This is my 2nd favorite movie of all time! I've lost count how many times I have watched it and I'm never bored with it. I love how at the end of your video you spliced the audio of the dad talking about needing to see as sad person in the picture looking sad to feel the emotion, with the visual of the snow covered car.

I truly thought the camera and editing work in this film was brilliant and really moved along the narrative. It was the editing that told the story more than the dialogue itself.

This movie felt like a dream, I was in a daze during and afterwards, and have never heard anyone talk about it, excited to hear what you have to say

As I see it, Jake is the everyman here. True, a film need not need a specific time to be relevant. But with so many of us aging, and the persistence of memory as something people see as a romantic narration - in addition to the inability for one to relate a memory to another, without it becoming significantly changed, simply due to summarization - I can understand why this story fits so well. Excellent video and retrospective, subbed of course, and you have a wonderfully cut and pleasantly narrated piece of art.

Awesome video! I loved this movie when it came out but don't have the knowledge to point out all the great things about it like you did. I can't wait to see what other videos you do in the future!!

Yes. Precisely so. Lord, I need to rewatch this movie. I'd watched Synecdoche, New York and loved it back when it came out, but had never dug deep into Kaufman's films until watching this one. Turned it on randomly, not even realizing it was by the guy who wrote *Being John Malkovich* . I've revisited all his work since, and they've all moved me. Don't know how else to say it. *Adaptation* is probably my favorite, but I read his novel *Antkind* , I read the *Frank or Francis* screenplay, I went for the extra credit. And I think I need to return to this root, now that I know Kaufman's cinematic language and can see that same mark in this one in retrospect. There are scenes (the Tulsey Town animation, delivering the *Beautiful Mind* speech to a crowd of actors in old age makeup) that on first watch were just odd or creepy but now also make me laugh in the Kaufman meta. As far as I'm concerned there should be as many video essays dissecting Kaufman's bibliography as there on From Software games.

I'll be honest, I didn't care for the film when I saw it back in 2020, even though I've enjoyed similar surrealist art films (e.g., Mulholland Drive), but your video has me interested to revisit the film
