I Made A Subnautica Mod That Lets You Pilot A Giant Mech Suit

I usually like to keep smaller updates there, even if there's no videos for a while (when I'm working on something big). I think there's already a couple mods for the leviathans out there. Seems like most of the popular mods are crafting or creature-related. This only affects the Prawn so it should work fine with most other mods.

Since you mentioned at the end of this video to mention "mod ideas", I have an idea you might be interested in that combines a mod pack, a set of (adjustable) rules, and config settings to create a fairly tense Subnautica "game mode". The description is too lengthy for youtube, so I'll just summarize it as "low power, low growing, low equipment, low batteries, and constant reaper danger". It's much more involved than just that, so if you want to know the full specification, I can link to the thread. I wish to eventually make it into its own mod, but I'm not married to the idea, if anyone wants to use it for inspiration (or even a playthrough!)

Sounds a little bit like the Deathrun mod, or a similar type of difficulty overhaul mod with user settings. Custom game modes are usually pretty popular if they're done well. Feel free to link it (if KZbin allows it).

Interesting. There are settings for filtering links/language/etc. but I can still see the comments in the "Held for review" section. I've heard lots of mixed opinions about it. Seems to be popular in a small niche but hasn't broken out as big as Unity/Unreal/Gamemaker just yet. I might check it out at some point, but I'm pretty happy with what I can do with my current project already.

Looks neat, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to wait for the modding update for Subnautica if there's any interest in building serious (e.g. game mode) mods, rather than spend a lot of time doing tons of trial and error injection-style coding. Are my comments disappearing?

I see this comment, not any others. Sometimes KZbin automatically deletes comments for some reason and I never get to see them. They're planning a modding update for the original? I don't think it'd break this method, but it may be easier to get in to doing it their way. Probably less flexible though.

@@EphiTV All I know of the update so far is they're planning to combine some Below Zero content, and supposedly it has a heavy emphasis on mod support/API. May be worth looking into, if you can.

@@EphiTV Short version; the next major update for SN1 will bring the engine into parity with BelowZero, meaning a newer version of Unity. Among other things this will also change the way assets are loaded, removing the current synchronous system (for the most part) and replacing it with an asynchronous system. The exact details are a bit too involved to get into in a KZbin comment; For now, suffice it to say it will involve breaking an awful lot of SN1 mods. Mods which work only by code should work, but any mod that loads assets - be they custom assets or vanilla assets, image files through to entire prefabs - will need to be updated to continue working. Anyone's guess when it's going to land, though.

DUDE , For the last Day and a half I have been trying to find the Escape pod #7 , there isn't a single mod that locates any of the pods for me and I'm having a heck of a time finding this one alone , it's only the 4th one but MAN it's hard to find !!!!! Maybe you could do something like that ?

Most of the pods get marked by the radio already. The seamoth scanning functionality might help ya spot stuff like that in dark areas.

Came from the Iron Lung video since I got tons of games in Unity which I'd love to mod so this will work as a little step forward to modding, I used to mod games before but those were in the mis 2000-2015 and just stopped fooling around after.

Unity's pretty great for modding. Easy to decompile, not too tricky to run your own code in, plus a big community. Good luck!

@@EphiTV I can see that, old games I used to mod were mmos that used to allow modding until people broke the game via mods that got them banned and that kind of stuff is what slowly pushed me away from modding plus life and keeping up with new engines sucks.
