If you're looking for a rebuild at the D2 level, do a Ferris State rebuild, which is a school just an hour north of Grand Rapids. They have been a pretty dominant team over the past five years, and even lost a close game against FCS Montana in 2023 in a season that was a down year for them. After winning their first D2 title, they have gone on to win three out of the last four championships, which could be another part of the challenge where you would have to do the same thing.
