I agree. I live in a HK with my family and both of my parents are Nepali. My mother is a single mother and we have no whatsoever communication with my father. When my younger brother’s Nepali passport expired a few years ago, my mom and my brother immediately flew to Nepal to renew it. They tried to apply for both citizenship & passport , I assume. However despite my mom having all the documents proving that she’s a divorcee and the sole guardian of my brother, the passport office still strictly declined to issue the passport saying it can only be done through my father’s signature and presence. I mean wtf is that bullshit logic. If women rights are not even recognised in the most basic field as in the constitution of the country then it surely reflects how the society is perceiving a woman’s value itself. Can’t believe this is still happening in this era. I rather choose not to obtain a Nepali passport than try to ask help from my father. Nepal seriously needs to reform their constitution and consider all family dynamics in the society.

This particular requirement for Nepali passport is so outdated and frustrating. There are various types family units such as single-parent and reconstituted family💗. Nepali law should be amended to accommodate today’s society and dismantle the patriarchal practices.
