Growing up and not having much money we learned a lesson. After church, we invited the pastor to have Sunday Lunch. The following week, he invited himself. The folling week, the same thing happened. Without much money, we couldn't afford this. My mother decided to stop having meat on Sunday. On the third Sunday without the meat, he stopped coming. He got the hint without anyone saying a word.

The cashiers have no way of knowing this. It’s an automatic process and the money is not taken direct from the tills. I speak for 30 years experience as a retail manager. Even the cash office has nothing to do with this process. We only bank the charity tub money and it’s tracked to within an inch of its life. In retail money is very heavily monitored and scams and theft would be the easiest thing to prosecute over, there is evidence down to the last 1p.

My father worked in a department store before serving in WWII. He was spoken to by the menswear department manager one day when he had not worn a hat on the way to work and had been recognised on the tram. It was explained to Dad that, although it was not his department, his own job as well as those of all his friends and co-workers depended on the shop selling hats to gentlemen. If he did not wear a hat at all times in public, how could his friends in menswear honestly assure customers that it was definitely the “done thing” and “every gentleman wears a hat”? Needless to say, Dad never again went hatless until after the war when many with war service were given trade apprenticeships by the government. It was not only at work that a certain a dress code was required back in those days, it was obviously also all your working week. Always a pleasure Neil, don't stop being yourself, we love to hear whatever you care to share.

I'm a nurse and it is intentional to keep patients confused by the staff. They think they feel more secure but also it saves the provider money to use non-professional medical personnel (not that many aren't quite good. It is nothing against them. They are doing what their employer tells them to do.) And be very careful giving any personal info to the desk staff in front of a waiting room of patients. Ask for paper and write down the info and hand it to the person. They probably won't like it but it's your personal safety and information. Hope you feel better with the tablets. Your illness is certainly hanging on. All the best to you. As always love your ties and I'm waving.

Upon arriving at the hospital about an hour later I found out I had sepsis. Drs receptionist can be the gateway to lifesaving services too. Your rant may be a release valve. We all are inconvenienced by the lower standards in today's society. In Neiman Marcus department store ( luxury USA store) when I modeled there years ago, the staff wore mandatory black with smart hairstyles and shoes. Now, as you say the shoppers cannot tell who is staff, vendors or customers. I feel like I have to send up a flare to find a staff person to ring up the sale. It is frustrating. Perhaps if the big brands receive enough feedback that the public wants smartly dressed available staff it will force the department stores to restore their dress codes. The men do not even wear socks, with their man buns. The women are wearing skin tight clothing that leaves nothing to the imagination. As a designer I am frequently in the stores. Customers tell me regularly that they are talking to me because of how I am dressed. Like you, I'm tired of being silent with regards to poor service, no dress codes and poor manners. We are all in this life together. Truly, thank you for dressing up and showing up each day. It takes courage! Cheering for you.

@@BonnieHaynes-gg4nk Or bleeding. Several years ago on a very hot Sunday afternoon, my husband had a nosebleed. It stopped and started several times. I was worried, he was not, but I insisted and drove him to the ER. He wasn't bleeding at the time, so they took his info, checked his blood pressure, looked at his history on the computer, rolled their eyes, handed him a box of tissues and sent us out to the waiting room. After about twenty minutes his nose bled again and he dashed to the nearby restroom just as it gushed. I ran to reception, knocked on the glass partition and shouted "Help! my husband is bleeding in the restroom!" He did make a right mess of their tidy white restroom. They rushed him into the ER and the doctors tended to him. The reason for the bleed was never determined by his GP, or repeated...but that got their attention.😉

I was once having to give details to a receptionist. Gave her my DOB etc & said it was for a diabetic check. After a few mins she said was it about my breathing difficulties ? No, I don't have a problem, I had a diabetic issue, oh she said I can't find that on your record. I told her some of the medications I took, I haven't got those listed she said. She then went off to find someone, another lady came with & told her she had the wrong record on screen. So she closed that down & had to ask my DOB again.

Good Morning Neil ....lets have a wave to cheer ourselves up 👋👋👋. Your input today made me want to weep because it hit the nail on the head so hard it drove it through the coffin totally!!! I was just thinking back to my childhood and early adulthood last night and remembering the days our FAMILY General Practitioner would come to us when we were sick...no spreading germs around packed waiting rooms then! He didn't have to be told our family history he knew it because he'd watched us all grow up. And.....If we weren't much better after the first course of treatment we were given another, different one to drive the bugs out. Of course, I do belong to the era where the Doctor would decide a Penicillin injection was warranted and instruct the nurse to "get her ready" (as though one was about to go out somewhere!), then he'd go out the back room and RUSH back shaking a glass syringe (to stop the solution separating) then bung the jackhammer sized needle into a nervous buttock and plunge the 'magic potion' into a quivering muscle!! Ahhhh.......those were the days we died of genuine old age, not medical neglect or misadventure. I also fled a GP practice 15 years ago because I saw him consulting Dr Google about my broncihtis instead of his PIMS (Pharmaceutica Manual) for an appropriate antibiotic!

I accepted her offer with gratitude which involved feats of great skill as she washed my hair while I was lying in the bed and she holding my head over basins of water. When the exercise was complete, she left the room and returned to the room a short time later with a beautiful ribbon which she tied in my hair stating that she thought it might make me feel nice. What is the scence of having a thick folder of your medical history with them if they are asking about previous medical issues.
