I mean, wouldn't a live spectator/referee solve that issue? Like they can call the equivalent of a "personal foul" where the exact wording of the rule is not important because the final say on rulings is at the discretion of the official. If they notice targeting for the sake of actual griefing, not just to try and win, they make the judgment call. Competitive integrity and all that.

Hey Boxbox love the videos. For the griefing issue, why not something like they do in international football? Like the get a panel of like 5 judges each from a different country to review the griefing. Then essentially if someone appeals due to griefing, they then review the case and rule on whether it's a fair griefing or not. From there they need to specify what is considered fair griefing - obviously hard if someone starts "forcing" a build of an opponent but maybe they take headliners or chosen into account and say "oh this person got it on the first roll not griefing" "oh this person did not pick a chosen for 16 rounds and then started it". Then from there they can kinda ban from tournaments etc. Also they could do something like make the the appeal process kinda expensive where if it was a reasonable appeal then they get the money returned otherwise they forfeit the appeal fee?

I do agree with you that you can't make a set of subjective rules to stop greifing. However riot really only needs to stop greifing in tournament play therefore you can use subjective rules. You could have a judge/spotter make the calls. If someone's just going to a specific board and greifing them for no benefit to themselves, they are just banned for the rest of this sets and next sets tourney

I think the ruling method should be fairly obvious. If you're griefing another player for the sake of improving your own rank, it's a FFA, that's not necessarily against the rules. But if you're griefing someone at the expense or your own rank, that's nonsensical, unsportsmanlike, and not in the spirit of the game. Of course, it's not going to be easy to tell the difference in lower ranks, due to lack of game knowledge, but in the top 1% of lobbies, it'll be pretty damn easy to pick out.
