Hiya! Was wondering if you'd see this pop up. Had a seriously busy year, a lot of additions to life (New baby, dog, change of vehicles and took on a lot more jobs). So all been a bit frantic and I'd been letting KZbin slide til I got my head above water. Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully start putting out a few videos again. That job is a beautiful spot, and hoping after a few cuts we can get things looking sharp.

@@moweroutdoors wow what a year you have had and congratulations on the new baby 🎉. Sounds like you really have been busy so totally understandable that you haven’t posted much. Thank you for sharing your work it really is a pleasure to see and is very therapeutic (for us anyway lol). Sending best wishes to you and your family 🥰

That is a fantastic job, it’s a lot of work, if I do a hedge anything like as big as that I always take someone with me to pick up the cuttings, the thought of 4 hours work picking cuttings up after cutting that hedge would do my head in, well done man , respect

Impressive cut mate, clearing up is always the nightmare I find!
@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
Yeah, I've tried a few things but its hard to beat a rake and a wheelbarrow (Or motorised wheelbarrow in this case!). I use a shredder too sometimes, shred it in place. The main problem is its at the end of the day and you're busted by that stage!

Good job. I do this every year. I have a wheeled scaffold but built a box to stand on that fits inside my tractor to use as a raised platform. But now considering buying a sickle bar attachment for my mini excavator. I have about 1,500' and turned 74 this year. I hear they have a new variety of Leyland that stops growing at 7'. But hard to find.
@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
74...sure you're only coming into your prime. I've seen a few videos of finger bar hedge trimmers on mini excavators. Some look fantastic, others look quite difficult to control. I've heard folks saying that with a flail head on a mini, there's not enough hydraulic flow to spin the flail and also be able to track. The sickle bar style would presumably need less flow, but if you could test one on the machine before buying it'd be ideal. Would certainly save alot of hard graft if you got it. That's a lot to maintain!

Enjoy! They're a good job. The foam handles slide about and are a bit annoying, but they definitely make lifting the last few bits alot easier.

Great job , I did a big reduction last year only the top down to 5 metres , 20ft wide in some area's priced it per day , was the only way I thought not to get caught out , there son in law wanted a price for the job .
@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
Its so hard to know with hedges, as if its all light and spindly, you can get on well. But you can get up top and its as thick and dense and its chainsaw work. This hedge narrows in both ends, and of course I'd only looked at the ends of it to see what width it was. I though it was about 6ft wide but it was nearer twice that. Hard to get it right, and lots of guys saying the only way to make money is to put price jobs...I'm busy thinking the only way not to loose money is not to price jobs!!
@BigRed-dr6weАй бұрын
@23:53 That whole hedge needs treating for Conifer Mite/Cypress Aphid in case they are the cause of the die back. It could also be fungal: Pestalotiopsis. A fungus that causes brown patches on foliage, and can lead to severe dieback. It's more likely to be a problem in wet summers. Botryosphaeria (Bot) canker. A canker dieback caused by the fungus Botryosphaeria dothidea. Leylandii that are stressed by environmental factors like drought, heat, or freezing are more susceptible to this disease. Seiridium canker. A disease that causes branch dieback, and is most commonly found on large trees.

@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
Don't really like giving out price info online, as it rarely helps. But I try to work for a fair hourly rate and tot the hours up. So about the same price as a labourer would get on a building site for the same hours.

I’d recommend taking the rubber grips off the feet so that the metal can grip on the grass
@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
Good suggestion that actually. I'd left them on as they're a pain to get back on again, and I like them on for hard surfaces and (To be honest) it means the feet don't scratch the trailer. But when you're 14ft up you don't want a foot slipping on wet grass though, right enough. Must take them off if the grass is any way uneven. Thanks for that.

Nice job mate. You need a labourer if you have this kind of work.
@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
I've been wondering about that, but its hard to know what to do. Big step to take someone on and worry about making sure there's always enough work for 2 of us y'know. Be nice to have the company all the same.

Take a lad on a self employed basis, see how it goes. I did this 10 years ago, made a big difference. Your just going to knacker your self out on your own. The standard of that job you just showed us, you won't have any trouble finding more work for 2 men. Good luck mate Garry Solihull

That's a great job but I can never understand why people let their hedge grow so high and so wide I would never stand on a ladder to cut a hedge iv got 65 meters of Leyland hedge I cut the sides by hand and the top with 6 tonne digger and fingerbar hedge cutter hedge is 2m high 1m wide and I pick up cuttings with ride on mower used to be able to do it in 4 hours now it takes me three days I'm not as young as I used to be but you did a great job considering the size of the hedge 👍
@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
Its comments like yours that keep me up at night...wondering what I could do differently to really speed up the process. The annoying thing for me is that the next day I could be doing a tiny box hedge or a heap of rounded shrubs in a bed. So what is the perfect tool for one job is completely un-usable at the next. Its not feasible to have the perfect tool for every single hedge, so you have to just compromise with the best tools that can do everything (Ladders and trimmers). But I spend hours trying to work out if I'm missing something that could make life a whole lot easier. So comments like this I love, as they get me thinking. Appreciate you watching and getting in touch.

@moweroutdoorsАй бұрын
Thanks for watching and the suggestion of spraying. Don't really like giving out prices of jobs online, if you don't mind. Always be some folks thinking you're cheap and others calling you a rip-off...and only me that suffers!
