From FLACs of metal, gospel, movie soundtracks, orchestras, and even rap, everything sounds so vibrantly present. Bass is RICH, trebles ring without fatiguing at all. Cables? I still prefer the 2020 version because of the mids being more in your face and powerful, and when using iems with btr5 only the Kinera Idun and Moondrop Aria had too weak bass to "survive" being flattened out. The JQ 4U Pro sound great with Crinacle's flat bass because the drivers and whatnot provide so much natural and authoritative low-end that it can be dialed back and still keep the toes tapping and basslines singing. With that said, it seems to be the case that however much bass quantity/quality you start with, that's how good it will still sound/feel at flat levels (of course at that point it's no longer so strong anymore that it interferes with the vocals and lead instruments). Sometimes, however, you get iems or earbuds that aren't very loud in volume or don't have a powerful enough bass to cooperate with Crinacle's 2020 target. In such instances I either give the 2023 target a try, which I usually end up not liking, or I add the relatively similar amount of a bass boost that's seen on the 2023 target and apply it to the 2020 (I just type 2.5 in the bass boost feature on Crin's graphs and it makes those bass-shy products usually sound better). If I try the same method with something like the 4U Pro, it then sounds too bassy and I have to bring it back down to flat. I guess you can say I'm allowing the dynamics and speed, tonal/timbre quality and resolution speak for itself, because I've just discovered today that even when cranking up the buffer size on Wavelet to the maximum, the bass mids and treble still sound beautifully balanced on the 4U Pro when auto EQ'd to the 2020 target. Thought I'd share my process with you as a metal head-- but I guess since I like so many variations of metal and other expressive and musically complex genres- Harman target stuff just doesn't impress or please me anymore- not enough mids. Rtings target isn't so bad-- but sometimes those treble notes do get kind of clashy and out of control, though with great detail retrieval and atmosphere if the IEMs in question have the technical wizardry or drivers to make the most of what I think Harman does well. Most of the time- Rudolph Schenker's rhythm guitar work lacks a full-bodied thickness and crunch to really accent his tonal flavor, and it simply sounds so much more badass when I can hear any rhythm guitarist laying it down without being outperformed by the bassist- as a bassist, I "know" when it's too much and I can't ignore it when it is, hence my admiration for flat bass. Alongside how I like my guitars to sound, you gotta have that "pow" from snare hits and that "thud" from the kick drum on point. I can appreciate Harman when it plays around with the cymbals and high-hats for a more immersive atmosphere, but all that extra spice can feel awkward next to a less accentuated snare section. Not all Harman-esque targets cut down on the lower mids and/or upper mids,but when they do I can't ignore it- then it's that much harder to EQ better mids because more often that not the tuning you start with it the sound signature that remains- so recessed mids will still sound recessed, at least compared to an IEM or headset that has more by default. Of course tone and timbre matter with all those things as well, which is why I prefer a neutral-natural sound. Neutral tuning with natural timbre. It's a win win...when done correctly. The 4U Pro were very close, but the lower treble is too smooth and being driven by a BA can sound awkward at times, even when EQ'd to the max. I had hoped they'd be the IEMs I never have to EQ at all, but I went against my better judgment with that less than neutral amount of emphasis from 2.5Khz to 5Khz. With the dips in that region, metal music of all sorts- whether it's Stryper, Metallica, Living Colour, Dokken, Scorpions, Testament, or Faith No More- it sounds like oatmeal...all squishy, mushy, and lifeless. It's as if someone took the entire lead instruments section from any metal band and tossed into a pile of wet mud. Does it sound better with maximum EQ? Yes, but when you consider that this is supposed to be an earphone for playing with a band, basically a stage iem....yikes. EQing at that point becomes a luxury strictly tied to my Galaxy s10 and not much else 🤷♂️ at least I can faithfully pick the 4U Pro over the Kinera Idun for their sound but ehh... With all that said it would appear as though one IEM at an affordable price is in line with the kind of tuning I like and a tone/timbre quality to compliment the tuning. Won't say what it is as to not jinx myself but it's obviously not something from Truthear, not even the Hexa.
@cen4247 Жыл бұрын
Hearing this is making me so tempted to buy them right away! The stuff I've had so far have not been very great for rock and metal
@greatestali3 Жыл бұрын
@@cen4247 yup, as long as a pair of iems has good technical performance then it's all about the tuning to make it play rock and metal well. I would say to go for the hexa by truthear instead... But you'd have to tune those hard to figure out how they perform. I'm going to get another pair of hexas and tune them to the Reds profile and see how they perform in a month or so
@c0ldshock927 Жыл бұрын
@@greatestali3So you'd recommend the hexa over the regular zero? Been looking to replace my Arias
@greatestali3 Жыл бұрын
@@c0ldshock927 depends on the music you listen to and your preference! Hexa is more detailed in the mids and treble, something I like a lot for metal and rock music. It still has good bass and good details in bass and sub-bass. The zero is more detailed in the bass and sub-bass. From what I understand, the detail resolution is not something that can be changed much with EQ. For that reason I would go with hexa, sacrificing some bass and sub-bass detail for more detail on mids and treble. Something I think matters more for rock and metal genres.

Each of them occupies a different price point and has a different tuning and different drivers. It makes little sense to compare them really. 9:49 Disadvantages of impedance adapters: - You can't use it with a TWS/neckband Bluetooth adapter, which is a sensible scenario for a sub-100$ all-rounder IEM. - It gets in the way, making the cable bulkier, and can be misplaced and lost. Unless they sell them separately, it will be bothersome to replace. That said, all of Crin's point are perfectly valid. At this price point, it makes sense to not add the price of over-engineering, and fewer failure points is better just based on how many QC issues budget IEMs already have. It's just a choice, and yeah, even if this renders Project Red not as "exciting", it makes sense.

One main issue I have with the zero, hexa and now the zero red is that the cable does not have a mic. It would be a blind buy for me if it had a mic, but without one, I have to invest in another cable, which I'd rather not cause broke student.

Yeah lol its stupid big. But that's the price you pay for it being cheap with such a tuning.

Different tuning, different color, with an accessory for a higher cost. Doesn't read as better. Just different.

How does this compare with the 7Hz Zero?
@matiaserp Жыл бұрын
VERY close, Red has a tiny bit more bass and more even treble around 9 kHz.

@Matias R so I guess it's not worth upgrading and paying almost 2X

Got mine today. For the price, I give them 11 out of 10. I mostly listen to classical, predominantly renaissance choral and for this they are superb. I use a Dragonfly Black 1.5 DAC and mostly FLAC files.

Wonder now if the bandwagon iem community will copy your opinion on Harman lol. Everyone on this community specially on Reddit follows one popular opinion and pushes it like those rat trains you see on farms. I hate this community so much easily one of the worst hobbies I've been to. Sorry for the mini rant great video

Uhm no one's likes Harman IE Target... Most IEMs follow the IEF Neutral Target already

I expect the Reds tuning style to be copied in the coming years, just like Harman was during the last few years.

@Mishael_Agyei-Boamah Жыл бұрын
Did you not hear different voice coiling, circuitry for better distortion and a much closer to less shouty mids? Or you just skimmed the whole video?
@pisderata Жыл бұрын
@@Mishael_Agyei-Boamah One of the big problems was the big nozzle, why do you think they didn't change the shell? come on. The end product is a side grade litterally even said it by him, the overall perfomance will improve yes but not enough to be a benchmark. Hexa for 20$ more is way better. People usually stay in the sub 30$ or jump to the near 100$, in between is hard to sell it
@Mishael_Agyei-Boamah Жыл бұрын
@@pisderata well not everyone will have money extra to get the Hexa and I'm sure some will like the much cleaner ear gain glide on the Red than the Hexa's narrow 3kHz peak. Bass is better on the Red too so going around saying another headphone is better but it is $20 more is funny to me cos no one wants a recommend outside their budget...
@pisderata Жыл бұрын
@@Mishael_Agyei-Boamah when u are on a tight budget you stay on the sub 30$ bracket or even less, if you are on a budget but can afford near 100$ then is easy what I say, if the 55$ iem is going to be the only buy for like 2 years then it has more sense saying ok i spend 25 more so im really satisfied and no fear of a better iem costim half the price

Just want to drop by after buying this through Shenzen from someone in the Philippines Only took 5 days to arrive at my doorstep. As for the IEM, this literally is a great buy both for the sound quality and aesthetics up close and personal
@VioletGiraffe Жыл бұрын
I love the blue version and will 100% buy the Red. I've already sold my Sennheiser HD800 and will probably sell Hifiman HE-400 - the Zero is just that much better. At $50!!! ($37 on a sale, even).
