TJ nailed it. The past three decades have been bad but the past handful of seasons have been brutal. The hope and high expectations that led to balloon pop endings and mediocrity - it's depressing. The only joy NFL-wise is watching Mahomes, the two-sport phenom from Whitehouse, Texas, play on Sundays. Jerry Jones is a plague. He's a curse. I'd been coming around to possibly forgiving him for the way he handled Tom Landry because the legend didn't really give him a choice, but Jones is the Cowboy culture, and the franchise will continue to suffer until the hex that is Jerry Jones is exorcised.

The Dallas Cowboys story is simple: "Flow," by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, was shown on the 1993 NBC Super Bowl broadcast as the book that inspired Jimmy Johnson, then coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Johnson studied his craft, and delivered three Super Bowl-winning teams, the last one so locked in that he wasn't even there and what he put in place was good enough to win. But since that last SB win, Jerry Jones has had the fullest, most complete impression and impact on the Cowboys; Jones has looked far and wide across the NFL and provided Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde, Stephen McGee, Kyle Orton, Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassell, Andy Dalton, Garrett Gilbert, Ben DiNucci, Cooper Rush, Trey Lance and an overpaid Dak Prescott as leaders of men on the offensive side of the ball, Shante Carver, Bobby Carpenter, Morris Claiborne, Taco Charlton, Kelvin Joseph, Trysten Hill, Nahshon Wright and Neville Gallimore as leaders of effort and skill on the defensive side of the ball, and hasn't had game-changing impact on special teams since Bill Bates (1997, and bless him in his struggles with post-concussion syndrome). Jones...has been a JOKE, a JOKE, for thirty years. Period, point blank. End of discussion. The only thing you can say about the Cowboys is that they are a marketing FORCE, given their footballing FAILURE.
