I was born in 1955 & I can tell you without hesitation that the 60s was a scary time for food. No idea why pimentos were a thing but they were. This video was hilarious 😂.

This was so fun! My Grandma, who is in her 80’s, said she wanted to have a Christmas feast like the ones she remembers from her younger days this year. So I just got done making two “salads” in some fancy jello molds.

Oh my goodness! I remember those. You want to because it was the THING to do. My Mom did them and changef ingredients to suit family. All the lafies in neighbor hood were making them.😊

Small world...Sage Lileyman (sp?) made the exact cake on the cover of that exact same cook book in her video that came out today! Totally different vibe than you recipe lol, but both videos were wonderfully entertaining. Always love watching you make these old recipes and hearing your whole family's reactions. 😊

While it doesn't look amazing, everything that goes into it makes sense together, which seems pretty rare for the jello recipes of that era. It sounds like a fun throwback recipe, and I'm pretty tempted to make it. Glad you shared it with us!

My Mom was always so proud of her fancy gelatin creations. “Party Aspics”. She really couldn’t understand why we never took to tomato aspic with fish. That being said I do love a nice jello parfait!
@WithLoveKristina11 ай бұрын
Jello parfaits are good! And to be honest, I'm just relieved THIS wasn't a flavored Jello with fish, those are horrible lol
@lisajoyce68036 ай бұрын
Those are horrible my grandma would get like that celery flavor jello and shred carrots and celery and 😂then put olive halves and tuna and mayo mixed in with it I would eat candy or whatever I would find in the cupboard usually peanut butter before she would bring it out to serve. The dogs and cats turned their noses up at it too

Was the whole gelatine thing new thing then? Looks like a lot of stuff was suspended in gelatine and required shapely vessels and precarious unmoulding. The recipe had me laughing and cringing throughout, your husbands reaction was the mirror image of what I went through just watching this, he is the true MVP.

I guess I'm super weird (and very historically accurate with my hair which is fairly 60s today), when I say I actually thought this looked and sounded delicious right away? I love all forms of cheese, I love tomato soup, I like seafood ok, celery and onion make everything better, and cucumber is great. Only thing I've never had is the pimentos, but I think they'd probably be ok too. Thanks for sharing this neat recipe! And your baby and hubby taste testing for you was adorable.

Hilarious! I bet you could find a Maryland Style Crab Soup to use in place of the Campbell's to elevate the aspic just a touch. It'd probably be pretty good.

You're so cute! I admit I was kind of gagging while you were putting that thing together and was surprised when you actually thought it was good. But I was happy to see you have the strawberry pot I had when I was first married in 1980. If I recall correctly--and I might not--those strawberry pots & pans were grocery store premiums, with a different one available each week or month if you spent so much. Back then I think it was $40 a week, or something similar, maybe even less. Love your channel!

We were required to take cooking classes in the 60s in junior high school and we had to make a salad using clear gelatin in a mold. I could not bring myself to even taste it, and those who did hated it.. But it was pretty… all that greenery tomatoes and veggies suspended in clear gelatin. That is the closest I have ever had to what you made but I’m pretty pleased you liked it.
