Gridlessness is hands down my favorite KZbin channel. I love the Saturday mornings when I fire up my computer and see that a new Gridlessness video is in my KZbin feed. You're right. They are very talented people. Without a doubt each member of that family is a quick study natural. Jeff and Rose have spent so much quality time with their children and it shows. All five of those girls are very special. The entire family is very special. They hunt, fish, work on cars, they off-road mud-bog in their 4x4's, they woodwork, metalwork, leatherwork, prospect for gold, build buildings, raise horses, goats, chickens, pigs, dogs, grow their own food, they not only play Ice hockey, but they built their own ice hockey rink on the property. Sarah and Abagail built their own tiny house. I know I'm leaving stuff out. They have all developed so many skills it can be hard to remember all the different things that they know how to do well. Jeff seems to be relentlessly thinking of new and more challenging projects for the family to work on or work towards. Jeff is an electrical engineer so naturally he's passing those skills along to his daughters. These girls have math skills that are (to say the least) very impressive. Jeff and Rose have said that this life they chose to live is not just about raising their children... but Jeff and Rose endeavor to raise five very special, unique, and exceptional human beings. I have been watching Jeff and Rose do this for quite some time now. From the outside looking in I can tell you that Jeff and Rose have definitely attained their loftiest goal already. Now if I were 18 again I would definitely be trying to figure out a way to meet my favorite Birkenshaw sister in hopes of possibly marrying her. But alas in this world that goal is truly unattainable. Besides... My favorite Birkenshaw sister changes all the time. So it's definitely for the best that I'm far too old for them. Anyway... All impossible dreams aside. If you haven't figure it out already... I really do L0VE the Birkenshaw family quite a lot. I suggest that everybody watch their channel and in turn do the best that they can do to emulate these good people. The more good people that can figure out a way to live their lives like The Birkenshaw family lives their lives... the faster the world will naturally become a much better place for all of us to live. Thanks to the Birkenshaw family... you have my subscription friend. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I P.S. I'm sure that after awhile one or more of the Birkenshaw sisters will decide to get serious about goldsmithing. It will be one more gift added to a seemingly endless and impressive repertoire of Birkenshaw skills, aptitude's, and special accomplishments. Have a Happy New Year!

Another option is fusing the ring closed. It's a finicky process, but the gold remains unadulterated. And to make 24k shiny, burnishing is a great option.

I am a gridlessness follower and had seen the video they made of the rings for the girls -- WOW -- it's amazing the amount of time, concentration and effort that goes into making metal rings. I make rings out of colorful acrylic, and did have a large ring made out of white gold 40 years ago with a Peruvian Turquoise and it weighs 30 grams. It's very comfortable to wear. The one you made in this video was beautiful as well as creative to make -- thanks from NH -- Happy New Year.

Beautiful work! This year, as part of my entrance into silversmithing as a new career, I decided to refine my own gold from scratch and make my own 24k gold ring. It is so validating and refreshing to see the same challenges and solutions I had with mine come up for you, and also to see you cherish every single milligram of gold by trying to retain as much weight as possible, just as I did. Cheers!
@GOLD_FEVER
@GOLD_FEVER Жыл бұрын
How did you do it? I have about two ounces and i would like to purify it to 22 k or so and make a ring so i can put it on my chain... But really difficult to do so without alot of expensive tools!
@oxoniumgirl
@oxoniumgirl Жыл бұрын
@@GOLD_FEVER I worked as a lab technician in an inorganic chemistry lab years ago so the chemistry is second nature to me. I inquarted the crude gold with fine silver until purity was less than 6k then dissolved all but the mostly pure gold in hot nitric acid, then dissolved the gold in aqua regia and precipitated it with sodium dithionite, and melted it into a bar in a crucible with a HHO torch. It does take proper lab equipment to refine gold safely - a reflux setup and fume hood are mandatory.

@Modern Goldsmith Do you think that you could've welded the ring together with the ring shrinking tool by heating the ring before compressing it? Similar to friction welding, because compression increases heat. The addition of heat should make the shrinking process easier as well. Just an idea I had while watching.

The ring bending pliers are actually called Bow bending pliers according to my experience . Fine gold is hard to polish , so is platinum . The way is to use emery sticks or sheets 400 finer until about 1200 . Then polish or satin finish has good merit as well . Retied jeweler .

I’m curious, is it actually 24k like 1000/1000 AU? I’ve watched all the videos and I’m confused, I thought the coin was about 18k, and native nuggets are only about 22k. So is it 24k, or just as much of their own gold as possible, maybe somewhere around 20k? I’m just curious because it’s been so confusing.
