1:51 This is only a guess, but I think the scaling of 57.74% comes from the following: every vector in R^3 can be defined by its magnitude and two of the three angles that it forms with the X,Y,Z axes. So for each vector, we have 3 angles (we might call them a,b and c for the moment) and we can ask for a magnitude of 1 unit since we can always scale everything. After all that, we can try to get the isometric "view", which, in essence, is equivalent to see the R^3 space in such a manner that the angle between us, the viewer, and the 3 axes are the same (a=b=c). Another way to see it is to place ourselves in a way that the 3 axes "grow" at the same "velocity", or that we are at the same distance to (1,0,0), (0,1,0) and (0,0,1) That is why is called isometric: iso->equal, metric->distance. At the start (1:43), when you have your grid at the "default" orientation we might say that the "camera" or "our view" is parallel to the XY plane, which is equivalent to say that the "camera" is orthogonal to the Z axes. Then, you rotate the XY plane by 45 degrees (or pi/4 radians) so that we can have an easier time moving the "camera" in the next step since the (1,1,0) vector is at an equal distance from X and Y axes, and any rotation we do in the plane defined by (1,1,0) and the Z axes is guaranteed to preserve the bisection of the XOY angle (this means that by rotating by 45 degrees we've managed to make b=c, now we need to have a=b=c). All we need to know is by how much we need to rotate in the Z axes so we have a=b=c, and for that, we can use a formula for angles in R^3: if we have a vector and its 3 angles (a,b,c) we have that cos^2(a)+cos^2(b)+cos^2(c)=1 and since we want that a=b=c, we have that 3cos^2(a) = 1, so cos(a)=(1/3)**0.5=0.577350269, and rounding up we get 0.5774. Then, since we are working with an arbitrary magnitude, we can interpret that as 57.74%. I hope it makes sense and an apology for my broken english.

Interesting game.... As you asked for reason for stretching canvas to 57.74% is as follows... Basically when you stretch it to 57.74% and as you can see in your game if you take a step in any direction and then another step Left or Right... it is directly aligned with starting point (either vertically or horizontally). Example - @2:15 pause the video... imagine you at any one of the tile (Name it A). Take another step(B) and another step Left or Right after B (from player perspective, name it C), then A and C are adjacent to each other either vertically or horizontally. This gives great illusion that they are close by which was used in creating games like Monument Valley, which uses isometric world to create illusion . Hope this was helpful. 😊😊
@n8dev
@n8dev 3 жыл бұрын

@zib350 3 жыл бұрын
But what you say is true for any symmetrical grid that is tilted 45 degrees, look at the grid in the video before it is stretched and you'll see that what you said is already true. The real reason why a stretch of 57.74% exactly is needed, is geometrical. The definition of isometric (as portrayed in videogames and art) is a projection from a 3D space (the game world) to a 2D plane (your screen) that follows some rules. The main rule is that the projected angle between the three main axes of your 3D space (usually called x, y and z) should be the same between every pair in the 2D projection (the angle between x and y should be equal to the angle between y and z and between z and x). One way to do that (and almost the only one you can find in video games and art) is to have one axis that is at 30° from horizontal in the 2D plane, another one at -30° from horizontal and the last one should be vertical. You get lines that are all at 120° from each other which is really pleasing to the eye. The lines of the grid that you stretched correspond to the two first axes (the ones at 30° and -30°)(they represent the ground plane). But before you stretched the grid, the angle between these lines was 90° (instead of 120°). The 57.74% stretch is there to make those lines 30° and -30° from horizontal (120° between each other). 0.5774 is actually the ratio between the height and the width of a triangle that has it's hypothenuse at 30° of horizontal. (I hope it is relatively clear, it's hard to explain all of this without images)

you shouldn't release on apple cause their way of copyright and marketing is dumb, I'm pretty sure if you put your logo on the app and release it on apple then they have the rights and can copyright your youtube channel for the logo cause that happened to someone else

I really appreciate you bringing this up, I've gone through the terms of service and such and not found what he's talking about. With that said, something like that is probably there. The reason he got copyrighted was because he broke those terms of service by using his own external transactions. For an app to be on the app store you need to do it through apple so they get a commission, and unity ads/unity in-app purchases already does that, so I think I'll be good. If you find out anything else I'd love to hear it. Again, thanks for your concerns :)

I just today first watched you video of making a game in one line code and I like that and then I went to your channel and I really like you content. You got a new subscriber. Your all videos are entertaining.
