I visited Japan this February and I was struck by how healthy and sturdy the papillon dogs I saw there were. I have a rescue papillon and know a few others. In America they are so tall and have such tiny legs...so many back issues....so easy to get injured.

I had a pug schnauzer and some other pug mix when I was a kid. My mom liked them. I just remember the huffing and grunting and panting in the summer, when we went on walks, or when they tried to run. I remember my mom telling me to be careful when we swam in the river because if he got any water up his nose, he could die. What a sad life for a dog. All of my dogs now, as an adult, are rescues. Two of them huskies and one is a mutt. All of them are healthy as can be. Unfortunately I do have to watch for cancer in the huskies because it’s common.

I used a styrofoam shipping box as a shrimp tank. It was really fun until a few months later when it started to leak, not pouring out but more like sweating on the bottom of the styrofoam. I now use a plastic storage box.

I will never understand why people pay $5000 for a frenchie or bulldog. You're buying health issues & years of high vet bills. Also hearing your dog struggle to breathe every second of the day. Goes for any breed bred for its looks. I trained dogs for a while the amount of times they bot the dog "because it's cute" like a goldendoodle or the opposite "Because they are bad ass and scary" like a xl bully it's so infuriating. I totally understand I have a type of dog I like as well. But you should be buying dogs based on their past and previous jobs not how they look. Buying a dog just because you like the way it looks is so common. Leads to poor breeding and poor decisions making which is 80% at least of the industry it seems Ok rant over

Styrofoam is so porous that water does seep through it, so a base to collect that is really important if anyone is going to do this. I tried repurpossing one of these to hold water for plant watering and after sitting a few days it drained out.

Great video! I totally feel the bulldog thing... what a mutated mess! I've lived with and trained both primitive dog breeds (northern dogs, Siberian huskies and crosses, rescues) and mustangs. Oh, and cats. All of these are closer to the wild type ancestors, and haven't been mutated by artificial human standards. Ma Nature loves diversity.

I think they mean as an inert filler in addition to the dirt. Like, how vermiculite, pummice, and other non- organics can add structure to the soil and make sure it holds enough air inside. Idk about styrofoam tho. I know it would probably not be great as a drainage layer since it floats, and i don’t know how I feel about a bunch of tiny pieces of plastic dispersed in my plants soil. I see where they were going with the idea tho, its not insane or cruel on the surface, but idk what kinda long term effects it would have on the plants’ health.

In addition, I mainly garden with non-organics: (vermiculite in place of soil for example), and have now started taking to a mix of that, orchid mix, and spaghum moss as my plant medium instead of soil, as I live in an apartment and most of my plants except like one or two are either arboreal, succulents, or thrive hydroponically. The others get their original soil in addition to my mix, and I use orchid fertilizer on everyone as needed. (I like to be able to control applications so I only give it when they’re in good health and I’m not gonna risk shocking or burning roots). I have some mychorizai (spelling?) powder I’m wanting to start a benificial bioactive relationship with most of them with next year and see how that works in place of fert. But my point is, many plants can thrive in soil-less mediums, and actually do better that way. You just have to know your plant and its needs. Also styrofoam-only definitely wouldn’t work so I’m not advocating for that, just adding some nuance to the “its not like they need dirt” comment.

@pyro-millie5533 I have no problem with non dirt media. I just don't like the idea that plants are just decorations, so you don't actually have to take care of them. Filling with Styrofoam clearly shows you don't care about the plant itself, just how it looks. Also, the plant is probably too small for the pot if you need filler. They need room to grow into, but too much will create anaerobic soil at the bottom.

I had a fish that was so sweet and loveable... you know the kind. Long story short, I decided to take it to bed and cuddle it all night long. I'm told a dog or a cat would be a better choice if I want to cuddle with something. I got a cat, and when I was done cuddling it, I dropped it in the fish tank and closed the lid tightly. it usually depends on the styrofoam, the thicker and heavier duty the better in the case of keeping water in, and styrofoam takes decades if not centuries to degrade

I've seen people line storage bins with Styrofoam boxes to make winter shelters for feral cats. And yeah, I'm not a fan of the "breed standard" of a lot of dogs. It's just sad what humans have done in the name of aesthetics. Adopt, don't shop. There are a lot of purebred dogs in shelters or people trying to re-home dogs they realized they can't take care of. I was shocked at the purebred huskies and German shepherds up for adoption when we adopted a puppy (pit mix) several years ago. Long-winded way of saying that even if your heart is set on a specific breed, it's worth checking shelters and rescues.

nope you don't need to, and there's rly no good way of replacing substrate. It takes a long long time to truly run out of nutrients, but when they do, you can start using root tabs.

This was such a nice and refreshing video, THANK YOU! I'm pretty new to the hobby (started in July this year) so I was kinda confused about how common and normal fish inbreeding is. It honestly freaks me out how people think this is okay. Sad thing is, everything around humans (including us) is very inbred. Reading about breeding betta fish actually helped me understand better how people simply want certain looks or qualities so they only breed individuals with genes that provide those - which are usually closely related. Makes it a whole lot easier for people to play gods. Unfortunately, this is not sustainable and we are only beginning to learn about how detrimental it can be as opposed to nature which has developed solutions millions of years ago. It's like people are children in a phase of pretending they're adults, playing and destroying their playground. Hoping you post more vids like these, where you show what you're up to with your fish. You're probably my favorite influencer in the hobby, dude!

Hello I need a little advice from you or anyone professional in the comments So I'm new to this hobby and got my first ever tank on Tuesday (24/10/23) and added 5 goldfishes to it. We didn't cycle the tank because we knew nothing about it and the local pet shop owner added the fish to the tank on the same day we got the tank. Since that day two of my fishes have already died; one from swim bladder disease and the second from I don't know what. One of the three fishes (named "Goldie") looks in a very bad condition and it is sideways floating in the tank but is breathing. My tank is all cloudy and that might be because it is not cycled. Also I only have artificial plants (pls don't be mad) and I want to get live plants for a better environment for the fish. ( In the middle of typing this i went to check the tank and found Goldie 'dead' RIP love ) So now that I have only 2 fishes left 😢, do i cycle the tank with the goldfish or do i return the 2 goldfishes to the shop and cycle the tank for a week and then bring back the goldfishes Pls give your advice 🙏🙏
