Nice try Richard, if that is your really name. That sounds like something Redington would say... And you can clearly watch it snap coming out of the water when I set the hook on that giant fish. I once uprooted a 150 year old oak tree with my Echo Carbon XL.

@@RoadandReel If you hooked that giant fish, where is it? At 2.33 you are winding in slack on your reel (why?) and the line is floating towards you. At 2.34 the line is still drifting towards you but you pull so hard to the left you broke your rod.

I own 4 classic trout fly rods. Love them. They are just fun to cast with the slower action as compared to most rods on the market. I think they are a tremendous value for the money. However I look at them as disposable in the sense that they are so inexpensive to purchase vs messing around with packaging, shipping, waiting, etc...Buy another one or two and keep fishing. Thanks for the video.

Yeah, this is a good mindset. They are a great rod for the money and I've seen them used for under $100. I might just buy a few used ones and use my old ones for spare sections. I don't want to be wasteful, but it's hard to fish without a rod. Thanks for the insight!

Ah this explains a lot, when people say they broke a rod "just setting the hook on a fish" they really mean they set the hook too hard, the line flew behind them and they hooked a tree and the rod broke because they tried to cast while hung up in a tree. Genuinely thank you, I've always wondered how reviews on rods vary so much 1 person says theyve caught 1000lb fish on it and the next says it broke while casting I see now.

Happy to help! And to be fair, it's not about the rod breaking. It's about the customer service. It took 1 year to get that rod replaced. My fishing habits and tree snags haven't changed and I've never broken any other rod besides my Redingtons. I own 22 fly rods and I've broken 4 Redingtons. Take that for what it's worth or don't. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment. They both help grow this channel.

@@RoadandReel I am taking it into account, the first part of my comment may have been sarcastic but I really did mean the thank you for this information. Was just about to pull the trigger on a reddington field kit but because of your video along with others I've researched some other brands feel like reddington might not really be what it seems, their warranty is basically a bait, while other companies are no questions asked just send us $30. I do see a lot of reviews on stores (for conventional gear) that just shock me when they say they broke the rod on 1 fish or "Casting" but ive fished with the same gear for years. Starting to get into fly fishing now, living in colorado its kind of hard not to, I've started to stray towards a cheap combo just to learn and get comfy so I dont tear up something nice then upgrade when I feel experienced in fly casting. Its hard when you grew up in TX and knew hundreds of anglers but not a single fly angler. Might start with a wild water combo with the CNC 85mm reel its only $135 probably good enough to learn

I had a similar problem with a Daiwa spinning rod. It took quite a few months (Covid & issues with ships and the shipping industry) pushed me outside of the warranty but after some pleading I got a fair replacement price. 🤷🏼‍♂️A little disheartening but could’ve been worse. Oh, apparently they do some expert Analysis of the actual break to see what happened. But but that was irrelevant due to time.
