Hey Trond, congratulations on the new camera. In the scenario you were in one thing you might try to prevent the AF from grabbing the foreground is to set your "Focus tracking with lock on" (A3) to a more delayed setting, like 4 or 5. That should make it less apt to refocus on the foreground. Just remember to reset it when you go on to other shooting scenarios. Switching from DSLR to mirrorless brings with it some challenges (new AF), but also some blessings, especially with respect to video AF. Maybe one day Nikon will send you a Z9 to test drive. :-)

Hello Trond, First I hope you had a super Christmas time and an amazingly good 2022. I have had my Z7ii for over a year now, and have only used my D850 one or two times since then. There is a learning curve with any new camera and it is a bigger curve when moving from DSLR to mirrorless. I feel there is far more customisation with the Z's and getting used to the focusing modes is fun. For me I have been shut in with all these lock downs with the virus and not been out any where near as much as I would of wished but I am enjoying this new system when I can. Keep well, keep safe and find some time for fun

Hey Trond, congratulations on your new camera, I love my Z6ii personally I don't like the tracking mode for my type of wildlife photos mainly walking around not hide/blind use, I use small or large area or single point depending on the circumstances, could be the slow tracking could be due more to my lens its a nikon 200-500mm , as you say so many functions you can personalise on the function buttons. Enjoy your new camera

I thought you'd be tempted by the Z6ii at some point Trond. I added it to my arsenal a couple of months ago but was gutted that it didn't like my 'D' series 600mm f4 and 300mm f.28, my newer Sigma 150-600 works a treat. Looks like an expensive lens change is on the cards!! As a fellow vlogger I think the advantages of the video capabilities of this camera will outweigh the downsides. The silent shutter is an awesome advantage to have for close work. Great film and lovely footage of the Goshawk, good luck with the new setup 👍🏼📷🎥

Beautiful images Trond. I use a mirrorless for wildlife. The improved auto focus over a DSLR is a game changer. My camera is rated at a very poor battery life, though I get about double the rating, so I carry extra batteries with me. For me this is a trade off I was willing to make.

Merry Christmas and congratulations. Nice to hear that you eventually went for Z you too. Have had the Z6 since it came and been impressed with how mirrorless offers many new possibilities. Not always optimal when it comes to photographing action, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Have supplemented my Z6 now with a used Z7. New firmware seems to compensate a lot for the benefit new mark 2 provides so I stick to version 1 for now. Also have a D850 I have not yet got rid of. Lean back now and wait for a possible Z8 that may inherit some of the excellent features the Z9 offers. Thank you for great and inspiring videos Trond. Hi Trond, great video and beautiful images. In our business we shoot, Nikon, Fuji, Sony and Blackmagic. Nikon actual improved the autofocus in the regular Z6 and it’s actually better now than the Z6 II at least for what we do which is event photography. I can’t wait for the Z6 II update to improve it further, but the Z6 eye autofocus is so much better, who would have guessed.

I read that people don't like mirrorless because of reduced battery life. I am no pro photographer and I only have bridge cameras, but if you are willing to spend so much on a pro level camera, how would buying extra batteries be a deal breaker? I was a bit disheartened that you kept your torch on the owl for so long. It was clearly blinded as it kept turning left right, left right to avoid the direct beam. When holding such a narrow beam on wildlife, I always use only the edge of the beam, and then point away periodically. So: 2-3 seconds onto the subject with the edge of the beam, away for a few seconds, back again, away again. The poor owl had to fly away simply to avoid your beam. It’s surprising how close you can get at night with good torch technique.

@Markitosgm3 жыл бұрын
Hi trond, I'm sure you are going to enjoy the camera a lot. I also waited for version II to come out before jumping to it. As you say there are things that you cannot do with Dslr and above all how easy it is to change from photo to video with the twisto of your thumb, in addition to being able to look through the viewfinder while you are recording, which was a nuisance with a Dslr. I'm still working with the D500 and D850, but the Z6 II definitely has a preference place in my backpack. One of the things that worried me the most was the performance of the battery and on my first day I went to photograph the Spanish ibex. I ended up taking more than 940 images on a single battery charge in addition to 100+ video clips, so for me the test passed without any complaint. I hope soon to be able to upload a video about that day on my channel. It is true that you have to adapt to the system because the different AF modes are many and you have to learn how to get the most out of them. Another quality that I love about the camera is its high ISO performance. I hope you do not mind that I include a link to facebook where I have uploaded images of wild boars made at night with very high ISO and without flash. This one in particular was taken at 46800 ISO and without applying Topaz Dnoise in post. facebook.com/photo?fbid=10223788662016151&set=pcb.10223788663616191 Best and keep well.
