I like it! I do think the camera could be tweaked still to be less disorienting. Increasing the world size (while keeping it relatively small of course) could help with this. Having a bit of extra room would also let you add more gameplay options, like dungeons or other surface structures!

Love the idea for the game! Already added to my wishlist. The only point(s) I would make would be as previously mentioned; the camera angles could do with some tweaking, i.e. through making the world ever so slightly larger. Plus the added bonus, giving the player more area to explore, room for more features and possibilities such as structures, dungeons, mini bosses, etc. Something I think would be a nice addition to the game also would be as you eluded to at the end of the video different planets/biomes. But not to have them as separate levels, rather within view of your current planet/home base, to give the player aspirations for exploration and expansion. Side note, the asteroid could then be revised for that of a blackhole sweeping through the solar system so as to not circumnavigate the original impending doom and overall objective of the game. Keep up the great work!

Depends. Like a 5 bucks quick fun game that doesn’t overstay its welcome, absolutely. And id go whacky. Like ~ 20 minutes per planet would be cool cause then you can just keep switching ideas. For overarching goals, maybe solar systems you have a mission in could be helpful. You could see other planets in the background. Sounds cute. Maybe shoot one planet with a laser gun from another? Progress the events there by doing that? Art style seems semi at the moment. Maybe something comical since youd want to be working with an insane color pallette anyways to distinguish the planets… 🤔 Conclusion im interested in where this project is going

Good points! Yes, each planet would be it's own small experience. I'm very much open on how to scale the game up and whether the player should start each planet with no items/ stats or if something should carry through. Thanks for the input!

Emeral you are SO brilliant! Every concept for all your videos is so clever and unique, and I really like your sense of humour too :-) Definitely wishlisting speck miner right now. In response to your question, here are all the ideas I could think of, which you are free to use (or not use) now and in perpetuity: - Might be interesting to play with the planet geometry. For example, maybe the planet is a torus, or maybe you are on the inside of a Dyson sphere - A planet could be "very close to the sun" and you have to stay on the dark side as the planet spins. Maybe the bright sun could also destroy player-made resources but regenerate natural resources - Role reversal: you control the weather/monsters and are trying to prevent another player (or an AI) from defending against the asteroid - In my opinion, any survival-based game is strengthened by the occasional boss battle - I would personally enjoy if some of the levels were more of a puzzle. The enemies and resources could be deterministic, and time would only elapse when the player takes an action. (This thought is inspired by that old GROW cube flash game) - One last idea would be a challenge where you manage several individual planets at the same time (maybe the lore is that you are a ground station controlling separate robots) in a sort of split screen. Could add to the hectic nature of the game

im going reviewer mode - i love the atmosphere and appearance of the game. the "fireflies", lighting, and skybox are all beautiful. the comet's texture looks a bit aliased compared to the planet's texture, but that seems generally easy to fix. - this reminds me of when i used to download minecraft clones and explore them with no knowledge. they were scary and fun asf. - the fist combat looks finicky & difficult, tbh. i don't know how or if this will be updated in the future, however. i would review more, but this is a video demo and i have not played it. and to your question about wishlisting: i would likely not buy this game (because i rarely play PC games). however, if i did play PC games, i would consider buying this game.

It's great to see somebody progressing from absolute beginner in your first videos to making something that looks like it could be a real game that people would play not *just* because it's by some youtuber. Your lighting in particular really sells it for me. Your gameplay design also sounds like it could be pretty satisfying to master, though I'm not completely convinced that the different "worlds" you describe at the end would really be novel enough to keep things interesting and fresh. But it's hard to say without actually playing the game. If there were a demo, 100% chance I would download it and give it a try though. And either way, your progress is a real inspiration to folks like myself who are much earlier in the process of mastering video game development.

this looks and sounds like a really cool game/game concept, I would love to see where it could go, I watched this and another video to inspire my own game which I already have a concept for but no start has been made yet, some things I think would be cool is variation in overworld size, while keeping it relatively small you can make a chance to spawn large planets and small planets which will have different overworld spawns like more rare resources but increased danger or cold to have a good payoff to go to a larger planet, another thing that could be cool is to go to another planet to escape the meteor where you'll have to build camp all over from the start with the astroid still coming at you but this time you have to explore a new planet with more dangers and more resources, maybe after only a couple of planets you'd have enough to destroy the meteor after all, this way you can shorten the time the astroid hits the planet and make it harder while keeping it fair, speedrunners can want to beat the game only on the first planet while people who take it slowly will want to migrate planets every once in a while, but idk

I was gonna make a dumb comment about the fact that I happy because video Emeral as usual, but I ended up having a lot more to say. First, it's funny because I happen to be making a Voxel engine from the ground up (OpenGL and C++), which will eventually turn into a minecraft clone (I'm already thinking of game design ideas). So it's really nice to get your take on it, how you tried to avoid being a basic knockoff and make a unique version of the idea. Second, Minecraft is not 60 000 000 meters squared, it's 60Mm * 60Mm, which is 3.6*10^15m2, or 3 600 000 000km2 (Earth is 510 072 000km2, so 7.05 times smaller as you showed). Your game is 0.00229km2, or 1 571 000 000 000 times smaller than Minecraft instead of 26 000 times as you said. Third, about making it a fully fledged game, to me it feels to much like a "mini game" because of the fact that there are like 8 crafts (all showed) and 4 "placeable" objects, and I don't think I (And I emphasize on the "I") would play more than one planet. THAT SAID, it kinda felt like you didn't know where you were going with this until deep into the project and it still turned I out good, so I am pretty sure that if you wanted to make the core loop better (Again, that's my opinion, I love complex automation games so this is really on the opposite side of the spectrum) you would be able to find a lot of ways to achieve that goal. And as always, YEAH NEW CRAZY GUY CONTENT
@emeralgamedev Жыл бұрын
Haha, thanks for checking my math! I agree that it does feel like a mini game as it is now. I'm thinking that each planet would have its own set of items/ enemies/ goals so there'd be a lot of variation. What I'm not sure about is what, if anything should be carried between planets. Or if the player's stats and abilities increase or something. Thanks for watching and for the feedback. Good luck on your engine and game!
@leocrabe2253 Жыл бұрын
@@emeralgamedev The more thoughts I put into this, the more I feel like the issue is that the progression is VERY linear. The beauty of minecraft partly comes from the fact that you can basically do what you want. Want to explore and never have more stuff than a wooden sword and axe? Fine! Want to go underground, stuff your chests with diamond and never see the light of day again? Go ahead! Maybe there could be multiple ways to win, like you can escape (With a ship, or by reactivating this weird portal-like ancient structure), or survive by destroying the asteroid, or by moving the planet away from its course. It feels like something along those lines could be the missing piece for me (again, that's just my opinion) And thanks!
