You are a tall person so it is going to be different than most as far as head room etc. As far as 1/4 mile times, you're comparing a stock car to a tuned E85 car. your golf was on E and only ran .15 faster than the rs3. If you tuned the rs3 on E.. just stage 1 fully stock you'll run 11.2's .. Ask me how I know.. I have one. just an 8V.5.

I have a 2018 RS3 and respect what you are saying for sure. I am 5'9" so can't relate to alot of your problems with feeling cramped. I am not sure anything you do this car will make it more comfortable for you 😞 e85 golf R might have spoiled you 😀. Stage 1 E85 Uni on RS3 will put you at 592hp btw. I think once your break in period is over and you can get on it more (in cold weather preferably) you will enjoy it more. Modify the midpipes first thing, I think the 8Y seems to be much quieter than the 8V generation, and its not letting that 5 cylinder shine. and unfortunately I think that's really what it comes down to with the RS3, you paid a premium for that 5 cylinder engine. For me the noises and feeling from the engine really added excitement to my drive over my previous GTI. Almost any German car can get to similar power levels as stock RS3 with a tune, but the way the 5 cyl puts that power down with attitude is probably the reason I can't sell it. Hope you are able to find some joy in the ownership! But if its not the right car for you I am sure others will be happy to pick that car up close to what you paid for, and you can get the right car for you.

The car is not broken in. My 2022 S3 is faster than my 2023 Golf R. My Golf has only 3K miles on it. S3 has 17K miles on it. I noticed that once S3 had 5K+ miles on it, it started pulling a lot harder. Your car only has a couple of hundred miles on it. Don't beat it up yet and start launching it. Just drive it normal/mellow for a couple of thousand miles and let the engine components loosen up. Regarding your overall feelings, you may be going through "buyer's remorse". It happens all the time. Only time can tell. RS3 is a bad-ass car and way better than Golf R (in my opinion). I own one (Golf R) and have driven the other (broken in RS3).

I got a 2024 S3 pre facelift and always thought the Golf R is supposed to be a little faster. At how many miles did you notice the change in performance? Mines still just under 1k miles but still feels restricted.
@TomShiraziАй бұрын
@@drz8886I noticed a big change at 5K miles and a gradual change for the better to 10K miles. At 10K, 0 to 60 was well over half a second quicker. One other thing most people don't know, Audi's transmission is an intelligent transmission. At first it is in factory settings and feels sluggish to change gears. After a few thousand miles, it learns how you like to drive and feels like it reads your mind and will get you in the right gear as soon as you are thinking about it. I have almost 19k miles on my S3 and love driving it. Our S3 is definitely not slower than our Golf R. The only difference between the two (in driving) is I can hang out the back end of our Golf around corners, but that's something I have done couple of times since that really tears the tires. I have to admit, drifting in the Golf is very controlled and fun. It's not like a rear wheel drive car, but very controllable and precise. Both S3 and R have their advantages, but if I was to choose one, I would take S3 every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Golf has more settings for things and more customizations of the instrument cluster. The ambient lighting is nicer in the Golf (all of the light strips are tucked away instead of the very visible white strips in the RS3). Golf has ventilated seats but the RS3 seats are much nicer. Golf has room for a spare tire. I did like the seating position in the RS3 better, I felt a bit more connected to the car but I'm short so that may have something to do with it, the Golf seats don't really hold me in very well and it feels more like a small SUV.

I really appreciate the honesty. The RS3 was originally one of my hitlist dream cars. But I went from a ‘21 GLI to a ‘22 GTI. In between that I shopped the ‘22 A3 Quattro. And yo. Even at 6’0” 275lbs the decrease in space going from a GLI to A3 was massive. So when an early ‘22 GTI arrived that I could sit in, I was very fearful. Yet I only lost a little bit of storage up front and slight leg room in the rear sets. It was like night and day from what I would have lost going to the A3. It made zero sense. Even after getting my GTI I simply can’t justify being happy going to an A3 series. I’d either just get an R or A5 series. Gut the GTI is SOOOO good. Especially after a tune. The ONLY drawback it could ever have is not being awd. But everything you said is what I felt going through my A3/GTI decision. Zero regrets.

Thanks for the candid video. I'll be honest, I found the decision to upgrade from the Golf R to the RS3 debatable because you already own an M2. Everybody is different, but I do need at least one car with hatchback practicality. Also, in general, going from a premium to an ultra-premium product is almost never worth the money. You would have probably felt the same disappointment if you had upgraded from an M240i to your M2. Nonetheless, I look forward what you make of the RS3 - I look forward to comparisons to your M2.
@JVette015 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to comment. However, the M240 to M2 is a big gap in performance for not that much more money. The Golf R vs RS3 is a 20k gap. M240i to M2 is like a 10k gap and even less if you option up the M240. It would make sense to just get an M2 from the get go.
@RevTiberius5 ай бұрын
@@JVette01 I would agree that the price gap between the M240 and M2 is more reasonable than the jump between the Golf R and the RS3; the RS3 is also overpriced vis-a-vis the M2. I disagree on the M240i though. It's plenty of performance. The AWD version is actually quicker 0-60 than the current M2, and within street legal limits in general. Going from premium to top-of-the-line can be fun, but it's a privilege car makers charge a pretty penny for. IMHO it's mostly overkill. To be honest in my experience, even a GTI delivers 80%-90% of the fun of an M2, as different as the cars may be. Much of the difference is just brand prestige and make-believe. I'm not saying the higher-end cars aren't objectively better in some ways because of course they are. They are just rarely worth the upcharge.
@JVette015 ай бұрын
I understand your perspective. However, having owned a MK8 GTI and now my M2, they are nowhere even close to be compared to one another. It's not 80-90% of the M2 at all. Even the M240 vs M2 is on a whole another level when it comes to handling, speed, looks, the trans tuning, and the engine.

I just watched your other videos and was bracing myself for why you didn’t like it. Obviously considering the money you had to pay plus being so tall, I completely get it and don’t blame you. Also, the turbo lag is an acquired taste and makes gaining speed an issue if you aren’t in the right gear or rev range. Everything else seemed pretty subjective so beauty is in the eye of the beholder at that point and I hope you enjoy your time with it for now in spite of those issues. I’ve had my ‘24 RS3 for 3k miles and I’m completely in love. I only hate the fact that it doesn’t have remote start, no 360 camera, and it takes considerably longer for the revs to drop upon starting compared to my ‘21 Mazda 3 turbo. Used to sit in the Mazda ~30 seconds after starting, now closer to ~60 seconds in the RS3. Only other cars I considered were a M340i and KIA EV6 GT. Given on my preferences and price. Can’t say I would ever consider trading it in at this point though. Already looking forward to modding mine bit by bit as time goes on.

Also, gotta make sure you have it in RS Performance/Dynamic mode with traction control and ESC fully off I believe. That should help.

very refreshing video - respect for being honest! overall i think the RS3 is more special than the Golf R (probably the last 5 cylinder car that will be made), but your gripes mostly stem from not being able to test drive one thoroughly before buying it. id also suggest holding off a bit and tuning the car too so you get the full experience. good news is you shouldn't lose your shirt on this should you chose to trade it in.

Yeah I can see why if you're really tall too it would be uncomfortable. I'm 5'9 and rented one recently so fit in fine. It looks amazing, and the steering is sharp and direct. The engine sounds amazing in high rev range. I just didn't like the transmission, not having power throughout the whole band, and it's kind of jerky when it kicks in. The Topher said something very similar about the way the power felt on this car. He said the S3 felt way better on every day driving scenarios and the only time the RS3 felt better was when he pushed it to its limits. I would honestly keep this until the 8.5 Golf R comes out and get that.

RS3 feels great almost all the time honestly because as an owner I know how to drive the car properly by having transmission in S and just being in dynamic or RS performance mode so the car pulls hard instantly lol! RS3 is by far the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a car at almost 50!😄
@JVette015 ай бұрын

The deposit went down a couple of days ago but watching this has made me also consider if I’m doing the right thing. Its about a 20k dollar difference but my R was a 21 plate and the RS is only 6 months old. The wide arches and the 5 pot noise is what’s been pulling me in. I love the RS3, but I’ve always believed that the MK8 R with the revised EA888 engine, new factory fuel pump and the continental turbo is a better bang for your buck when it came to performance out of the box! However, the RS3 is a WEAPON and the platform can be pushed to much higher limits than the Golf R, so it just depends on what direction you want to go with the car. It totally makes sense why you feel that way since you don’t heavily modify your cars. I do hope you grow to love the RS3 more.

I went to check out a new S3 few days ago, and I felt the overall interior space was cramped (I’m 5’8”). The auto transmission and AWD did make the car feel quick from a launch, but it didn’t feel much quicker on a roll than my 2022 GTI manual with EQT stage 1 93. RS3 would likely show more significant performance difference. Very interesting since I’ve heard only positive feedback from other videos and Fb posts of those who have moved from MK8 R to the RS3
@JVette015 ай бұрын
If you're 5'8 you should be fine. However there isn't alot of wiggle room (width wise) for your legs and stuff. I'd just recommend stepping up to a Golf R if you're craving more performance and want to be able to put the power down. S3 doesn't really make sense. Almost the same price as an rs3 and way more expensive than a golf r for no performance gain.

A lot of valid complaints. Biggest reason to upgrade is the 5cyl sound, tuning overhead, port injection keeping the valves clean. The trans can hold more torque for longer, IROZ goodies, physical controls for climate and stuff. You seem to like low range torque which comes along with smaller turbo cars like the GTI. Common complaint amoung Golf R owners getting bigger turbos is the car feeling slower despite having more top end power. I think you also have a point about the RS3 being in break in period as well.
