I've been avoiding polyester and nylon for a bit for clothing, but that's because on bottoms it makes my skin react and in tops, it makes me smell like BO in about 3 seconds. I WISH I could not care. There's SO MANY CUTE POLYESTER FABRICS.

You know what I love so much about watching your videos? I love that you make these things for YOU! I just mean that you don’t have the need to follow a pattern exactly or that you don’t care if there’s a few extra seams or whatever. I love so much that you made the pieces fit on the one piece of fabric even if that required you to sew a few parts together. In the end it all is going to make the same thing just one will have a few extra seams but saved fabric because of it!! Thank you! I do this myself and I see so many others not. ❤

I love that you use the basic sewing items! You sew on a budget that most of us can understand. I've been sewing for around 40 years (Thanks, Mom) and I still only have a sewing machine. No serger. When the choice came to buy a new sewing machine or a cheap serger, I went with a new sewing machine so I could have one set for knits/embroidery and the old one as my basics. That you sew with the basic equipment makes what you do so much more relatable and obtainable. Do I have a cutter matt? Yes. I lucked into it on clearance 25 years ago. I'm glad I did. Tip for that now is to check Office Supply stores for the best prices. It is the same type mat for paper or sewing.

I also lost three and a half stone so I need clothes or alter what I have . You have encouraged me to have a go, I have a hate relationship with patterns and as you demonstrate who needs them. You're funny. "Going to make this but I'm doing it my way" The actual pattern front piece only leaves a couple of inches open at the back and it eliminates the underarm problem you had. I do like the full skirt on your front piece. I put two buttons in the back for adjustability. I made it in an '80's floral duvet, it was supposed to be a practice it took so much longer than the 4 hours it was supposed to that I haven't done it again, yet, lol but I do wear it a lot

Oh my god, I am so happy to find another person who does this. I have an allegedly perfectly functional sewing machine that's a hand me down from my mother who got it from her sister who bought it in the late 70s-early 80s. The times I have used it, it did eventually function but took a lot of time and frustration to get the stitches to...ya know, stitch stuff. So I've spent the last few years aggressively avoiding the sewing machine and making bags and stuffed animals and quilt-as-you-go blocks by hand, even though I know it is taking wayyyyyy longer than it could. 😂

I love the chat about the mindsets varying when you're coming into a project due to past experiences. There are SO many different things that people have done in regards to crafting things, embroidery as you stated for example (especially by hand) takes FOREVER. If you're using rotaries and such for quilts, or even sewing machines for hemming and such it goes a LOT faster than if you're doing your cuts or sewing your stitches by hand. I love that you stated that there's a lot of differences in how to make things and that it's fine to test and see what works for you as a creator.

I started sewing again a few years ago after I'd been doing a lot of cross stitch. It took me a REALLY long time to figure out that I could sew things by hand with no big issues. Sure, it's slow, but cross stitch is far slower. I do get into trouble with the speed of sewing with a machine. It's so easy to turn pieces wrong way round. Still working on the concept of French seams. The mind boggles.

I love your style. I have 20 years of experience sewing with patterns and a 20-year time gap. Now, there are so few traditional patterns. Woven permanent press is scarce. A better selection of knits that fit our lifestyles better that I am beginning to think that I can at least figure out how to make my own patterns. I also got a serger 2 Mos ago and have sewn 3 nursing shirts, 4 children's Ts, 4 sleepers, and another simple woven shirt. All but the last woven piece was a knit and the serger made the most beautiful seams I have ever sewn. I can't believe I waited so long to get one. I'd still be waiting but my daughter found a brother 1634dx for $100. Someone sewed 1 seam and gave up on it. This really needs to be your first tool purchase.

Hi. I found your videos about a week ago. You’re videos are very interesting to watch. I was thought very basic sewing when I was young and decided it was not for me. Then I got an entire roll of beautiful blue and green paisley fabric on a tube at a consignment store for 8 bucks. I had to have it just Incase I could use it for something. For anything. It was such beautiful fabric for so cheap I could not walk away from it. Well I held on to it for years until recently I was invited to a renaissance fair and gifted a sewing pattern for a beautiful costume dress. I dove in head first. At lest I’m using a pattern. It’s coming out so good so far I’m still shocked I made it. I have a growing collection of clothing patterns now that I can’t wait to get to.

17:21 a very inexpensive alternative to the cutting mat is to take a piece of plywood, line the top with rolled cork (you can find it reasonable at hobby lobby, may find it cheaper at like a lowes or Home Depot), then take your ruler and a fine-point permanent marker and add your grid lines… got it out of an old sewing book, it also says you can use an old door (find it at yard-sales or at a thrift store like the habitat for humanity stores where they sell different stuff like doors, cabinets, floor/backsplash tiles, and household appliances for cheap) just a thought lol

I’ve just recently found your channel and I think it’s great. I am so encouraged that you sew all these knit items WITHOUT a serger. I don’t have one and no one else tells you that you can make these lovely clothes without one. Thank you!

I had the opportunity to have worked at jo Ann's. Took home ec and another bulk fabric store in phoenix. I made several costumes. I thought sewing was fun. The pattern you are doing I did. It ended up in my stash scraps. Yours is beautiful. I did buy a mini serger it didn't go long.

I love this dress. Totally understand the tweaks you want to make but this dress is now on my list of projects.......that I have no idea when I'm going to do 😂

This knit version looks better than most of the versions I have seen. Another channel recommends hanging the circle skirt pieces for a day before construction and then checking them against the pattern. (Which you don't have...lol)

I’m inspired to attempt some garment sewing, which I did do all through Jr. High and High School, then nothing for many years. Now I’m 66, have lost 100 pounds and I need a whole new wardrobe. YIKES!!! I’m not ready to shop because in the past I had been tough to find what I truly like. I’m not even sure what my size is! 🤪♥️👍

I am so glad you did this dress. I have this pattern as well but was nervous since so many said it had so many horrible fit issues. Love this dress though and I love how you approached it. Thank you for your videos!

A video a while ago (can't remember which one, I've been bingeing this channel) where you asked what to do with your overflowing knit basket. Challenge: Sew it all together into a crazy stripes meets Jackson Pollock continuous fabric sheet that you make something out of. But first I want to see what it looks like as a pure zero waste piece of fabric, if you choose.

My mom mailed me some pretty knit fabric, and I've been too chicken to try making anything with it xD Maybe I'll be brave after watching this... the floaty drape as you spun!! So pretty!!
