Back when we could play the game RIGHT OFF THE DISC, not have to install a 300GB file for a incomplete, buggy game. COD4 was only 7.3 GB I think if you install to hard drive. The reason why these older games still hold up to today? The simplicity. Simplicity is always a formula to success. Even MW2 with the extra stuff added in, the core gameplay was simple. Reason why newer games struggle to succeed, they try to make it too complex and realism in every game. Gaming used to be an art and creative caring about the gamers and the community. Now it’s all business and pleasing share holders

I was in the 4th grade and got my first Xbox 360 for my 9th birthday. This was the first call of duty I ever played and I truly cannot grasp how fantastic and ENDLESS that time felt. I never got Waw, so I played Cod4 for almost 2 years before MW2 came out. Truly a time to be alive. the maps, the gun sounds, the hauntingly beautiful music in the background. pure bliss.

But now when i come back to these games that i loved the most, i just seem to not be able to enjoy them like i used to. The biggest contrast I notice between newer games and older games is the ridiculous movement. Modern CODS you have unlimited sprint, its way faster, and you can slide everywhere. In older games it was limited and much slower and required more tactical approaches to fights. COD4 through B02 where the golden era of CODS.

CoD4 was the first online game i ever played... i was 9 years old and my moms boyfriend at the time (now step-dad) had an Xbox 360 and he taught me how the 360 worked and how to play CoD4... i still to this day play CoD4 but on PC and usually pro-mod or CJ. COD 4 is the Godfather of the COD franchise, it saved the series from WW2 COD games because people were getting uninterested, and this game definitely became revolutionary with the multiplayer and campaign, and streaks and perks, and even this game won Game Of The Year 2007.

In the era before stealth mods we got our 360 banned from XBL so I had to play COD4 online on the Wii. It was actually a solid port. Everything that made COD great was there on the Wii. It was also extremely popular on the Wii, full lobbies. Black Ops 1 the same. That's were it stopped though MW2 skipped the Wii and after only a few weeks of MW3 on the Wii there wasn't anyone playing MW3. Where are mein fellow 'Wiiers'?

Thankfully CoD4 on PC (CoD4x) is still alive (despite the Xlabs shutdown in 2023) with fun servers up today. Unlike the console versions, the PC version has mod support, with modded servers operating (like the Star Wars Frontlines server played by Fortunate in 2020).

Back then you would pay 25-30 euros/dollars or whatever and you would get a complete and polished game, you would go home, place the disc in the PS3/XBOX 360 and play. No frame drops, no bugs that needed to be fixed, no unnecessary updates, no microtransactions, not anything. You were guaranteed nothing but a fun time. Today, you pay 85-90 euros/dollars for an unfinished product that has the sole purpose of bringing money back to the publishers. Greed has taken over the soul that was used back then to create those beautiful games. Those were simpler times. Better times.

Nothing will ever touch this game in it's prime. The intensity of being the last dude alive on your SnD squad, with all your buddies spectating you, it just isn't the same anymore. Winning a hard-fought TDM, dom, or HQ and then going back into the lobby for some true OG shit-talking. Kids these days don't even know the real meaning of COD lobby. No crazy OP guns or attachments (other than M16 which everyone could use) or pay to play crap, no spazzy movements or sliding all over the place, literally just all about your sense of the gameflow and skill with the sticks. Sucks that we won't ever get it back
