Julie, thank you so much for these videos. As a fellow American what has happened yesterday is so heavy on my heart with our country being torn apart. I was just in tears. Thank you for a reprieve and a safe place for my mind to visit. It helps so much to see the world still turns and there is beauty to still experience. Grateful that you’ve brought me some Tuscan therapy. You’re IMPORTANT in many lives.

I think in your window you need a large hand blown vase of many colors, so the sun shines through it and shines jewels of color around the room. Get an oversized one and don’t put any thing in it like reeds or dried grasses. Let the light from your window have a free path through it so it sparkles. You could put a small assortment of colored bottles of different shapes and colors up there too. Italy is known for beautiful glass and that is a great window sill for displaying some!

Julie, your taste is impeccable. Those Alice in Wonderland prints come from a 70’s edition of the book. I know because I owned that book growing up. They probably took them from the book and put color in them. I remember them being B&W. Gorgeous finds! I love the way you put this house together, little by little. I also admire the way you have adapted to the culture. Great progress learning italiano!

People seem to hawk it. American who speaks Spanish, I adapt immediately to the local accent. Mexican,Central American, South, Spain Got razzed and mocked for it. I wish there were a total acceptance of her process. Now adding Italian. It would make me self conscious.Just from my vantage point . Wish people would stop pointing this out .

Well done, Julie! The place is looking so lovely, elegant, and comfortable! I just have one teeny, tiny idea about the living room. What would you think about reversing the positions of the two wonderful glass-topped tables at either end of the couch? At least from what I can see on the video, the larger square table sticks out just enough that people might feel a bit of a risk - even if it's subconscious - of bumping their knee on that metal corner as they're coming down the steps. This could just be me, but I think the smaller round table would create an easier sense of flow as you enter this room. Also - oh god, here I go - what about removing the square painting behind the hat rack and hanging an oval mirror in its place, to match the curving lines of the other pieces on that wall? Thanks so much for asking for our input, and I hope I haven't over-stepped your generous invitation!

My suggestion for above the kitchen sink in front of that nice new clean window, would be three or four pots of mother-in-law tongues. They are a beautiful plant that can offer you privacy and they can live through some pretty bad drought. They're the perfect plant for people who kill plants.

This is my fav room in your house. Love everything in the kitchen and the green as well. When I saw the black stove, I thought .."that's too bad"...so happy to see you will soon have an Italian one. I needed a new stove here on Cape Cod and decided on a white Bertazzoni which elevated my whole kitchen. I am still learning how to use all the burners and the oven. . If your oven gives a loud bang after about 10-12 minutes ..the technician all tell me that is normal though I have never heard a bang in any other stove. They say that is may diminish over time or completely go away. There is company in the States that imports handmade tiles like yours and they are the only ones I am considering for my kitchen. You should feel very proud of yourself having done so much of the work yourself.

Looks so good, Julie! Nice job to you and all the workers! Since you're not going to have a mop board (you painted instead) just remember that the couch an other pieces of furniture can make nicks in the wall, so maybe get some square rubber stoppers to put under the legs to keep that from happening? Putting up a chair rail also is good at preventing damage to the walls. Just a suggestion.

Oh Julie, the kitchen is absolutely stunning and I LOVE the marble sink. How about putting a beautiful piece of pottery in the window area? The painting over the couch in the kitchen is contemporary yet fits in perfectly. The one thing I find odd about Europe is that their are no window screens to keep out bugs. Here in the U.S. homes all have them and I'm thankful because I hate bugs, but especially mosquito's. Enjoy your home. Great job. Can I borrow Malcolm when I do my kitchen next year? LOL

Anywhere you live in Australia, window screens are a must have item!! I couldn't imagine living anywhere without them!! My parents had louver windows without the boxed screen so my sister & I bought mosquito netting & set about covering the window areas with it, placing tape around the edges & hammering tacks in to keep it in place & to give it a nice finish. No thanks from my dad but at least I didn't have critters in my room when staying with them.

All is so very lovely. The old prints can be protected from the bright light by using UV glass. Reds, especially fade to blue.

Your kitchen is going to be so beautiful. I saw similar white tiles, to those of your backsplash, in an immense ancient kitchen in one of the palaces in Portugal. They are just scrumptious in yours, but can you imagine a two story kitchen! You've developed a real eye for finding vintage treasures. Your place looks amazing.

For that high window nook, what about an antique water vessel? Either pottery or glass... something that looks ancient! Or an ancient Etruscan olive oil vessel! With handles! Large enough to warrant that space and to draw the eyes up! So glad to find another 'collector' of tea towels! I am not alone in my gathering and 'rescuing' of these beautiful textiles! For the dingy crocheted lace pieces -- try soaking them overnight in some Oxy-Clean. If the fibers were originally white, they will come clean (or whiten up) after several overnight soaks in that Oxy-Clean or similar. Perhaps sun bleaching on your terrace in full sun, too. I am having SERIOUS kitchen envy! Can hardly wait for the final full reveal!

Those lace strips are not hard to crochet, so if you know someone who crochets or will teach you to do so, you could easily produce some new ones to take their place. If you wanted off white, then tea dye them when finished. Ten years ago I would have happily made some for you but arthritis has finally caught up with me & so I am no longer able to continue knitting or crocheting. Actually, you could also knit them as I have done knitted laced strips in the past. You just need to go online for a pattern.

@@louisebrislane6607 Yes! There are also some newer crocheted lace designs available in craft or sewing shops. Some are quite nice. Those in the video looked vintage and wrapped around the edges of the shelves. A look I had not seen before, but very effective for a vintage piece like that. Behind closed doors, the kitchen fumes and odors might not make them too icky around pottery and glass.

I would swear that this entire year has been installing your kitchen! When I had my bespoke kitchen installed, we went from Texas to Alaska for a 3 week vacation. My fridge and my pantry were switched, but it turned out to be spectacular. So my advice would be just let the workers do their job and be happy.

Wow Julie, it is absolutely gorgeous. The black oven makes the colours pop- it will be interesting to see the difference when you exchange it for the white one. You are a human dynamo, and where the extra energy comes from I don't know! Thr cleaned up kitchen tiles are beautiful, the floor tiles are so deep and rich looking, all the tiles are perfect for the effect you wanted, ir looks glorious! No wonder you are so excited, I feel the same way!! Looking forward to the next installment. Nestor is so calm and helpful, a perfect foil for your whirlwind energy. His pictures are a great addition to the map bedroom- guest bedtoom?- it's beautiful as it all comes together. Well done! 🌹

YES! And since true terra cotta will definitely absorb stains from spills, the idea of porcelain tiles was PERFECT! I love that herring bone pattern! Classic and elegant, but so very contemporary, too! Timeless!
