes, I have grown so much as a nurse in the past 8 years! It’s hard to believe how much I’ve learned. As a nurse manager now, my passion is helping our new grads learn and become great nurses. No need to be afraid new nurses, lean on your fellow colleagues who have the experience you will gain with time. Be patient with yourself and before you know it you will be sharing your knowledge with the next generation of nurses. 💜

My man Nurse Bass! Been listening to you when I started this journey four years ago and the motto, “study as if your patient’s life depends on it” has kept me grounded. I just came off orientation yesterday, and I came home feeling defeated, lack of appetite, and anxiety. Then, the Lord has blessed me with your video! Keep up the great work, and I’m always loving and supporting your content! Here’s hoping the next year is when I can get some of that comfort..

I really appreciate you stopping in and for sharing a bit. Congrats on coming off orientation, you're making steps! Now comes a bit of the uncomfortable, a lot of building and a lot of refining. You can only imagine where you'll be from Day 1 to Year 1 :D

I have had nurses with 20+ years experience say that they still get this anxiety sometimes too. Usually when it’s been a very busy day or when taking care of a crashing, more critical patient. They tell me this stress is actually a good thing because it motivates you to be a good nurse and check what you are doing. it’s when you DONT have that stress that it’s a problem and you will probably make a mistake. Still going through the new nurse feelings myself but wanted to pass on the wisdom I’ve been told ❤️

Mistakes will happen, and you will make them. It happens. But you will learn from those mistakes. You will feel overwhelmed. And that may not go away 100%. I still feel overwhelmed at times (although I have chronic anxiety unrelated to work also) My advice is to find a mentor to guide you through these feelings. I used to second guess my bp readings. That’s okay! I relied on my very experienced Lpn colleague. You will get there, be patient and know that you have the ability to change someone’s life. You can inspire someone to become a nurse. You can help a patient die comfortably. You can make a depressed patient laugh. There is so much good you can do as a nurse. Don’t give up, and know that there is always an avenue of nursing that you will fit into. 💜

Hi Nurse Bass, I was in cardiac PCU for about 4 months at night but I couldn't find a good sleep schedule.. I was given the option to move to days but in Med/surge oncology hospice. It is NOT for me. I want to leave because I dread going to work and I am very unhappy and I now I have insomnia and I'm not eating. My gut tells me to to just let go of this job. Ive had plenty of jobs and never felt like that.

Another good one along with another good hat! I didn’t subscribe to your channel until last month! I’ve seen your channel in the past, but for some reason I was consumed in the Nurse Nook, the urban nurse, etc. I was really missing out 😩 But I’m here now! I love your content!

Why ya gotta call a brother out like this, B? Kidding... but for real, this is me. Learning lots, trying to learn daily, but man.... still waking up in the middle of the night with little things I forgot or could have done better. Good timing on this one.

I suppose it doesn't help that my hospital is now critically short staffed, has a mobile morgue on site, has national guard troops to help alleviate the surge, and is contemplating 6-7 patients per nurse (normally 4-5) to deal with the surge... even the experienced nurses are overwhelmed and looking for an exit. This wasn't the way I wanted or envisioned starting my nursing career.

Yeah brother I’m feeling for all the new. This isn’t what anyone signed up for and definitely not the way you want a career in the profession to be started. But yes, even 4.5 years in, I’m still self-sharpening and losing some sleep over things. We’re always most critical of ourselves
