AMT made a bunch of high gain preamp pedals in the 2010s and they all sound AMAZING. The S2 and SS-30 in particular sound amazing.

@@kingjbone1 I had the O-Bass for a little bit and it pretty nice. Sounded good through my ashdown 4x10 but the EQ on that didn't seem as responsive as the ashdown head. Still nice tone though.

The Dual Rectifier has always been a polarising amp. You either like it's tone or you don't, and neither side is going to be able to convince the other that they're correct! I love them as they were the sound of most Fat Wreck Chords punk albums from the mid nineties onwards, and the guitar sound on Twisted By Design by Strung Out was the tone I chased for years.

I agree with your comments on Rectifiers in general. I like many recordings made with them but when I tried one myself( ok it was mini Rectifier) I struggled to get the satisfying sound out of it. Apparently the controls are very sensitive and require very careful adjustments. Maybe is also a question of a taste( or quite possibly my mediocre playing skills 😀). But when I plug in into my Synergy Soldano it immediately sounds good- just a little adjustments according to which room I play in.

I've never been a big fan of the rectifier like you said for the money it ought to sound kick ass right out of the box! But you have to do a lot of adjusting and put a tube screamer or an overdrive in front. Kind of stupid nowadays. With so many options and amps out there I think this pedal is the cheap way to go to get that sound. But I have Tonex so I can get any amp sound I want! Still a good video I appreciate you going over it and it did sound pretty good. Most of your videos do plus I like the humor. Like I said before it's nice to get up in the morning and watch one of your videos. I watched Ola England at the John petrucci guitar clinic. You ought to check it out. Pretty cool little video. I just got one of these, along with a Solar chug. While I don't exactly hate the Chug, I like the Dual Wreck much more. I personally like the dual rectifier sound cuz modern progressive metal (Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc) is my jam these days. I have tried other distortion/preamps that supposedly have the dual rectifier tone but none really delivered until this one. I have it plugged into the power amp of my Boss Katana Mk2 100 head and 212 cab, and it gives me that tight but fat bottom end that I want. I have yet to get that with the Chug and the Chug was much more $$$.

Amp sims always seem to lose in the "feel" department. You can often dial in _a_ tone. But amps don't just have _a_ tone, they have _tones_ . Multiple tones, and the _transition_ from one tone to the next to consider.

I was considering getting a real rectifier maybe, sort of or the collection. Certainly wouldn't buy that pedal. Nowadays every multi-effects unit features rectifier modeling, so I don't get the point of buying a single pedal that does just one amp. And perhaps even requires an additional EQ pedal to make it sound right. At this point of time real amps have only disadvantages compared to digital modeling, except one thing: real amps are cooler... well... they are getting quite warm so you can use it for heating your room. Anyway... The concept of "one amp in one pedal" doesn't really add up. It combines the disadvantages of a Multi-effects unit (less cool) with those of real amps (almost everything else). They should add it to the Plethora X3 and X5, I guess that would make sense.

Doesn’t sound as close nor good as a Dual Rectifier found in other modellers/pedals, way to much fizz/fuzz in the gain stages. Also bit useless with DI and Amp OUT not having unison volume. I don’t quite understand why Henning doesn’t like a real Dual Rectifier, through the same cab/speakers it can sound like an SLO100 and 5150 with a tiny difference in gain clipping, but sure, on their outher edges of their EQ’s they really sound different.
