Paimon was originally meant to posses Annie's dad or brother, but both men killed themselves before he could do so. Presumably, they both realised what Annie's mom was trying to do, but were written off as mentally ill. The cult were stuck with what to do, so Annie's mom bullied her into having children. Annie on some level knows any children she has will be doomed (hence why she tried to have a miscarriage and tried to kill them when sleepwalking) and so kept Peter away but caved to letting Charlie know her grandma. As a result, Charlie was possessed as a baby by Paimon. TL;DR Charlie is Paimon. But Paimon doesn't want to be a girl, so the witches created this convoluted plan to put Paimon in Peter, which succeeds at the end. The tragedy with Annie is: 1. She genuinely loves her kids but wasn't raised in a loving home and struggles to be a good parent. Her violent behavior (trying to kill her kids) was her trying to 'save them' quite sincerely. 2. She said at the start that she 'is blamed'... and she is, but she was just like a doll in a doll house controlled by higher forces. Also At the dinner scene, Annie sees Peter sneering all the time because it’s Paimon. Just like when Peter has a regular face in class but his reflection is snarky/sneering.
@Bunny_Aoife9 күн бұрын
I personally don't think that Annie's dad was supposed to be a target for possession, i think it kinda needs to be a sacrifice of your kid or you know grandkid... in the bloodline... I think the dad just couldn't take what was going on. But I don't have any evidence for that, I just feel like if you could put Paimon in your husband you can just remarry try again... like I just think a husband is not necessarily "enough of a sacrifice". But I also don't think she just married him as a sperm donor so to speak... or she would have already put Paimon into Annie's brother at a very young age, with less resistance... like with Charlie. So I think the whole idea of summoning Paimon only emerged when Annie's brother was already born and a bit older. (This is all just me theorising though, with no evidence at all.) I agree with the rest.

they cut 80% of the gore FX for Charlie's death as they felt it was too gratuitous. and the foley work was more of a wet squish initially, which made it sound like her head was obliterated but they replaced it with a blunt thud as her head needs to be intact when they find it on the road later, sans the jaw which got smashed obviously.

this is why the welcome mat was left out, it was deliberate. and the highlighted text in the book. they don't care if Annie finds out about the plot - it's even better. the epiphany primes her up for possession which they need to mutilate her in front of Peter.

Been wanting this reaction on your channel for a while and y’all delivered!! So fun to watch lmao. I also just realized the facial expression in Peter’s reflection in the glass when he’s in school…that’s what his face has looked like to everyone else! That’s why Annie said he’s been sneering and smug at her since Charlie’s death, which also makes her pop-off even more understandable bc that’s the face of a psychopath 😭 and her saying “I was trying to save you” in her dream with the paint thinner was bc she knew her mom was planning to help that demon possess any son Annie had, and she wanted to protect him from that fate!

the shot of Annie's face going slack after Paimon enters her was done in 1 take. she nailed it first go and had little input from Ari on what being possessed is supposed to look like and that's her take on it, her face going limp. it was the last thing they ever filmed too! they saved that whole fire stunt for the final day. and I think the chat at Joan's house over tea, that was the first scene they ever did. so this movie wasn't shot chronologically. would have been difficult for Toni emotionally, to act out Annie's journey in a jumbled order.

This is the first time I’ve seen your channel. Great FILM to start with!! My first question is for Anthony… hey, Anthony. Did you co-Star in “Tucker & Dale vs Evil”? You could have been the stand in for Dale! That movie is hilarious!!! This was the first film this director did. The imagination of each of the shots were amazing and each shot meant something. I love that long shot at Charlie’s funeral. The camera is even with the casket, Toni Collette is doing an Oscar worthy performance, and as the casket is lowered, the camera stays on the same level as the casket as it is lowering. But then it keeps going down into a grave, giving you the perspective of what YOU would see (if you weren’t dead,) as you are being lowered into your grave. It becomes claustrophobic in the hard, gray, clay of your tomb. Brilliant shot! In one of the first expositions of the script, the husband asks Annie how are her diorama’s coming along. She said, “Oh, I’m working on the hospital (of when she was giving birth,) and then I’m going to work on the preschool (showing the time frame from when Charlie was born until she was possessed by Paimon for safe keeping.) One gaff they can’t get away with is the treehouse. At the beginning of the film, there is enough room in there for Charlie to sleep with a space heater. Later, there’s enough room for Annie to be comfortable in there with two space heaters. At the end, there is enough room for the statue with Charlie’s head on it, headless grandma, headless mom, lots of naked people hailing Paimon, Joanie and Peter. I call it the ever expanding treehouse of horrors. You guys were fun! I’m going to check out what else y’all have reacted to. As someone who used to be in the filming industry, I’ve got some great films on the scary side for ya’ll to check out. @j.kel115 күн бұрын
Fun fact: it’s hard to see but the audio is dubbed. The line from the original script is “every member needs to be in the room” but for filming they changed “room” to “house” since grandmas corpse is not in the room with them. Therefore it would not add up or make sense. If you look closely and read joans lips you can actually see her mouth the word “room” instead, while the voiceover says “house”. They just never reshot that scene since it’s such a small mishap.

Great reaction. I'd heard of King Paimon somewhere before this. So ended up geeking out a little finding out about him. The lore this film uses is pretty much spot on. The book you see is even one of the few books containing lore of Paimon (12th century). All the symbols used are correct. Even the artwork you see of Paimon is a cope of the original art. Even things like the floating is correct. Paimon is the King of mischief, & if you read the text it says he can bend, or even break, the laws of physics. Floating, easy. Annie passing through the floor to get into the attic, easy. & the conjuring of riches. You could place a block of wood in front of him & he could turn it into anything, let's say gold. Although they just changed the title of the book. But they did change a couple of details for extra horror effect. King Paimon is actually 1 of 9 kings of Hell. So the thing about needing to face in a certain way is incorrect. The other change is the beheadings. His lore contains nothing about that. The reason it was included was the art work you see in the book. He has 3 heads hanging from his belt. So they changed that. But it adds a Lot of extra scare. Otherwise, no lore was changed. Hope that helps you sleep a little more soundly. Hope everyone is having a great week & much love to everyone from here in the UK

24:12 I get it when people point out that Annie made Charlie go with Peter... but I also understand her perspective, Charlie is socially awkward and a loner, she needed to learn how to socialize. My criticism for Annie is not giving them EpiPens since she's obviously not there to supervise what Charlie is eating... on the other hand my criticism for Peter is, he lied by omission, he said that he wouldn't drink alcohol at the party, which is true, but he omitted the fact that he intended to smoke weed, which is worse than drinking alcohol, especially since he was gonna drive back home after the party... and even if Charlie didn't go to the party with him, it's still irresponsible behavior to drive while high. I know that Peter wanted to have fun at the party, but at that moment he needed to weigh his priorities, he needed to be a responsible older brother, but he failed, the moment he agreed to bring his sister to the party, he should have changed his plans about smoking weed, he should have saved it for another time. I'm not American so my opinion might be controversial to most Americans, but in my country it's normal for parents to ask their older children to babysit or keep an eye on their younger siblings, which means being a responsible older brother/sister. Lastly, I also criticize Charlie for being a 13-year-old who isn't responsible enough to check her own food for allergens, although I also blame her parents for infantilizing her as well... but yeah, a kid with severe food allergies needs to grow up quickly and learn how to be responsible for themselves in some ways, because what if no one else is there to supervise what they eat?... She's not a toddler, by the age of 13 she should have already known what foods to avoid.

I think there's plenty of blame on all sides of the situation. Annie did force Charlie to go to the party against her will, seemingly because she was feeling annoyed with Charlie that day and just wanted her out of the house for a few hours. And Annie didn't check to confirm that they were bringing an EpiPen with to the party - which, as the adult parent of two teens, is absolutely her responsibility to check. She's the one with the fully-developed frontal lobe, so that responsibility falls to her. On the other hand, Peter didn't pay any attention to his sister while at the party, told her to go eat cake without bothering to check if it had nuts in it, and then drove recklessly to the hospital while under the influence, rather than calling an ambulance. And then his trauma-induced shutdown made the whole situation worse, causing Annie to discover what had happened in the WORST possible way.

@@dlweiss he's the one that killed her. Annie is 100% blame free. But also that was the cult that orchestrated that. The only thing that he is absolutely to blame for is his reaction. She had to find her daughter's headless body without warning because he just went to bed. When she finally yelled at him I was feeling everything she was up until that moment

@@dlweiss and the fact that people think sending her to a party is enough to blame her for her death in comparison to driving the car past the poll that decapitated her is insane to me

I wouldn’t place blame on anyone. It was unfortunate circumstances and a horrible accident. But you would have to put culpability on Annie. I never understood why she forced him to take her to a party she didn’t want to go to that I would argue wasn’t age appropriate. Who sends their 12yr old to a party with what I’m guessing are 16-18yr olds? Especially since she suspects her son will either be drinking or getting hi. 🤦🏾♀️
