I have always wanted one of those vintage paper mache buckets from the 1920's or 1930's bust unfortunately all the real ones in good condition are VERY expensive. So I decided to make my own version from $2 pumpkin buckets from Walmart.

Don't remember when I first subscribed but always uplifted by your chaos. Good job on the buckets. In unusual circumstances I was fortunate to be in the orchestra for 3 musicals which made me aware of stage managers. I watched your video as such and more clearly understood the intricacies involved. It's a very intense detailed career. I'm sorry most are underpaid. Hope this changes in the near future. May God bless you and your family.

Top tip for crafting on your kitchen table. Get a plastic tablecloth, it covers the whole table, is washable, and with care lasts through lots of projects. Wipe it down let dry and stash away for the next messy project. I’ve had mine about 7 years, not bad for $4.99.

_How to Survive Paper Mâche and Look Fabulous_ - For my glue-based papier mâche I a mixture that's basically 50-50 for water and glue. You want it to a thickness where it will adhere to the brush without dripping (you're aiming for a thick liquid rather than thick paste - Add the water to the glue, not the other way around; use the base of your paint brush to stir). Hint - you can also use paper towel if you want to capture a finer layer of detail. I have to try the new clays; I usually use plasticine from the Dollar Store to sculpt what I'm after for the final creation. Then just 'paint' on your glue to the paper that you've precut into smaller pieces. It should take about 24-48 hours to dry (you can use a hair dryer if you're in a hurry). The final and most important part in the process is to wear an apron of some sort and non-latex gloves (you can apparently develop an allergy to latex). Wipe down the bowl of the papier mâche when you're done. Also - you can use very thinned down wallpaper paste for the sticky stuff (generally works better with newsprint). _As for the clay mix..._ - Use a scoop of some sort to measure out how much clay you want to use. And, as Roy Scriber said in that gem of a movie, Jaws, "You need a deeper bowl"... put a damp cloth under the bowl to keep it from sliding around. Oh my goodness the final trick-or-treat buckets are amazing. So well done. All the best of the season to you and yours! - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

@@StephanieCanada Hey, I was in mid-edit when you hit the heart button... tips for dealing with clay was added. Just finishing watching the video... Add wet to dry, just like in baking. Use water to smooth out the clay as much as you can. Biggest takeaway is to place a damp cloth under you bowl to keeping it from sliding around. _Plaster gauze tape_ - I cut the gauze into small, about 2" rectangles. Much, much easier to handle. Wear gloves and an apron. Lightly and quickly run the gauze through the water - in a skimming type of move. Use your fingers to smooth out the plaster until it is smooth and the gauze is no longer obvious. You can do a cast of your face with this stuff... smear an ungodly amount of Vaseline over your face. Tie a strip cut off of a garbage bag around your forehead - this will help release the mold you're making of you. Make sure to add more Vaseline to your eyebrows (or you'll be ready for the 1930's). For you're peepers, apply two damp rectangles of paper towels to your eyes. Wet the gauze, run it through your fingers until it's a smooth strip of plaster (probably 2 or 5 times). Slap it on your face. At first it's going to want to slide off; keep going. Wait for about 30 to 45 minutes (time well spent in questioning your life choices...). The gauze is dry when it stops being cold. If you want to, you can then put a layer of Vaseline over the inside of the mold and mix up some plaster and pour it in... ta da, your face in 3D. You can now sculp things to Spirit Glue to your face... Use a cheep tarp as a tablecloth? If you buy a go-pro for the girls holding the camera in place, you could claim it as a business expense? Next time try using a contrasting colour in coloured pencil for drawing on your painting lines? Bunch of years back I talked my way into an exhibit featuring local artists at the Museum of Nature here in Ottawa. "The Nature in Art" show (or "The Art of Nature"; always get that backwards). My contribution was three sculptures and open workshop lino-printing workshop for the weekend. They were figures from nature rendered (see, artist talk, sigh) of local animals transformed into gothic aged copper gargoyles to watch over Centretown. The sculptures were made out of chicken wire, newspaper, wallpaper paste, plasticine, covered in a layer of paper towel, painted with a copper paint that will age when the chemical whatever liquid that's added. Lessons learned? Gloves are a game changer. And if you can manage artist-talk you can talk your way into anything gallery related???

I really enjoy your videos. I think I got here via Charlie’s/@TheStitchery’s channel. Like her channel, I enjoy that you really do seem to enjoy your own process. Your sense of humour and willingness to show when things don’t go quite right is delightful. I like that your sewing room and fabric storage is like real life, and not an immaculate showpiece that is so curated it feels fake. I’m looking forward to this next adventure of yours. BTW, I keep an old but sturdy plastic shower curtain around just for messy projects like the paper maché. It keeps the extraneous messes to a minimum.

I used to be a stage manager- for one play, a small student production. I was a student as well. And I had no idea what I was supposed to do because I had never been taught on what a stage manager’s duties were aside from a broad idea. And as I sat there, being miserable above the stage as I called the show, I saw my future laid out before me. A career of unstable employment, with too much work for too little pay, which was something I was supposed to do gladly in the name of ART (the theatre community in the city where I was was relatively tightly-knit, so there was always the threat of “if you fuck up or go too hard against what we give you, you will Never Work Again”. We were being taught the ins and outs of different areas of theatre and its production, but we were not taught to advocate for ourselves outside of safety) which was something I was starting to care less and less about. So I dropped out of drama school! So I get why you left stage managing behind. Now I’m in fashion school, and I love to watch your videos while I’m doing my drawing assignments (YT recommended me your Dorothy video and that’s how I got here)! Wish you luck in all your future endeavours!

Yeah... 4 Opera/Musicals like that. Later on, I learned that basically I was an Assistant SM who also called the show...

This reminds me of my son's assignment from a High School teacher (over 25 years ago). He needed a punch balloon, lots of newspapers, lots of white school glue, a map of the World, washable paints, brushes and his mother (me) to read and follow the instructions to get the job done. We spent a whole Saturday making an uneven large paper ball. Later (the next weekend) when the paper mache was dry, I ended up reminded my son to finish this project for his grade. Bobby used a thick safety pin to break the punch ball inside the paper ball (he should have left it alone). He then spent very little time painting a very child like map of the world on that paper ball; however, the dining room table, chairs, kitchen sink, floor and everything he touched was left for me to spend many hours scrubbing up after him again. Monday morning he took the home made globe to the High School. Weeks went by and he told me nothing. I finally asked about the grade he received for that globe. He told me, "NOTHING". I asked, ""Why?" He said, "Because someone used the globes to drop-kick in the hall; and, no one got a grade."

As a recent recipient of a plaster art piece (I broke two bones in my foot three Saturdays ago and was in a cast from toes to knee) I can relate to the amazingness of the plaster strips. They go on wet, smooth amazingly well and dry astoundingly quickly. And with the number of layers that my foot and lower leg were wrapped in I can say it was heavy. Loved the words from your husband at the end. You both are great

I think I came early-ish on to your channel with some of the unboxing that was suggested to me and stayed because even though you're a bit younger than I am our sense of humors are very in line. The plaster that you used on the cat I got my leg wrapped in things that look like that twice once when I was three and once when I was 21 because that's what doctors used prior to the fiberglass wraps to deal with broken bones. Stuff is dang heavy and they would wrap it up many many layers. I always watch to the end of your videos because being a paid KZbin memember you get more money from me if I watch to the end. I'm here for it also cosplay sewing crafting whatever you want to do I'm here for it.

So I craft quite a bit- a few tips since my kiddos love to craft as well😊 1- metal trays /plastic trays just for crafting. Paint, glue: everything can go on, dry and then peel off later. I have old divider plastic plates that are great for beads & other projects that have small rollable bits. 2-gloves can be a saver. While I personally like the feel of water/glue/dirt, it’s not everyone’s jam so I keep food gloves on hand for that (and also to make various foods that need to be done by hand but for food safety reasons, I feel better making with gloves). 3-plastic tablecloths or trash bags. Honestly, it just makes clean up easier. I personally like the ones with a fabric back so I reuse them but I have absolutely used what’s on hand in a pinch (old grocery bags, the single use tablecloths). If you’re really lucky, you can find vinyl (thick, almost hard to bend) that’s able to be cut to size. I found mine at teacher supply store that were intended to be used on desks in place of white boards but I use this puppies for any craft that I don’t want on any surface. A tad late to help at this point but hey, give it a try if you want something like these I the future.

I first saw you when you went thrift shopping with Lady Rebecca Fashion. I laughed so much. So, I started watching you here. If you do small 'stage manager' gigs, some of the really large, flashy, modern churches actually use professionals for their 'community worship experience'. It is not ever a full time job, but most of them have learned that using the volunteers available in their congregation leads to mega costs in broken equipment and dissatisfaction among the supporters who pay the bills. Anyhow, it is a steady small time investment income for a guy I know in Texas who has lots of small jobs to pay for his passion job. Just thought I would mention it. :)

Due to a traumatic brain injury, there's a lot of things I can't do (and being a perfectionist about shit just...adds to the fun), so your approach to doing things actually help a whole bloody lot in me still doing things (as I write, I just realise that I've messed up on a crochet bedcover, but I'm not panicking, I'm not). I just love watching you for your quirky sense of humor, and the fact that you are not perfect in what you do. You are funny and entertaining. When I start my own channel when I figure it out) l, I will most likely utilize some of your style. Keep up your Kaos!!

I believe I found you searching for sewing videos and found the walkaway dress challenge. I have since made 3 walkaway dresses, I know you're not a fan but I love playing with the contrast option and it seems to fit me well. I love your content and can't wait to see your cosplay ideas ❤

As a former theatre jack-of-all-trafes, I feel you on missing it. I especially miss stage mgmt and directing. Sadly, I too, had to give it up due to lack of adequate pay and the need to pay bills (including student loans for the theatre degree that allowed me to work in theatre...) Hopefully I can return at some point in the future. Love your channel!

Came here for the estate sale, was hooked by your personality. I watched pretty much all of your sewing and pattern content even though I don't sew clothes. Wouldn't have the patience. I do sew quilts though.😅 I'm looking forward to future content you will be creating. Just because I like your humor and your personality. 🙋🏼‍♀️

The cat 🐈 is my favorite! Brought back (good) memories of 5th-6th grade art class. We paper-mached using newspaper (when people actually read real newspapers) and wallpaper paste (I have no idea where to find real wallpaper paste anymore). You soaked the paper to soften it. Also, I read that you can actually lightly sand paper mache after it dries to eliminate a few bumps. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Great job with the buckets, I am amazed you were able to fight that ick factor and win :) Congrats to the big crowd of subscribers! I'll keep watching every single video (time to return to the Box numero duo actually, I'm catching up), trying to comment and like. I just love the honest, fun, chaotic vibe around here :)) It's kinda sad that the situation around stage managing jobs is not great, I can see why it suited you... wishing you great success and joy on these different paths, you're doing awesome with the shop and channel already :)

My first order from your shop was December 2022, but I honestly don't remember which video was the first because I went back to the beginning and caught up. I know I watched your estate sale and then stacking all the fabric up to the ceiling when they were posted. I love all your videos because I always learn something. From this video I learned that the clay-covered pumpkin is heckin creepy and I will never make one. Yay for creepy Halloween!

I believe I came over from Charlie from The Stichery because when I hear 'Canada' I always want to check out frllow Canadian creators, then realized my mistake 😅 but stayed because your personality resonates with me! 😁 It's funny to me that the ick for you is the glueing of paper on fake pumpkins, because that's exactly why I can't carve real pumpkins. The texture of the insides is an absolute nope for me. But I can't stand sticky either, so once that glue starts to get tacky on my fingers, it'd be awful for me too. 🫠 Much love from Ontario, Canada 😂

Dear Stephanie - greetings and warm wishes from me in the UK. I have been watching your channel for a number of years, now - since well before the estate sale video. I can't remember what brought me to it... I think it was in Times of Covid. I don't sew; I greatly admire those who do. I enjoy vintage - and particularly how YT has given me a window into the world of American vintage. But the charm of your channel is *you*. The unique you-ness that you bring to your delightful content. You deserve your channel success - long may it continue ❤️

I use a garbage bag cut open. The large heavy duty type ! I once was a very poor young gal & used several taped together for a shower curtain when I first moved into an Apt. I was poor from the "First, Last, Security" apt costs ! Worked fine. A couple paychecks later got a real one ! P.s. actually, shower liners are pretty cheap at 'Dollar stores', might be a good thing to have for crafting if you do a lot of it !?
Let's get ready to go to Sew Expo TO VEND!
