For honkai (Literally playing it as im listening to this) you dont even have to like gatcha games to enjoy it, the story and humor lands so freaking well that just running through the main part of the game is awesome. The characters are all pretty well balanced, so you have no need to pull, just use the free people. Plus there arent that many characters in the game right now ayway and you get a decent amount of free pulls. Unlike most gatcha games, Hoyoverse makes some that are a lot less predatory

First off, the characters are "balanced" cus the gameplay is dumbed down to the point where all that matters is breaks and you have 0 real decision making in terms of skill usage. 2nd, maxing out a SINGLE banner 5* costs $1.5k on average, upwards of 3-4k if you are unlucky, and thats before even touching the weapon banner... that is as predatory as it gets my dude lmao

Sure the game has cool characters that are hard to max out, but that’s completely optional, there is no need or pressure to. Obviously they use a looot of FOMO, so its not like there is absolutely ZERO pressure to pull or anything, but the idea of spending is entirely in your own ability to not simp over pixels

They all have similar multipliers with specific talents that makes them actually stand apart, like Seele's "its my turn" kinda gimmic. Everyone performs if you build them well enough, except maybe herta but I havent gotten that far in the game yet, just from what ive heard. also also it being balanced isnt a bad thing lol

And looking at mihoyo games, star rail follows the exact same awful patterns all their games do: god awful premium currency income once your initial one time resources dry up (enjoy saving up potentially up to 180 pulls for a single character as f2p/low spender when the average daily resources you get are worth less than a single pull), and braindead gameplay past a certain point cus mihoyo is notoriously terrified of creating any sort of real end game content, which again is made even worse in this case by star rail's already lackluster combat system. Just because content isnt hard paywalled doesnt justify one of the worst gacha systems i've seen in a long time, and the complete lack of difficulty can only do so much to mask it as "f2p friendly"

@@cocopop183 "all characters are balanced" yes by the fact that they removed any sort of real team building choices (just use strong element or you're fucked if you cant overpower with raw stats), and any sort of actual decision making in the actual skill usage, the entire system is a binary "can i use skill? Yes, use it/no, normal attack" when characters are literally nothing more than statsticks with an element attached to them it aint hard to balance anything, it just removes all depth
