As much as I am in awe of his genius, his ability to compose a symphony entirely in his head, knowing each note for each instrument, writing it all down for each of the musicians, I am also saddened at his arrogance. One of the greatest musicians of all time, how does he not realise the singers are music too? In many interviews he behaves like music comes at his beck and call. Music is a gift God has gifted him with. He should acknowledge the music in others. The closest I've heard him praise someone is pandit M Balamuralikrishna.

Well said. In 1980 in a programme in Singapore he praised TMS so much for his expression in singing and said tamil nadu will never have another singer like TMS and it is unfortunate that none of his singers can sing like him. At the same time without SPB his songs would not reached the masses

So called Ilayaraja haters and people with the best character that you can loosely comment on a self made genius, think deeply. Don’t bring your shallow thinking and prejudices here. He is a composer who owns the complete composition of what all instruments, how they should be played, singers how they should sing, the expressions everything. He takes complete responsibility of the outcomes. He is a perfectionist and expects everyone in his team including the singers to be perfectionists. Now coming to the appreciation part, he has seen all kinds of ppl who think low of him due to his birth etc., and dedicated his life to music alone, he experimented with many but chose the best alone to be with him in all his compositions. That is a clear indication of his appreciation for their work. He doesn’t want to indulge in appreciation or getting appreciated. He is more practical and straightforward. Moreover how many of you can sustain friendships in such a creative field where creative differences can easily break relationships. Just see their relationship till the last song SPB sung during COVID. Their friendship is deep with excellent appreciation for each other and has seen the ups and downs of life. So stop commenting about them indulging in mudslinging. Enjoy their creations develop love and not hatred. If anyone spills venom he is not a fan of either

It reflects respect u have to other person A song is collection of extra ordinary talents ( music director, musicians, singers) and should be credited Central govt bestowed Padma award and is appointed as Rajya Sabha MP to Raja sir, is this not an appreciation n acknowledgement of his talent, which he accepted. If u r unable to appreciate your fellow talents, either of below could be a reason: 1) Commercial 2) Jealous 3) Insecurity 4) Materialistic In between, i am a huge fan of Raja sir...

But do you know there are 64 types of people, where each thinks about the other as “how come he is like this”, “why does he behave like this”. That’s the fact, so it is his way of life and principles, and there could be many more reasons than you have written. So when we are not clear give the benefit of the doubt to the legends, we owe a lot to them and the least we could do is respect them and appreciate their creations. @@movielover4900 It is audacious. Madurai Mani Iyer also made Saa re gaa maa paa tunes to Western rhythm and he too got Maestro title. Pandit Ravishankar too got that title. They were humble. Mr Swaminathan who was doing re recording job at Vijaya Studios once told while explaining technical glitches in rerecording that if the singer was versatile like P Susheela (note versatile singer like.....) any glitch gets easily. So we should not undermine one wing while praising other.

Not really because the tune is composed first in most movies and lyricist is asked to fill in later. Also, lyrics are usually not that special in most raja songs (even worse in rahman songs). Overall gaa it feels like telugu lyricists could never really reach the poetic acumen of old bolly lyricists. Most of their lyrics are pretty simple fluff stuff expressed in clever tongue twisters. Its very rare to see a telugu song which actually reads like a story or poem with a structure of thought.

Great Musicians like K.V.Mahadevan, M.S.Vishwanathanan, O.P.Nair, R.D.Burman, and latest A.R.Rahman celebrated SPB songs. Ilayaraja is one of the best. not only the best. there are so many great composers in India. SPB had given soul to every song which was sung by him.

B మరియు జానకి, చిత్ర గారు పాడకుండ ఉన్నట్లయితే మీ పాటలు అంత హిట్ అయ్యేవి కావు. ఒట్టి సంగీతమే కాదు అద్భుతమైన గాత్రం కూడా తోడు అయితేనే మీ పాటలు అంత సక్సెస్ అయింది. అలాంటి గాత్రం SP.B కి మాత్రమే వుంది.మీ సక్సెస్ లో వారు 50% వున్నారు.మీరు గీత రచయిత 50% అయితే మిగతా 50% గాయకులది. ఉదాహరణ కి కృష్ణ గారి సింహాసనం తీసుకోండి. బప్పిలహరి దుమ్ము లేపాడు సంగీత పరంగా.ఆ టైమ్ లో కొత్త గాయకుడు రాజ్ సీతారాం పాడితేనే అంత హిట్ అయ్యాయి ఆ పాటలు. అవే పాటలు SP. Even Anchor also changed his expressions after not appreciating even one singer in his entire career. Ilayaraja garu antey andariki mundu chala ishtam undeydi. But he lost his fans after his attitude towards singers especially with the great legendary singer Balu garu. SPB sir is heart of ilayaraja songs. Without SPB we cant even imagine his tunes.

singers like SPB, Yesudas, Janaki, Chitra, swarnalata were all embellishments on the the crown that is Ilayaraja. Both together look good. But a crown without embellishments also is a crown at the end of the day.
