I met ROMA GYPSIES in Bulgaria - Who are they?

The true story behind the most mysterious and hated community in Europe...
In this video, I meet a Roma community member and talk about the conditions of Roma people in modern day Europe and how they have been stigmatized and marginalized for ages for their nomadic past, arguable origins, distinct language, looks and traditions and unconventional lifestyle. I try to discover the facts around their origins - a widely accepted fact that these people migrated from Western India (present day, Punjab, Sindh and Rajasthan several hundreds of years ago. There is strong similarity in their language, beliefs, traditional music, dance and ceremonies with that from Northern and Western India. Yet the Indian government doesn't accept them officially as a diaspora and the average Indian is completely unaware of their existence and traumatic past. Meanwhile, the European govts. tend to view them as outcasts and criminals and they face discrimination and disdain because of their physical features and economic status.
This an interview style documentary, my first attempt at anything like this. Hope you enjoy the effort and get to know something new about the world through this video shot as a part of Bulgaria Travelogue Series at Akshat Discovers The World.
It was shot in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria and the aim is purely educational, in order to raise the awareness around the Roma community - their past, their culture and their struggles. What is your opinion, could they have actually come all the way from India thousands of years ago?

The Roma Sinti people are originally from India.They are actually Hindus/Hindava Sanathan Dharna religious system prctitioners.They were not converted into Christianity nor Judaism.They were treated as outcastes in Europe.Only after 1979 when they started The World Romany/Romani alliance movement did they become recognised by U.N.O.

Indian subcontinent has existed long before Alexander, does that mean Hindi too has existed ever since the civilization first appeared in the Indian subcontinent? Languages keep evolving. Dogri and Kashmiri belong to group of languages called Indo-Aryan languages and have similarities with Pashto. At one point of time, Sanskrit was too spoken in the region of Kashmir, in fact, Vedas are believed to have been written in Kashmir itself. The constant conquest of Kashmir between Sikh Empire of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Afghan Durrani Empire of Ahmed Shah Abdali also changed the linguistic mix in the Kashmir region much later and Kashmiri specifically draws from Punjabi as well.

@@zejneb1 I apologize if I hurt any feelings, as you mentioned the documentary clearly indicates that the wholehearted intention is to bring attention to the issue and definitely cast a positive light on the community. The title is deliberately kept so in order to hit on the exact negative bias that has been deliberately created by the western media and the effort is to answer the question raised in the title in a positive way by the end the video finishes. I appreciate that you are able to see and understand my intention despite probably not understanding the (Hindi) language used as the medium of the video. I would be grateful that since I don't consider the community any different from any of the other Indian Diaspora communities abroad let me use my artistic freedom to bring in more attention to the issue. I really hope that it reaches someone in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The key objective that I wish to pursue through this video for the Roma community - 1. Formal research and recognition into their migration 2. Some kind of diplomatic support from the Indian missions abroad via the Govt of India to counter the negative portrayal in the western media and to help allevaite the economic conditions of the community by championing more economic, educational and social inclusion in Europe. I have found, through my interactions with Roma people I have met, that lack of recognition and aleniation for them is almost as big a pain for them as is the discrimination and stereotyping. And that's what I have tried to approach with this documentary. I will be grateful if you can reach me via Instagram and connect me with other Roma folks, I would like to interview them and make another follow up documentary to cover more aspects. I tried contacting some of the Roma Organizations and some researchers in Bulgaria who have worked on Roma history and their economic aleniation in Europe but they declined to be interviewed. I am grateful that a simple cleaner was more forthcoming than them. It helped me portray that they would do much rather do manual work in lieu of the opportunity but not take up any crime and have no animosity towarda their adopted homeland despite all the bias they face against themselves from their countrymen. I even tried to hire a Bulgarian cameraman to go into the Roma neighbourhood who first tried to charge me an enormous amount and then declined last moment all together citing random bullshit "security concerns". If you can help, I would be ven wish to venture in the neighbourhoods and communicate with people via you and showcase their life, thought process and how their traditions and customs are similar to ours in India.

If Hindi language is taught to Roma or Gypsy children, they can learn our customs, festivals. This will help them to understand each other. You can see Indian origin migrated before 200 years, in Guyana, Africa, Fiji , Trinidad, Jamaica, Surinam but Indian culture, temples, festivals are seen nicely.

Because they did not migrate from just the present region of Sindh but also from the present day territories of Rajasthan and Punjab (both Indian and Pakistani part). Remember that the national boundaries were different back then and even the regional identities and spread of communities across regions have changed over time and the most difficult part is that there is no clear written record of what was the common thread between all those who are today losely termed as "Sintis".

I’m a Roma and you know we have many different tribes Not just Roma tribes we have .. but it’s the calè tribe who came from Rajasthan those live in Spain 🇪🇸 .. all of our Roma tribes came from northern India Punjab state we were part of the Hindu military our king was a rayput king we the Roma and calè from Rajasthan were taken by the ghaznavi’s as slaves they wiped us out in the every way of the sense With our entire history and stolen us from our lands 10th century .. the domari ghawazee came from somewhere south India and the Sinti from Pakistan region those left in the 5th century on their own duo to brutal wars they lands were destroyed so they run out of their for they life’s into neighbouring countries ..
