Great attention to detail. I have a Thomas 14" cold saw similar. Every time I use it, I think about some sort of semi-auto feed system, to replace that awfully long arc travel of the manual feed handle.

It is a bit awkward to have to reach out so far to begin with.

I am 84 years old and have worked on many things, but never been able to aquire the skill to sharpen drills ! Years ago i saw a tool grinder in a machine shop sharpen a four flute two inch drill by hand ! I was green with envy !
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
I have done a passable job of it purely out of necessity, but I'm very excited to finally own a large drill sharpener. Your reference to a four flute drill made me smile 🙂 I was practically dancing after I made a four flute drill look like new in about 3 minutes with this machine.

Neat job on the vice, It was also great to see the Sellers drill grinder in action. Keep up the good work!

That saw sure is slick. I've never seen a drill sharpener like that one. What a beast!
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
Despite an obviously enormous amount of use and abuse the saw does work surprisingly well. The drill grinder has been an amazing addition to the shop!
@Hey_Its_That_GuyАй бұрын
@@perpetualmotion1 Any chance you can rewire the motor to make the saw cut in the opposite direction, or would that also impact the coolant (oil) pump?
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
@@Hey_Its_That_Guy it could definitely be reversed but it has a big arrow indicating rotation, I'm operating on the assumption that the Germans know what they are doing 🙂

Great job. I always wanted one since the seventies, when i was an apprentice. Till today, i couldn´t afford one, even here in Germany. I have several metal cutting machines in the shop, but that smoothly slow running always fascinates me.

It is an amazingly versatile machine, it does a fantastic job even with years of abuse such as this one has experienced.

I don't think I have ever seen a saw of any kind where the blade cuts against the moveable jaw before that is a new one for sure. Good job making a vise, a much better choice than trying to play the long game of finding an original.
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
Same here, I am assuming that feature has something to do with it's unique vertical slide with rack and pinion drive. It definitely feels a bit odd in operation.
@medliningmachineworks8290Ай бұрын
Could I get you to do a short video and exactly how the saw works how the table pivots in the saw moves up and down on the column I’ve been wanting to convert my cold saw to that kind of set up and considered different designs like to see what the old Germans did. It was probably better than anything I could think of
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
I'll try to get some better footage of that, shoot me an email and I'll send you a link directly.

Cutting towards the operator, and lifting the workpiece?? I look forward to the video where you fix that crazy setup to cut the other direction.

@poisonwombat2Ай бұрын
Can't you reverse the polarity on the motor, so the blade cuts in, rather than out?
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
Because it's a three phase motor reversing it is obviously easy, but the manufacturer plainly designed it to operate this way for some reason. So I'm leaving it alone on the assumption that the Germans knew what they were doing.
@alasdairhamilton1574Ай бұрын
Personally I think the last owner re wired the motor or the plug wrongly switched over two of the phases, and just flipped the blade over to allow it to cut. Seems incredibly dangerous to have the blade cutting towards the operator and lifting the material out of the vice. Please be safe around it. 👍🏴
@perpetualmotion1Ай бұрын
It has a big arrow right on it that indicates the direction of rotation, I agree that it seems pretty bizarre but it's obviously factory that way.
