I May Not Come Back to This Thrift Store Again | Thrift With Me at Savers
Savers is doing it again! They have started to raise their prices back out of where resellers can make a profit. This will lose them business. I may not come back to this thrift store again if Savers continues this trend.

Exactly. Those are not thrift store prices. If I wanted to pay full price I would go to an actual retail store to do so. That’s just them getting very greedy and losing sight of what thriftiness is.

Even Goodwill is really raising their prices. I saw about 10 odd and end cobalt blue pieces, nothing fancy, just vases and bottles and they all had $25 on them! I thought my glasses were playing tricks on me! Without resellers, thrift stores would never do the volume they do and there would be so much waste.

I work in retail,at a grocery store. Unfortunately the prices have gone up substantially..it's just insane. Everyone is raising their prices. You can't get around it. I'm not reseller so I will pay the prices,IF it's something I really want. But at the same time I won't pay a price that's the same as brand new..and Goodwill and Value Village are both guilty of that. I can't get past what they charge for cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged goods. It's rediculous.

New goods such as at a grocery store do see an increase due to transportation costs... thrift stores get donations dropped off - their cost of goods has not increased so no need to raise prices.

I used to love the Savers in Chandler Arizona but their prices went up so high that when I go back to visit the area I'm just appalled at how much they want to charge. Once in awhile they have a 50% off sale and then it can be manageable but otherwise you can hardly pay the prices for yourself much less for resale.

Wow! The prices did go much higher from the previous video at that location. Our Savers tend to have insane pricing as well, and I'm not a reseller, but do like a good bargain on some vintage items and it's good to keep things out of the landfill. However, sometimes I get a good bargain, but fake designer at close to retail pre-owned prices is annoying, as are prices the same at retail, I'm looking at you IKEA merchandise, and re-used boxes like a set or Riedel glasses for $29.99 Admittedly, I was excited for 6 Riedel glasses for $29.99, and they had 12 of white and red, but when I opened the box to check, they were dollar store quality glass, not worth $6/box for pre-owned. I brought that to the manager's attention, and she said that she would fix it, and they were just taped up even more and back on the shelf the next time I stopped by -- not cool. It looks like you and Jordan had some fun, and will have even more in California. Yermo is calling... Safe travels, and thanks for another great video!

What makes me so crazy about savers is that they are for profit, they take the free things you donate and sell them for a profit giving very little of anything to any charity. So their raising prices I won’t pay. Now goodwills etc that are nonprofit and actually do give back to our communities I don’t mind paying up on some things.

I thought Savers is affiliated with Easter Seals. Trust me GW is for profit that "Roundup cash" is paid by the customers! Genius! Other thrift stores employ people with disabilities.
@MissShellsFunFinds

@@janinejensen583 the website for the savers near me says it does not benefit any non profit. Who knows. As far as rounding up I just don’t. However goodwill has local furniture repair and vocational shops around that hire people with disabilities and also provides vocational education. On top of some employees that are hired for their retail locations and donation centers. Maybe it’s different everywhere I don’t know.

I guess it's like you always remind us...like eBay, Savers is a business and they have to do what helps their business the most. Maybe they have plenty of customers who are not resellers that are okay with paying those prices. Selling items at low prices to resellers who will profit 2x-3x or more doesn't do anything for their bottom line.

I am not whining, I am making an observation and then a business decision based on that observation. Thrift stores need resellers! They always have and Ebay was a great thing for them! We are at least 25% of their business you can't just cut off that amount of your customers and expect to do well.

And the thrifts who are genuine charity shops??? Does the Niche person want to criticise them to for wanting to generate enough money to cover the store running costs and MAKE MONEY FOR THEIR REAL WORK. I would have bought that “made in China” faceted vase because it was pretty and appears quality. But if I was trying to resell would market it as “Chinese art glass” because there are high end and vintage/antiques from China. I haven’t sold anything yet, but as a buyer it would for sure make a huge difference. In fact I didn’t want to seem silly for my comment so I popped over and googled “Chinese art glass” and I was shocked! Especially paper weights that up in hundreds and even over a thousand. And that just gave me an Amazing epiphany! Everybody just needs to find a market/ niche that the stores don’t know about yet and aren’t marking up. I just went to our local Hope Chest bought a lamp that I thought was overpriced at $20 because it said made in China, but after like two hour of research only could find two similar for over $120 and $180. The one for $180 was very close to mine but it was damaged! My guy calls me the research queen. Lol. I’m not reselling it because I love it and so did he to let me get it after buying 3 lamps this weekend.😂

Remember that you have to pay yourself for that research time... Reselling vintage items is a LOT of actual brain work, which too many resellers skimp on doing. I sell on Etsy and see other shops have little to no info on their items. And they wonder why they get bad reviews...they LIED about age, size and pertinent information!!!

Goodwill Corporate Colorado has decided that ALL 10lb bags of jewelry should be $99. Statewide. 5lbs is $50. Sentiment is that they want to make resellers pay more for watch bands and plastic beads. One store puts the jewelry in opaque bags so that you can't even see what you are buying. Doesn't seem fair. I took a leap and bought one at a different store and it ended up being 30% broken watch bands. It's getting ridiculous.

I isn’t just resellers that are turned off by the high prices. When you are looking for a bargen you don’t want to pay full price.

So nice you have mother/daughter time doing something fun together. I cherished shopping outings with my mom. Outrageous prices no doubt. Fun fact: the Finnish Arabia piece is pronounced ‘R-ah-bee-ah’ 🇫🇮

The item at the 34:40 point in the video is an electric bread warmer, probably from the 1950s to 1970s. I actually have one.

I don't have Savers where I live. But my Goodwill is awesome. I found a genuine Michael Kors for $5.99! It resales on sites for 100.

The electrical warmer you didn’t know what it was (34:51) , a bread warmer for rolls. On the table or buffet ... the cord may have been on the shelf beside it. I remember my aunt had two she used at Thanksgiving dinner !

Savers bought Unique Thrift here in Chicago. It was one of my best sources but lately, forget it. If I walk out with 1 or 2 things that's it. I was going to start by pulling a Nurse Flipper and pick up some hand made doilies, etc...but even that's starting to get expensive. By the way, my Ebay store is opening up come July. Woohoo.
