So back when Persona 3 reload was first announced, I made a video covering my thoughts and expectations surrounding the project. At the time of making it, there wasn’t really a whole lot to discuss so that video mostly served to capture my raw emotions surrounding the project. However, since then plenty of more info and trailers have dropped; enough that we can paint a much better picture as to what this remake will actually be like. My initial video is pretty outdated at this point so I figured I may as well give my updated thoughts on the more recent content released surrounding this game. Don’t worry I won’t make this a habit. I’m not about to start doing weekly Persona 3 news recaps or anything. Because there are plenty of people that already do that much better than I ever could. This is the first time since, I want to say, Persona 5 when I’ve been this legitimately excited for an Atlus game to come out. Oh and I don’t mean Persona 5 Royal, I mean Persona 5. In case you need a reminder, that game came out in the West all the way back in April of 2017. So yeah it’s safe to say it’s been quite a bit since then. It’s not that I haven’t cared about Atlus’s more recent output, but there hasn’t been anything that’s truly captured my attention as Reload has. Believe it or not, Persona 3 is a pretty significant game to me despite it not being my favorite persona game. It’s the game that basically kickstarted my career and has led me down the path to where I am today. So yeah, I do kind of care about its legacy and how this remake is going to impact how people preserve it.
I'm worried about Persona 3 Reload. Persona 3 Reload is the upcoming Persona 3 Remake and in this Persona 3 Reload speculation video, I'm going to be dissecting what we've seen of Persona 3 Reload to determine whether or not we should get excited for Persona 3 Reload. Something to keep in mind is that this Persona 3 Reload discussion video isn't a Persona 3 Reload Review, Persona 3 Reload Analysis or a Persona 3 Reload Critique. I will be doing a Persona 3 Reload Review, Persona 3 Reload Analysis, Persona 3 Reload Critique after the game comes out but right now there is nothing to review with Persona 3 Reload aside from the Persona 3 Reload trailer. Nam's Compendium is a big Persona 3 fan so we'll just have to wait and see if he likes Persona 3 Reload.

@@jairekambui7738 I think it's pretty integral for the gameplay. The first Tartarus guardians are weak to pierce, which the bow deals. You can't get any Persona's early enough that deal pierce. So being able to equip the bow as the protagonist vastly gives you the upper hand and it adds to the experience and changes the way you play tactically.

I appreciate the bit at the end about fans getting way too up in arms about this not being some all encompassing remake of Persona 3 that it was never going to be. It's been my biggest issue in interfacing with the community, especially because I get the sense that P Studios actually is doing their homework and trying their best with this one. It's kind of an unwinnable situation for them, because they either add everything and force the game to undergo a lot more development for little gain (People mad about The Answer don't even fucking like it in the first place) or they move on from that old content and have people bitch about that. That said...I think a lot of the worries levied at Reload are...not really taking in the perspective of a newcomer, for as much as they're trying to. I understand the appeal of the AI party members, KIND OF, but like...how many people are actually using them when the core mechanics are as good as they are? Why are you asking for LESS direct control? LESS of your own interaction in a video game? Your average newcomer doesn't have the time to do multiple P3 playthroughs to appreciate the AI, let alone even fully grasp things like the benefits you can get from the jazz club or pool in P5R on their first playthrough. It really confounds me when veteran players of a series say things like "I want new players to experience a great version of this game" when they're basing that off of what THEY think is a great version instead of what might be best for a brand new player. This is tied for my favorite game of all time, and while a big part of me was also scared of this remake, the original is not perfect in its gameplay or its writing. I understand remake culture is bad and I'd much prefer original art, but if a remake is what we're going to get I hate that so often the original work is put up on some pedestal that the community NEVER put it on before it was up to be remade.

It’s been utterly hilarious to me seeing all these veteran megaten “fans” clamor about missing AI controlled party members when that was the number one complaint that was levied against OG Persona 3 for close to a decade. I hated not controlling my party members when I played original P3 on the PS2, especially coming off of RPGs like FFX. I honestly can not believe there are some people who want less control in their RPG games.

@@jujublue4426 that's why it is so hard to choose between P3 FES and P3P. P3P has a "better" battle system, but the visual and audio quality is terrible, and I just don't vibe with the backgrounds being static images. The world just doesn't "feel" as alive as compared to P3 FES.

What I've come to realize is the Persona community these days just does not care about having well tuned, balance experience. P5R is nearly universally praised yet every single one of it's "QoL" additions only serves to undermine the games very own design. Your fears about Persona 3 losing it's own unique identity are very valid. All of P3's unique aspects could have been tweaked and improved and yet they choose to just scrap them and replace them mechanics from P5R. One silver lining is that at the very least they realized some of those mechanics were a little too powerful. P3's version of the Baton Pass doesn't give you a power boost anymore. That's something I guess.

For p3 I think it's justified just because the route was only ever present in portable and nowhere else, so it understandably wouldn't have been a priority for a remake of p3, but I do hope persona 6 could have the option from the start

Not to mention its 70 dollars with day one dlc that make it 100 dollars. It seem like the least they could was make the remake definitive instead of another version of persona 3 which they will probably rerelease again. That would have been a day one buy for me easily but seeing how it don't even got the Answer which was canon story content and epilogue to the game is missing just seem wrong. Only thing worse they could do is change the ending of the original game so the Answer is just deleted from the story. I'd say too many people have the opposite problem of expecting too little these days justifying it saying its too costly to put the Answer or Female MC into the game when they literally adding new less important content into the game like persona 5 skins, theurgy attack animations, fully voiced social links, new opening animation, remixed soundtrack(good additions by themselves but no replacement for what was sacrificed) instead of the actual ending. Most of the Answer was reused assets anyway except for a few animations there ain't much excuse for why it couldn't fit into the game unless its just another opportunity to sell the game again.

2:30 I've been pretty late to the Persona train, but have now pretty thoroughly experienced the games in retrospect, so I'd like to quickly give my perspective on that. tl;dr - My take is that the story does not need to change. The characters don't necessarily need to change, but they need to do more to show their character, because I feel like so much is missing or exclusive to alternative side-bits of media like the P3 movie. The gameplay *absolutely* needs to change somewhat. I feel like Persona 3 actually needed a remake more than most games that get remade these days. I see it as a near-perfect concept, but with a myriad of flaws in execution which leave me preferring Persona 4, even though I see Persona 3's potential to be quite frankly one of the greatest stories in existence. That being said, I'd like to give some context on why I think this, and what my experience has been with Persona. - Like a lot of people, I never checked it out until Joker got into Smash. I watched a Playthrough of Persona 5 and it blew me away. Eventually I got around to giving Persona 4 a chance too, and that was something special. Persona 4 has always been my favourite and is still one of the few games that has ever made me cry, so it probably doesn't shock you to hear I consider it one of the best stories I've ever experienced in any sort of media. Of course, eventually I got around to Persona 3 as well, but at this time I had only watched the games not played them. A year passes, and I feel like revisiting the games, so I decide now's the time to finally actually sit down and play them myself. I absolutely loved playing Persona 4 on Steam. It's still one of my most played games on there and I've been playing it so much I'm on the cusp of 100%ing the game on the hardest difficulty without any guides I'm happy to say. I also plan to get all the achievements, and am already pretty close. I haven't got around to playing P5 yet, so instead I look to giving P3 a shot... Only the Portable re-release drops and it's awful - and I wasn't gonna taint my experience of the game with that trash. So I decided that was the push I needed to play FES on emulator instead, but since I was already going to be playing it on emulator anyway, I also played using a large portion of community-made Quality of Life mods. Widescreen, better graphics, smoother controls, improved UI and animations, fixes to some annoying quirks of Persona 3 like clocks not healing you before a boss in The Answer, and a myriad of miscellaneous little annoyances patched out. So while I have seen a playthrough of the original P3FES, my only experience playing it is on this modded improved version on emulator. Ok, so with all that said, I gotta say - Persona 3 _does_ feel like it is *desperately* gasping for a tune-up to me. Not because of the PS2 graphics, though playing with 2K resolution was nice. Not because of the 4:3 aspect ratio, though I was glad to be able to play in widescreen. It's more down to gameplay differences. The only problem I'd chalk up to being a PS2 game that I felt really needed fixing was that the camera felt awful to control to me without the smooth camera control mod, and I know that sounds nitpicky, but when you have to deal with it at all points in the game the frustration adds up. The other problems are mostly just symptoms of P3 being the first Neo-Persona game. No Social Links for half the main cast was a huge blow to my investment in the plot to start - in fact, while Persona 3 grew on me to the point I now would rank it above P5, at the time I first watched it I actually was a little bit underwhelmed. I kept thinking "this should make me feel something, but I don't care about any of these characters except Junpei really, so I don't feel anything". I blame that on the lack of Social Links, even the girls who did get Social Links I feel got shallow Social Links that feel like they don't elaborate much on their characters. I've come to love the majority of the P3 cast *now* in retrospect knowing so much more about them, but a lot of what got me to care about them was stuff I never saw in my initial watch through of the game, or came from other media around P3 instead of the actual original game. On a similar note, I want to make it clear that I'm not saying the P3's story is worse off for being surreal and out-there specifically - I think that's cool, but I feel even for a very surreal and out there story there are moments for a first-timer where the story seems borderline incoherent. Sometimes you could only understand what's being said if you knew to pause the game and check the dictionary to explain the lore (which, iirc, the game never even tells you this exists), or in some cases you even are missing context on the story that only exists in other external media. The combat also, while I appreciated the slightly higher difficulty, I found kinda tedious most of the time honestly - especially because... well... y'know just Tartarus in general. Persona Skill Inheritance being fully random made me sit down for minutes on end loading savestates over and over and over again. Just generally I also feel like while all Persona games tend to be light on gameplay early on, Persona 3 felt like its gameplay was near non-existent until the last third of the game. That last third was really good, but even in Persona 4 for its long intro and tutorial - you don't have to wait until October for things to start getting fun in that game. I still enjoyed the game as a whole, but I feel like I spent half my time playing using the Emulator's speed up to get through recycled cutscenes and grindy Tartarus fights at quadruple speed - so I'm genuinely left feeling like I probably would not have liked the game if I was forced to play the original with all its issues without the use of any fast forward. I mean, I just said I kept loading savestates just to get the right skills inherited on my Personas too - I couldn't imagine the hours that would have taken if I was forced to quit and reload saves instead. I'm actually super excited for Reload just because I truly do think Persona 3 by all means should have been the gem of the Persona Series, but while I know a lotta OG fans think it already is... I'm not going to lie... Persona 3 the game, I think is pretty severely dragged down by a mountain of little shortcomings, most of which being just understandable mistakes for their first crack at the Neo-Persona formula. Even before P3R's announcement I always though, if they just could have had another shot at making it now with the experience and technology they have today - it could be so much better! Now will it be? idk, I hope, but I won't say I'm already sold. These new mini-social links with S.E.E.S. have to be written well, and not just present the flanderised versions of the characters we sometimes tend to see in the spinoffs. I hope they also don't make the game too easy. That being said, if they can pull those off, I think they have a really good shot at it.

Maybe not using the special theurgy moves then? Not to mention some fusion spells are super overpowered so in this way it’s them kinda balancing it so you can’t use them as frequently to abuse them. If you don’t like that it messes with the difficulty i guess just try not to use it as much. As for anything else I mean it’s expected that they make everything similar to p5r since so many people loved that game, it may be easy per say but Baton pass already got nerfed to have no buff when using it and the dorm events only seem to be tied to the theurgy attacks and sp/stat buffs from the pictures and descriptions so its similar to p4 and p5 in that way. Even so the social link granted traits are also a given because so many people liked them even though they were overpowered and if they exclude those things many people who don’t care about the balance will be mad since they just wanna have fun. I’m not to worried about balance I just wanna have fun with my favorite game.

Ive always hated the idea of "just don't use it", especially because the idea that p3r is coming after smt5, p5r, and sh2 which had similar mechanics. So you would expect the devs to learn from mistakes and feedback and not just "do the same thing" without going back to the drawing board to see why its polarizing aka just polish it.

The very hardcore fan base are the ones who find issues with these things while others just enjoy the game with no real issues. Atlus is always gonna pay attention to the majority cause it’s what makes them money, their a business, they’ll make compromises like with baton bass not buffing anymore and changes to enemies to make them more imposing but their not gonna exclude features the majority of players like so us older fans who like challenges have to deal with that. The best you can do is make it harder for yourself since Atlus doesn’t care to change things because they’ll get a lot of push back for taking out features a majority of people like that older fans who are in the minority will find issue with. They can’t please everyone and the ones who don’t get a lot of the support is us older fans.

Saying "don't use it" is not valid. Like when Sonic 4 came out people were mad that they added the air dash, something introduced in Sonic Adventure, making it very much not like any of the classic Sonic games. People defending that game said "just don't air dash" like that was even an option. The difficulty and level design was built around the air dash being in that game. The scaling and difficulty is likely tied to the special moves in P3R meaning "don't use it" is not really a valid rebuttal.

I’ve only placed a bit of portable. But for me I had 3 major thing I think reload should fix or rework. 1. rework some of the social links since 3 has the biggest difference in quality from my understanding. Second made more update the Tartarus and battle mechanics . Finally flesh out Strega more. I agree most of ur worries in terms of this remake. Especially the balancing. I initially played p5 vanilla and then bought p5R later. Man is royal very easy. I got stuck in vanilla at the last dungeon since a lot of the shadows didn’t have weakness but Royal I didn’t have much trouble even with maruki’s final fight. So ya they need to make sure the game is balance since there adding a lot of game mechanics.

I think a lot of the gameplay and graphics improvements in Persona 3 Reload are looking really great. The only thing that is kind of a shame is no The Answer or Female protagonist. Either way though, no matter what version of Persona 3 it's a great game! I grew up playing Persona 3 and it was one of the earlier SMT games I played!

My main concern about Reload is that I can see Atlus either releasing the Answer, maybe even even FeMC, as an expansion or releasing an actual definitive edition despite claiming they couldn’t add them in the first place. I also see them making Telos a paid dlc because of what they did with Raoul for Joker. Call me pessimistic but I wouldn’t put it pass Atlus to pull such grimy and greedy moves EDIT: Regarding your comments on having an ultimate version, I totally disagree. You said it yourself that there’s already multiple versions that exist but each require different ways to play so it’s not unreasonable for fans to expect a remake to have everything in one. Not to mention Reload not offering anything new besides graphics and some P5 qol changes (as far as we know currently) is not really that appealing to many, especially if you still have to play the previous versions to get the full P3 experience. To put that into perspective, Reload in Canada is $90 and then to play the Answer without emulating, I need to buy FES and a PS2 (maybe PS3 not sure). For FeMC, I would need P3P and then a PSP/Vita but thankfully Atlus ported it for the current gen without announcing Reload first to bait people into buying them smh. Not everyone can just buy all those things and not everyone wanna emulate so to say it’s unreasonable to expect everything to be included into a $90 remake of a decade year old game is a bad take imo. Also saying the Answer was bad so why do we want it anyway is such a trash ass take. It’s obvious that what people want is an improved version, not just a copy and paste

I know people want to believe its going to be a remake but atlus NEVER JUST remakes something. Not a single persona game after 3 was remade without story changes. To be fair, you do know why the Protagonist isn't using multiple weapon types any more, that was merely a crutch meant to compliment the AI tactical commands to make bosses more managable. Given how these protagonists have been properly defined I can see why they would not allow Makoto access to multiple weapons, if the other protagonists can't do it, he shouldn't be able to either. I do agree that I don't want Royal's accessibility to completely nerf this game but it does seem like they're making an effort to tone back Royal's overpowered mechanics to offer a challenge though of course the proof will be in the end product. I'm usually very cynical of yours mostly due to your bias towards P4 which I should note did the exact same thing to Portable that P5 has to Reload. However, this is a good video and I think seeing it as a companion to prior rather than a replacement is a smart way of approaching this game. I could had understood if Reload had every P3 version exclusives for 89CAD but just the Journey with "new contents" really grind my gears... I've generally felt that remaking P3 is challenging in large part because it spoke so much to the moment in which it was made. it feels very much a product of the mid-oughts aesthetically and politically. While I think it's a great game I don't know if we needed it twice.

You have concerns about difficulty, but I don't remember ever struggling on any fight my first time playing P3, and I was on hard. I just remember Nyx taking an eternity to kill, but that was just a battle of attrition. I'm looking forward to the day we get some shin megami tensei difficulty in Persona. But it's not the series for it, especially not now. I'd love to see an average persona fan go through digital devil saga 2 on hard, and just get wiped to rng. I know it's blasphemy, but i think P3 definitely needed a remake. P3P is the most readily available, otherwise it's not readily accessible. And P3P has many elements that haven't aged well at all, and many things will be a huge turn off to a lot of people. Presentation is already a mixed bag, and the point & click overworld stuff sucks. Outside of that, going back to the PS2 version isn't an instant fix either, as we all know what's missing from that compared to P3P. I also find it funny you're preemptively complaining about difficulty, especially when the original wasn't hard to begin with. It'll likely have difficulty levels, and if that doesn't do it for you, find a more challenging RPG (like any SMT). Lastly, of course it's going to take elements from P5... all Persona games take newer additions from the previous entries & expand upon them. They're still keeping much of what is unique to P3, while updating it with things Atlus has learned from P4/P4G, and P5/P5R. Lastly, knowing Atlus, it's almost a given we'll get the additional content from P3P/FES in some form of DLC, expansion pass or P3R GoldenRoyal edition, especially if P6 is far off. It's an easy way to milk more money, while also giving yourself more time to work on P6.

I mean thinking about theurgia you need to charge it up so it won't always be available to the player I see it as lowering the grinding capabilities of the game as it shortcuts grinding by speeding up battles. Different characters also charge up in different ways so that may encourage exploration in different combat features like maybe mitsuru builds it by using marin karin with follow up attacks. As a Persona 5 player i threw out all status spells as I felt they wasted a turn that could be damage. If theurgia is what I think it is then it will incentivize the player to experiment outside their typical strategies. For FEMC i can totally see a dlc possibility for the game

Also second comment, I've heard a lot of this "Persona 5 is baby easy" before, but I can't be the only one who thought P3 was INSANELY easy can I? Like you could have a 100 strength Persona by mid game and be just smashing your way through the toughest enemies without even using "Once More". I first played P4G and it was the "hardest" for me, but I think that's because it was my first Persona game so I was adjusting and learning, which honestly these games give you plenty of time to do, so by the time I was in P5R (the last one I played) I was able to carve through enemies like butter, but perhaps even less so than P3FES, which I'd played a few months earlier.

I agree persona 3 was easiest because they had to account for the ai making bad decisions. The Answer and Elizabeth secret boss was the true hard part of the persona 3 which was definitely harder than anything in persona 5 even. Persona 5 had a lot more mechanics that made it easy without farming or anything since you could ambush most encounters guaranteed even high lvl enemies. Automatic enemy down with the gun technique and baton pass which allowed you to one round enemies since your attack power increased as well with each pass.

I'm honestly stoked about the game. I also look forward to what they do to distinguish characters of similar elements to each other. Adding dark and light magic skills is a step in the right direction to distinguish Ken and Koromaru from Akihiko and Junpei, but I'd like to see what else they can do. One thing I don't want to see is how more recent persona titles add in anime tropes for the sake of it. I remember a beach scene in the baseline game, but I can totally see a forced sauna scene, which is eye rolling

I feel like a lot of the arguments come towards "I don't want it to be easier", though I'll be honest, trying to play p3 fes for the past month and a half, the grinding required for that game is unbearable. I just don't believe in the "it's more satisfying to use commands, and have the perfect party". I think it finally hit me fighting the reaper and Nyx, having the roll my eyes going back and forth between "wait", relent, and "full assault" every other turn for an hour, it's just annoying. Like God forbid Junpei died for the fifth time attacking Nyx with a shield up because I didn't take it off "act freely" or "full assault" since he comes AFTER her in the turn lineup. A boss being hard should not be in the game mechanics built in. While P5R is admittedly a LOT easier than the original, if nothing else I find it a bit more relaxing. I can't say that about P3 when once you get to the last 3/4ths of the game every enemy seems to have and spam instant kill moves, which is the cheapest way to do nothing more than sully an experience, and I hardly hear anyone ever mention that-. The amount of times I spent grinding to be at a reasonable level to continue the story to have 20+ minutes invalidated because an attack missed 1 enemy that then happened to land an insta kill makes me want to put the game down for the day. But no I guess then it's my fault for not stocking up on homunculi right? Can't be the game's fault there for poor balancing. If it wasn't for the story of P3 I would not have ever bothered continuing with fes. If the combat becomes easier so be it frankly. I'd rather it feel more skillful and less sacky and grindy, because with how bad Tartarus can be balanced I don't think I'd ever replay the original, and I can't say that about P5 that I've put 600 hours in between original and royal, while I'm almost at 100 in p3 and just want to be done. I just don't want people looking at p3 through rose tinted glasses like it had no problems to begin with because it absolutely did, and that's not even getting into how anti-completionist reverse social links make the game.

I disagree with the notion that something's wrong with the FF VII Remake. The remake makes FFVII actually playable again. I started a run of the original PS release a few years back and I had to put the game down once I was done with Gold Saucer. Combat is horribly imbalanced and the story is one hell of a mess narrative wise. The bad English translation certainly doesn't help. Persona 3 Portable was my first Persona game and I'm looking forward to the remake. I'm all for remakes shaking things up, otherwise I might as well play the original or a remaster.

Probably because it only 2 songs most people have taken issue with so far that being "mass destruction" which "its going down now" more then makes up for and "moons reaching out stars" which its counterpart "color your night" has become a new fan favorite. The others have been generally pretty well received by the vast majority like changing seasons reload, want to be close reload, joy reload, afternoon break reload, some of the samples like basement and the eerie feeling track, master of Tartarus\shadows, deep breath deep breath reload, burn my dread final battle reload, and the deep mentality one from Mitsuru's trailer. Most of these have been really liked by a lot of people so is it worth mentioning the whole OST? No, but its more so mentioning just those two songs since they seem to be the biggest attributors to dislike since to some they seem inferior. And so far you are right that there has been no OST toggle switch for the music and me personally I'm not banking on it even though I'm enjoying a vast majority of the new tracks except mass destruction because it feels softer but I don't hate it nor Moons reaching because its just different and if I deject my bias for the og ost its still a good song but it doesn't come anywhere close to the og.

Its super scummy that they released p3p before this without letting people know that a remake was right around the corner, as new and old players would obviously buy that version since the idea of a remake was a pipe dream at that point and even when we saw leaked footage of the remake people didnt believe it because atlus had re-released portable by that time. The biggest problem with the original persona 3 and fes is the lack of full team control, they are the only two turn based JRPGs ive played that dont let me control my entire team, and the whole lazy and dumb excuse of it being more realistic is just idiotic, its just a cope because they prefer the 3d exploration, other than the 3d environments persona 3 portable is the superior game imo

It's interesting how you need to judge the remake against its source material. P3 is one of my favorite games ever, so Reload very high expectations to live up to. As a result, even minute changes will vastly change my perception on how it holds up to the original. For as many improvements they can add to the graphics, quality of life, and story, they can shaft things that made the game so charming to begin with. I hold out hope that this will be an amazing new way to experience P3, but I feel as though I've always had a worry that Reload will be somewhat disappointing to a fan like me, who is returning to P3 (I am confident it will be a good experience for the new players, though)

I’m not really worried about this game, like, at all. At their very least, I’m quite certain the story will remain intact. No, they aren’t going to change the ending. They’re not stupid, they know what they’re doing. Given the fact they were hesitant about even giving the cast some new outfits, I think it’s safe to say the story will be untouched. Script will probably be more in line with the Japanese one but other than that it’ll probably be about the same as FES’ The Journey.
