Ok everyone. You wanna know Nick's "secret" to making fast beats? I'll share the sauce with you now even though if you pay attention you'll see. 1. He knows all (or most) of the hot keys. 2. He doesn't spend hours mixing. Which you shouldn't have to do if you pick good sounds and level right. 3. He doesn't procrastinate while he's working. 4. Practice There you go. Mixing was my biggest issue when I started a few months ago. Ever since I stopped putting so much thought into mixing and focused more on picking good sounds, my beats got better. Do whatever comes natural to you and let it be. If it sounds good there's nothing to fix. Unless your sound shaping (which should be done premix) or you find a problem with things clashing together, there's no reason to spend any time mixing. Export, test it on various devices, and if it sounds good, move onto the next one. If you can't make your mix sound good with a little eq, pick a different sound. If you still can't get it to sound good, throw it in a folder of things to revisit at a later date. You never know. You may be able to use some of it on another project or you may be able to fix it with fresh ears. You can't fix a bad mix, but you can make a good mix better. Understand what you're doing and why you're doing it. Don't just do things by habit. Not every track needs a high and lowpass filter. Especially not with FLs stock eq.
