I have always dreamed of making roller blades more dangerous.
@sueastside
@sueastside Жыл бұрын
I had that dream and implemented it! I took of the wheels and added sharp blades, instead of doing it on the road I would do it on frozen lakes and rivers. So any wrong move and you would cut an artery and bleed to death or go through the ice and die of hypothermia.

this video is super sick! i love channels that make videos like this and i was incredibly surprised to see this was your first considering the script, editing, visuals, etc. were all high quality. i think you could reach more people if you make it clear that you MADE the rollerblades in the thumbnail or title. i'm not sure how much you care about the numbers, but i'd love to see a channel like this grow. This video is great, pretty impressive! I like how you explain everything really well and excited to see the things you build as your channel progresses. I always thought it would be cool if someone were to build some type of basic "any user" friendly electric platform that could be applied on more than one application. For example, lets say one day you want to ride and electric skateboard/longboard, next you wanted to ride and electric scooter or maybe mount to a bicycle for a little power assistance. Some how have a system could easily switch to these types of applications with only minimal mods needing to be done. I think it would be cool to see the different things users would come up with. Subscribed, Look forward to seeing more of these videos! Keep up the good work dude!

@@collinbardini i was considering making the plates for the motor core myself in a makerspace near me, but none of them have the capability to cut metal. then I thought about getting a local cnc shop to cut them for me but I couldn't justify the cost for multiple prototype runs. i love the chain solution, but I feel like its not as freeing as hub motors might be for something commercial. i also hate the noise, one of the things I like about blading is its quiet. still, great vid!

when I first entered the world of electric scooters I didnt know anything about the different types of motors and the balancing of wattage and voltage after building a couple scooters out of parts I had Im more seasoned you can say it still amazes me the options had a gas scooter who's motor was completely ruined stripped it down to the frame got the specific dimensions needed to weld on a plate for the 1000 watt magnet motor I had screwed in a heavy duty tote to rack on the back where I ran the controller and battery geared up the motor sprocket and voila 36v 1000 watt 20 amph it was fun can't wait to do another

Very cool. You could use load cells between the wheel frames and the boot so they would operate like a self balancing hoverboard or unicycle. Leaning forward would increase speed in an attempt to centralize your weight. However this would drastically mess up your normal skate stride and require your legs to be side by side. Perhaps a throttle that detects the side load during your normal skating stride would work. So side load on the right skate would throttle the left skate faster. Seems like it would amplify your natural stride.
@collinbardini
@collinbardini Жыл бұрын
Good idea, Dan! I did attempt using load cells to detect if the skates were on the ground, but my frame was too rigid to get any reading out of them. I think they are still possible, but it would require a redesign of the skate frames. My plan going forward is to read the motor current and speed to detect if the user is pushing and if there is no load on the wheels. Thanks for the comment!

Either way, i just thought I’d throw that out there in case anyone else thought similarly.

They look a lot better and go twice as fast as a brand that I've seen available that makes electric skates (frame attachment). Well done! I'm really excited to see how this technology progresses over the years. I'd love it if by the time I'm too old to skate much if I could have some electric skates which weighed the same and also looked the same. Maybe if we get bearing size hub motors and solid state batteries we could have electric skates that are completely indistinguishable from non electric skates like we sort of have with bikes

Great video and project Collin - very inspiring - I rollerblade myself for fitness and now an avid EUC rider - have always wondered if dual wheels side by side (so 4 instead of 2) would be possible and what type of stability that would provide. Many a time I've hit unseen pebbles and have nearly wiped out and thought if a 4 wheel config would work .. not the old style wide skate with 4 wheels ... but a slimmer ver for inline skates ... just a thought.

Very cool! Have you tried looking into power tool, li-ion batteries considering how light weight they are? They also have a nice convenient holding slot you're probably able to utilize in using to attach them to each skate perhaps. And also by utilizing the slot of the batteries, you're then able to switch them out when the batteries die out on you on long trips. You'd probably want to try adding solar panels to charge the batteries as you go on top of your helmet as well, that way on sunny days you'll not need to carry with you extra batteries.

Totally cool design...would be interested in the files. My thought in regards to one rollerblade taking off when lifted would be possibly having a ground disconnect/microswitch under your heel which cuts power to the blade when raised... also id use a single dual motor controller... the advantage to 1bms vs 2 is you can have higher voltage and amp as well as weight savings...

Very impressed by your skills and ingenuity. A company used to produce gas powered rollerblades that I believe could hit over 30mph. I've hit over 40mph downhill skating many times (GPS confirmed)

Add a fail safe. Radio interference can send you flying and hurting you or kill you. Very simple and nicely done 👍🏼 Elbows and Knee protection recommended as well. Millions have learn this the hard way having to live the rest of their lives in pain.

Thanks for the comment! A fail safe on the remotes/controller was one of the first things I added because you are 100% correct that you can end up in some very bad situations. One of the precautions that I have been taking is never going faster than what I can handle on normal skates. I usually brake a lot going down hill for example. Elbow and knee protection are definitely recommended and I will be purchasing some soon.

Excellent platform flying eagles are. Good solid choice for this project.

A thought, adding those spring loaded retractable spoolers to take up any slack in the power cable? It would help getting your cables safe while at any height (crouched to standing). This might add extra strain on the connectors on the boot. Also, polyurethane on a leaf spring to take up any slack in the chain might reduce the noise of chain meshing loosely with teeth.

Love the idea! I have just been rolling up the slack in the fanny pack for now

I'd love to have a pair of those. I've been looking for a powered skates solution for years...

Pretty dope, nicely packaged for a one-off. Long shot from the fastest though, seen a few now getting over the 60mph mark, and if you want to count Buggyrollin', a fair bit faster.

Thanks, Mason. Do you happen to have the name of the electric roller-skates that can hit 60mph?
