I Made Custom LED Fog Lamps For Motorcycle!

Fog lamps are a necessity especially during winter months when visibility drops drastically as a result of fog and smog. Headlights are located too far upwards, which do not penetrate heavy fog unlike fog lamps which are located at the bottom.
Aftermarket Chinese made fog lamps are the worst accessory one can waste money on because they simply do not have proper light pattern and blind oncoming road users, increasing risk of accidents rather than than enhancing visibility.
On the other hand, fog lamps in cars have decent light pattern and excellent build quality so I decided to mount them instead. It was not at all easy to mount these on a motorcycle, however with a grinder, drill & welding machine, nothing is impossible and results came out good.
Performance of fog lights with Osram premium LEDriving bulbs is fabulous with plenty of illumination even at a distance. These fog lights do not blind oncoming lane users since these same lamps are factory fitted in cars.
Afterwards LED bulbs were upgraded to 50W 4200K version from Osram which provides even better visibility.

Whatever the modifications made for power supply is good, but those fog lamps fitting legs won't last long. They will break easily and u have closed the air ventilation to fan for led lights

When fog lights in cars can stay intact for years why not on bike? Ventilation has not been closed but merely covered with a cowl to prevent water and dust ingress, ventilation slots are present at the sides as there is a space between housing and cover. Keep in mind that this mod is already 2 years old! I edit videos late.

Hi bro first of all have to appreciate your efforts in creating this video. So far best video I've seen with all the details in it. I own Yamaha Fz s V3 and want to use good led lights on my bike for good wider and long throw as I do Highway rides regularly. I am not interested in using expensive, readily available products in the market. Seems this can work for me. What would the approximate durability of this setup be? Is it economically reliable or does it make sense if we make this rather than the products available in the market? What's the approximate cost for this setup, for led and wirings etc and for customised legguard respectively?

These fog lamps are as durable as any car coming with inbuilt fog lamps. Fog light housing is durable and will easily last entire life of the vehicle unless physically broken. Fog lamps housing costs 3-4k with harness and LED bulbs cost 3-6k depending on wattage and color temperature. Making clamps and welding them as per bike's model is the time consuming and harder is to rewind stator coil and upgrade rectifier regulator. It is not economically viable on a larger scale because most motorcycle riders wouldn't like to spend 15-20k just for brighter lights.

I have a set of Osram 25W LED bulbs with me which I replaced with 50W ones, they have been used just for a year and motorcycle has not been ridden much either during this period, so in case you want, you can purchase single bulb from me as well at cheaper price.

Any modification is illegal which includes using any seat covers, leg guards, different headlight bulbs, different tyre size or using any after market accessories like plastic carry boxes (like these: amzn.to/4fcciAd) unless you have RTO approval which can be obtained the way you get your driving license. Even if you carry a small luggage tied on the back of your motorcycle seat, it is illegal because motorcycles and scooters are meant to carry two people at most, not carry luggage. But you'll see countless pizza delivery boys with modified two wheelers which have boxes bolted at the rear seat, which may or may not be legal depending om whether the fast food chain has got RTO approval for their vehicles or not. Most large fast food outlet have them, smaller ones don't. Recently bike taxi was also in news for similar legal issues. Basically as per law, you can't even change a bulb in your vehicle, whatever has been installed by your manufacturer is legal and whatever servicing is to be done, will be done by service center. Roadside repairing shops aren't legal either and they can't really provide you repairing services legally because they don't have sufficient space and facilities to dispose hazardous petroleum waste either. Now talking practically, yellowish fog lamps are allowed in most states if they are installed at the bottom of the leg guards and their wattage is less than the head lamp. But instructions from local state officials also affect this. There was a time when factory installed white LEDs were challaned by police but nowadays white headlamps do not pose such issues in most states.

Instead of these bulky clumsy power hungry setup which can very easily attract huge challan, you should have gone for those HJG mini drive lights, they are just 20 watt each and very tiny and down't make ur bike looks ugly too. Secondly, COOL WHITE light is just garbage in fog and rains, it just doesn't works, you need yellow or at least minimum warm white LEDs. Thirdly, you put covers on the active cooling system of LED which is heatsink with fan. Its plain stupid!

Osram LEDs just consume 25 watts each, so compared to your Chinese lights which are 20 watts each, there isn't a huge difference, I wonder why you are promoting overpriced cheap quality Chinese lights which don't last even a year. I have bought and scrapped countless Chinese projector lights so I speak from experience, not paid promotion. HJG lights are junk. Bike looks amazing with these fog lights several of my friends have commented but beauty is subjective anyway. Any modification is illegal unless approved by RTO, so please don't tout Chinese fog lights as being legal! Even carrying a saddlebag is illegal my dear, but pothole filled roads are definitely legal! I have used both cool and warm white LEDs and there is no magic color than can dramatically increase visibility in foggy conditions. Warm white performs slightly better than white LEDs in dense fog but it is the angle of the fog light that matters more. Fog lights in cars are always reflector based, projectors lights you are talking about aren't fog lights but instead auxiliary lights being marketed as such in the name of safety. If you had looked closely, there is enough gap between the cover and fog lamp housing for allowing air circulation and preventing water and dirt from directly entering cooling fan. Same LEDs are installed in car headlights with lid closed as well so they are designed keeping that in mind, though in my case there is ample of air circulation available. This modification is already a few years old and lights are still working well, maybe someone who actually creates and uploads DIY videos knows a bit better than viewers who don't post videos and criticize unnecessarily eh?
