Honestly it feels like what 40k is to the Second World War the Solar Auxilia (and HH more broadly) is to the First World War. It feels like a lot of familiar concepts are emerging, but they've not quite been fully developed yet.

Tank crews actually prefer to have exposed track, makes both track/running gear maintenance and repair much much much easier. I cannot emphasize the word much enough here. Also it’s not really an issue for stuff getting “pinched” track segments are pretty large and the gaps between them are also pretty large, so unless you get something caught while on the move (which shouldn’t have been there in the first place), you will have no issues. The only real downside to exposed tracks is they kick up a metric ton of dust which makes it easier for the enemy to spot your tank formation at a distance.

I take issue on your assessment of the guard tanks and their suspension. You might note that the tracks on the Mk IV tank launched in WWI had the same track system that eked out from the hull. It crossed, (Or bulldozed objects) in front of it on the battlefield quite comfortably and I think you will agree that the pictures of those battlefields did not portray a surface akin to a billiard table top. In fact there would be a few spinners who dreamed of a WWI surface to bowl on.

Question: isnt Solar Auxiliar responsible for protecting Solar system and template from whitch Imperial Guard is created ? It would then make sense that they are high-tech but at the same time antique.
@richyhu204211 ай бұрын
Technically the Solar Auxilla are the precursor for the Guard but are more like a Guard/Scions hybrid. Elite mortal human warriors meant to garrison and sweep up worlds so the Marines can keep moving forward. They're called the Solar Auxilla because originally they were just drawn from the various cultures in the Solar System but they've expanded with the Expeditionary Fleets. IIRC they don't actually exist in "modern" M41, at least not like how they used to be.
@HeartlessNinny111 ай бұрын
Sort of. They're meant to supplement the Legio Astartes in the lore. So in 40K, Space Marines are quite rare in the lore, but in 30K they were the bulk of Terra's armies.
@imperialofficerremusblackw845211 ай бұрын
They were the middle ground between imperial army and astartes. Normal humans with armored voidsuits and at the start of the great crusade had volkite weapons as standard issue (slowly phased out for lasguns, volkite hard to make). They were often even sent on their own as expeditionary fleets.

When I saw videos of the Legions Imperialis box, I did think that the Leman Russes looked a bit longer and wondered whether they were getting Mars Alpha. It's looking like I was correct, especially fitting that GW would use the FW pattern for HH. You said at the start that you don't know why GW would make a duplicate of an existing model with no apparent intention to retire the original; they did that with the Rhino already when they redesigned the Deimos pattern in plastic. I dont like those Sentinels, though: the hip joints are too high on the hull, they give it the appearance that it can only waddle forward. I wouldn't have any issue with those Auxilia infantry being used as Voidsmen, etc, they have a similar antique vibe as we've seen in the AdMech range on occasion.

@davidthomas287011 ай бұрын
It does currently have rules! It's not bad, kinda competes with the Rogal Dorn for a role (a little less firepower, has -1 damage instead of ablative plating, 250pts at time of comment), makes a convincing argument for being a slightly more points budget friendly heavy tank. The malcador variants, on the other hand, are way to points expensive to be any good rn. Hopefully those get a points buff, because their rules are not terrible but they're just expensive for the firepower. Also the Valdor is kinda terrible sadly.

Doubling up on the leman russ isn't really any different from doubling up on the Predator for heresy space marines. The heresy kit in both cases has additional weapons not available to the 40k variant. This new mars alpha variant looks great and it's good to see a return of various OOP turrets from the krieg range. It's a shame that Solar Auxilia are still allergic to having sponsons on their russes because in 40k if you don't take those you're wasting points, but they should hopefully be convertable to allow for mounting 3rd party sponsons.

All we got for 40k was was the Kroot, which granted was MASSIVE for Tau players, and the Mandrakes which are technically for killteam and having them for 40k is just a bonus. Aside from 40k though, there were a few Sugmar reveals and the Auxilia for 30k, but that's about it. There was no Legions Imperialis, there was no Blood Bowl, there was no Old World, and no reveals for for the 3 whole other 40k factions that are supposed to be getting their codexes around the same time as the Tau. I would prefer rules to match the ideal. In 30k rules there are some good vehicles, but it was Squadron rules that were more interesting. A group of 2-3 Leman Russ tanks were better than a Malcador. Unless they make elite Leman Russ tanks with stats its not that interesting. A really cool Malcador model doesnt change that numbers matter. The Rogal Dorn heavy tank coming out was a big deal because its actually got better guns than the Leman Russ, making it an actual heavy tank instead of just being a bigger tank. The Malcador was a failure but way back Forge World released the next one, the Macharius. WHile the Machrius didnt have better armor or guns than a Leman Russ, it did carry twin main guns. The Macharius heavy tank also had a new tank gun, the Vulcan Mega Bolter, which was very impressive at killing MEQs like Necrons and Chaos Space Marines.
