The history of the Mercurial series has been well documented by Nike, with many of them coming back in colorway tributes, and sometimes even partial remakes. With that said, there are a few models that have been more or less forgotten. Or so I thought.
In today's video we take a closer look at the special edition Air Zoom Retro Nike Mercurial Vapor 15 Elite, a tribute to the 2001 Alpha Project Air Zoom Mercurial VT! In my opinion, one of the ugliest Mercurial models ever, but one that has been historically significant again, in that it was the first Mercurial model to feature Air Zoom technology, which 21 years later is now the flagship tech in Nike's latest Mercurial model! I go over all of the unique details of these special football boots and talk about how not all "new" technologies are actually new. These cleats have a very nice looking color scheme and the foot bed feels amazing but the upper is so thin and slippery. If Nike can just use the Tiempo upper on the air zoom with this color scheme, it would be the perfect cleat.

They look great, a cool throwback that made me think of Cristiano, Ronaldo, Zlatan and many others. But most merc wearers are kids, they were not even alive to appreciate this boot's beauty or significance. Much too late of a release from nike, same with their vapor xiii homage to the vapor v, most kids had never even seen the ogs.

Do you have any advice to get the insole to not slide when putting the boots on feet? The air zoom pods don’t hold it securely in place. I hate they went away from the locked in anatomical sole plate.

Hey Josh, sorry for repeating the comment but I've noticed that I can't seem to find the Nike Tiempo Legend Academy in AG variations and the only ones that I find are FG/MG which just seems like the usual FG stud pattern lol. I got some Mercurial Vapor 15 Academy in AG studs but I'm not enjoying them all that much. Would you recommend still going for the FG/MG? I never play in real grass, hence why I was avoiding them as it seemed kind of a gimmick from Nike.

At the time of writing Nike does not sell any AG product within the US. Weird I know I used to have a pair of Vapor 9 AG I bought from Nikestore US, but at this point in time they only exist in EU etc. It's tough because of the new restrictions w shipping Nike from EU -> US. But Unisport shipped a pair of Tiempo Italy Montebelluna - AG the other day even though it's lowkey against the rules lol. Try eBay for AG
