Like you said.. I noticed a lot of the things you were complaining about are nit picky.. You are a tall person so it is going to be different than most as far as head room etc. As far as 1/4 mile times, you're comparing a stock car to a tuned E85 car. your golf was on E and only ran .15 faster than the rs3. If you tuned the rs3 on E.. just stage 1 fully stock you'll run 11.2's .. Ask me how I know.. I have one. just an 8V.5.

I have a 2018 RS3 and respect what you are saying for sure. I am 5'9" so can't relate to alot of your problems with feeling cramped. I am not sure anything you do this car will make it more comfortable for you 😞 e85 golf R might have spoiled you 😀. Stage 1 E85 Uni on RS3 will put you at 592hp btw. I think once your break in period is over and you can get on it more (in cold weather preferably) you will enjoy it more. Modify the midpipes first thing, I think the 8Y seems to be much quieter than the 8V generation, and its not letting that 5 cylinder shine. and unfortunately I think that's really what it comes down to with the RS3, you paid a premium for that 5 cylinder engine. For me the noises and feeling from the engine really added excitement to my drive over my previous GTI. Almost any German car can get to similar power levels as stock RS3 with a tune, but the way the 5 cyl puts that power down with attitude is probably the reason I can't sell it. Hope you are able to find some joy in the ownership! But if its not the right car for you I am sure others will be happy to pick that car up close to what you paid for, and you can get the right car for you.

You’re still young my guy, you’ll bounce back from this. I’d probably hold onto the car for a little bit so the initial sting of depreciation settles and when you’re not so much under water on it, then trade it in and maybe get back into a Golf R or replace it with something with a little utility. I currently own an M2 and a Tesla MYP. M2 is the fun car, Tesla is the commuter, grocery hauler with a nice 0-60. Awesome combo with both cars imo.

The car is not broken in. My 2022 S3 is faster than my 2023 Golf R. My Golf has only 3K miles on it. S3 has 17K miles on it. I noticed that once S3 had 5K+ miles on it, it started pulling a lot harder. Your car only has a couple of hundred miles on it. Don't beat it up yet and start launching it. Just drive it normal/mellow for a couple of thousand miles and let the engine components loosen up. Regarding your overall feelings, you may be going through "buyer's remorse". It happens all the time. Only time can tell. RS3 is a bad-ass car and way better than Golf R (in my opinion). I own one (Golf R) and have driven the other (broken in RS3).

I got a 2024 S3 pre facelift and always thought the Golf R is supposed to be a little faster. At how many miles did you notice the change in performance? Mines still just under 1k miles but still feels restricted.
@TomShirazi
@TomShirazi 2 ай бұрын
@@drz8886I noticed a big change at 5K miles and a gradual change for the better to 10K miles. At 10K, 0 to 60 was well over half a second quicker. One other thing most people don't know, Audi's transmission is an intelligent transmission. At first it is in factory settings and feels sluggish to change gears. After a few thousand miles, it learns how you like to drive and feels like it reads your mind and will get you in the right gear as soon as you are thinking about it. I have almost 19k miles on my S3 and love driving it. Our S3 is definitely not slower than our Golf R. The only difference between the two (in driving) is I can hang out the back end of our Golf around corners, but that's something I have done couple of times since that really tears the tires. I have to admit, drifting in the Golf is very controlled and fun. It's not like a rear wheel drive car, but very controllable and precise. Both S3 and R have their advantages, but if I was to choose one, I would take S3 every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
@Amsfxyz
@Amsfxyz 5 ай бұрын
So the quarter mile difference with E85 tuned R is .15s and 1mph? And you could feel that? Plus you get to do this with a 5yr warranty? In a car that retains its value very well? With an amazing sounding 5 cylinder? And crazy tuning potential once the ECU is unlocked? Yes, you’re definitely screwed man 🤣 I’ve a 7.5 manual R and thinking about getting an 8Y RS3 or RS5 coupe. I’m also not 6’6 so shouldn’t be a problem. RS3 does look kinda bland and RS5 doesn’t drive as good as RS3 and is quieter, much heavier. RS5 coupe with the 5 cylinder would’ve been a no brainer.

Thanks for the candid video. I'll be honest, I found the decision to upgrade from the Golf R to the RS3 debatable because you already own an M2. Everybody is different, but I do need at least one car with hatchback practicality. Also, in general, going from a premium to an ultra-premium product is almost never worth the money. You would have probably felt the same disappointment if you had upgraded from an M240i to your M2. Nonetheless, I look forward what you make of the RS3 - I look forward to comparisons to your M2.
@JVette01
@JVette01 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to comment. However, the M240 to M2 is a big gap in performance for not that much more money. The Golf R vs RS3 is a 20k gap. M240i to M2 is like a 10k gap and even less if you option up the M240. It would make sense to just get an M2 from the get go.
@RevTiberius
@RevTiberius 6 ай бұрын
@@JVette01 I would agree that the price gap between the M240 and M2 is more reasonable than the jump between the Golf R and the RS3; the RS3 is also overpriced vis-a-vis the M2. I disagree on the M240i though. It's plenty of performance. The AWD version is actually quicker 0-60 than the current M2, and within street legal limits in general. Going from premium to top-of-the-line can be fun, but it's a privilege car makers charge a pretty penny for. IMHO it's mostly overkill. To be honest in my experience, even a GTI delivers 80%-90% of the fun of an M2, as different as the cars may be. Much of the difference is just brand prestige and make-believe. I'm not saying the higher-end cars aren't objectively better in some ways because of course they are. They are just rarely worth the upcharge.
@JVette01
@JVette01 6 ай бұрын
I understand your perspective. However, having owned a MK8 GTI and now my M2, they are nowhere even close to be compared to one another. It's not 80-90% of the M2 at all. Even the M240 vs M2 is on a whole another level when it comes to handling, speed, looks, the trans tuning, and the engine.

I have a Golf R and my friend has an RS3, in addition to the things you mentioned, some of the differences where I thought the Golf R was better were: Golf has a nicer steering wheel (flat bottom, heated, dimpled only at the grips so there is some visual/textural contrast). Golf has more settings for things and more customizations of the instrument cluster. The ambient lighting is nicer in the Golf (all of the light strips are tucked away instead of the very visible white strips in the RS3). Golf has ventilated seats but the RS3 seats are much nicer. Golf has room for a spare tire. I did like the seating position in the RS3 better, I felt a bit more connected to the car but I'm short so that may have something to do with it, the Golf seats don't really hold me in very well and it feels more like a small SUV.

A lot of valid complaints. Biggest reason to upgrade is the 5cyl sound, tuning overhead, port injection keeping the valves clean. The trans can hold more torque for longer, IROZ goodies, physical controls for climate and stuff. You seem to like low range torque which comes along with smaller turbo cars like the GTI. Common complaint amoung Golf R owners getting bigger turbos is the car feeling slower despite having more top end power. I think you also have a point about the RS3 being in break in period as well. Hopefully a tune is enough to change your mind but you sound really unhappy with it.

I really appreciate the honesty. The RS3 was originally one of my hitlist dream cars. But I went from a ‘21 GLI to a ‘22 GTI. In between that I shopped the ‘22 A3 Quattro. And yo. Even at 6’0” 275lbs the decrease in space going from a GLI to A3 was massive. So when an early ‘22 GTI arrived that I could sit in, I was very fearful. Yet I only lost a little bit of storage up front and slight leg room in the rear sets. It was like night and day from what I would have lost going to the A3. It made zero sense. Even after getting my GTI I simply can’t justify being happy going to an A3 series. I’d either just get an R or A5 series. Gut the GTI is SOOOO good. Especially after a tune. The ONLY drawback it could ever have is not being awd. But everything you said is what I felt going through my A3/GTI decision. Zero regrets.

@@JVette01 You know comparing the MK8 R stock to tuned was night and day. You don't think the same is to be said comparing a tuned R to a stock RS3? The tuned vehicle is going to perform better. Factory tuned vehicles typically leave a lot to be desired. And what do we end up saying after we do a simple stage 1 ECU tune? It should have come like this from the factory. Lol. Power comes on sooner, lasts longer throughout the RPM range, and in some places you're making significantly more power over the baseline (factory) tune. I love watching the videos and hearing your side of things, no doubt. Just for the sake of comparing, I wish we would focus on comparing certain vehicles to their actual counterparts. I just watched your other videos and was bracing myself for why you didn’t like it. Obviously considering the money you had to pay plus being so tall, I completely get it and don’t blame you. Also, the turbo lag is an acquired taste and makes gaining speed an issue if you aren’t in the right gear or rev range. Everything else seemed pretty subjective so beauty is in the eye of the beholder at that point and I hope you enjoy your time with it for now in spite of those issues. I’ve had my ‘24 RS3 for 3k miles and I’m completely in love. I only hate the fact that it doesn’t have remote start, no 360 camera, and it takes considerably longer for the revs to drop upon starting compared to my ‘21 Mazda 3 turbo. Used to sit in the Mazda ~30 seconds after starting, now closer to ~60 seconds in the RS3. Only other cars I considered were a M340i and KIA EV6 GT. Given on my preferences and price. @@JVette01 Missed out on a 2 month wait because I couldn’t drive or view a RS3 8Y.After 2 months finally got to drive a car,placed deposit and waited another 6 months for next shipment.Well worth the wait.Looked at Golf R Mk8 but capacitance controls on steering wheel,lack of manual buttons on dashboard for essentials and never been a fan of inline 4 cylinders even though I can appreciate the performance of the EA888 engine.

It happens to many of us. I once thought I wanted a JCW and kept it a whole 4 months and took a killing on it. While I do love the RS3 I think I’d prefer the 20 anniversary Golf R with manual over it.

I don't think i could mod a 70k car to possibly void the warranty, The new tesla model 3 performance presents a compelling case for 46k after the tax credit 10.7 at 126mph and 0 - 60 in 2.9. My buddy picked one up and it felt like an endless amount of torque and acceleration to the end of the quarter mile and in 96f weather. Almost feels like a sportbike in powerband.

I drove the a3 for a week as a rental and it’s a great car . I felt that it’s all the speed u need but I know when you want the fastest car in the world with everyday drivability this car can be that car for many. Stage 3 tune for the rs3 will kick ass . 😊

Everyone is confused. They’re so used to big turbo or build 8V (prior gen) RS3s they just automatic assume you just simply tune it and now you’re beating everyone… but u unfortunately you can’t even tune the new ones yet

Easiest way to loose money and get into debt is to keep on trading car for new ones. I did this for 5 years straight. While it was fun getting a new car every year. I spent so much money on Ceramic Coating and adding PPF on each vehicle. It seems like I was addicted of the new car smell and the feeling of getting a new car.

What's the leg room like with the pedals? I am 6'2 and hoping leg room wouldn't be an issue here?

At 6'2 you'll be fine. Leg room wasn't necessarily the issue, it was the head room, and the interior in general feels kinda close to you and slightly cramped.

@@JVette01 Yeah you know I am a long time Audi customer so am sort of used to the interior (similar design to my car actually) and I just saw the RS6 yesterday. Looks, well also very similar to your RS3 on the inside. That was a big car though. The 3 is a bit more of a rare bird around here though. I might have to see if the S3 is similar.

I ended up trading my Golf R for a 2024 Nissan Titan bronze edition and I have no regrets. I know it's a totally different vehicle. I got tired of hitting potholes and going over rough roads in my Golf, I felt like I was breaking my golf every time I hit a bump or pothole (I try to avoid them like the plague, but there are so many). Don't get me wrong, I loved the Golf R, but that Titan is fantastic!
