So, with that in mind, it's not too surprising that with hundreds of other species being just as traditional or having insanely bad luck that they don't really advance that far and we see this the farther we go away from the core worlds that it becomes less advance and more primitive and traditional.

They remained highly traditional with a feudal system for another 300 years, while Europe made significant progress in many technologies and social structures. Once they became industrialized though, they got extremely serious, as everyone probably knows. Wonder how the Wookies remain as they are even though they've been dragged into conflicts that far exceed their tech. Is it the republic/rebellion providing said technology?

Honestly, only reason Revan wasn't successful was because the other figures of his day didn't have the stomach to support his solutions, often fighting against him to halt his success. Case in point, the whole Yavin incident, where the emperor was coming back regardless, it was only a matter of time, Revan wanted to bring him back early in a weakened state and finish him for good, the Jedi and Sith united to stop him. He was the single most powerful of all of them, and at full strength without the schizo conflict going on in his mind between the real him and the Jedi crafted personality, he was near equal to Vitiate. He brought the two sides together, and rather than join him to put an end to the threat, they still tried to stop him because they were more concerned with the emperor staying dead a year or two longer, and it still took all their combined efforts to bring down Revan alone. On a side note related to that, their actions directly bring about the Eternal Empire arc, which leads to the death and subjugation of trillions of people. Great job.
