*Critiques of Nngannou, Fury, or AJ - need to chill!* *Styles make fights.* *Fury's Nngannou performance* was no different from *AJ's first Ruiz performance.* Both Fury and AJ underestimated their opponent and picked the wrong style to fight them. Ruiz and Nngannou can both be EASILY outboxed - but you don't want to try and immediately walk them down, bully them, and chase the KO - because they are durable, short, stocky, and explosive fighters - and if you fight them on the inside (like Fury/AJ tried to do in their poor performances), then Ruiz/Nngannou have a good chance of catching you with their shorter, faster, more explosive arms. *But imagine Nngannou vs Ruiz or Martin Bakole! Ruiz is a lot worse than people realize - so it would be a great toe-to-toe war!*

Given the closeness of the rematch and the fact Joshua is going to force his way into contention the fight will always be worth it. I'm glad you're finally giving AJ his dues Carl, I think although you make some good points on the confidence issues and you're not wrong. You were quick to write him off and I'm probably paraphrasing here but basically saying he's finished. For me it just galvanises that old saying that you should never kick a man when he's down. I think AJ has shown great fortitude in the way he's handled himself since the Usyk losses and it's testiment to his character. Does he have what it takes to get back in there with Usyk and take back the belts? Let's maybe not get ahead of ourselves but I think we are starting to have good reason to believe that this style for AJ could be more competitive against an Usyk. Ben Davison to his credit seems to have been the catalyst to these changes and I'm liking this pairing. All of a sudden I think Fury/Aj/Boxing fans in general will be even more excited about the prospect of an AJ v Fury showdown and that is a hard fight to predict now, since it may depend on which versions of both men turn up on the night.
@domidarko11666 ай бұрын
The takeaway from this fight. Crossovers are dangerous. This wasn't the Mayweather vs Conor exhibition debacle where he played with him for show. This was a pro heavyweight fight with a prime looking, revitalised two-time champion of the world in AJ vs a very tough fighter but an amateur boxer in Ngannou. In hindsight, if Ngannou wasn't as tough as he is, my god this could have ended as a horror show with a very serious injury. But I guess money talks.
@niall39736 ай бұрын
I think when comparing the Fury's fight vs Ngannou against AJ's fight it's worth recognising that the fighters would have approached the actual fights objectively differently. Aside from the level of preparation done, I feel that Fury did not enter the ring with the mindset to blast Ngannou away, where as AJ did. Fury most likely wanted to put on some kind of good show, similar to Mayweather vs Mcgregor, and for the fight to last a good number of rounds giving value to those paying. Whilst AJ wanted to do the exact opposite, this was serious business. Obviously it went very wrong for Fury, but I think it's interesting to consider how that fight would have gone if Fury had approached it with a serious mindset. My respect for AJ has grown, though I do think it's very easy to question the limited data we have, and it's very difficult to confidently state that he would now fare any better against Usyk than the previous 2 times. I mean beating Helanius, Wallin and Ngannou is not that impressive a recent record, these are a massive step down from Usyk. If he'd taken say Parker's recent path of Wilder and Zhang then that would be a different matter.
@danielwoods35636 ай бұрын
One of the things that stood out to me is how ruthless AJ was with the final blow. Everyone could see Ngannou was compromised, and AJ showed absolutely no mercy, punching right through him, punching right down. I’m conflicted about the Usyk Fury fight. I want Usyk to win, but I also want to see AJ put paws on Fury, and also I don’t want to see Usyk fight this version of AJ because being such a naturally smaller man he could get seriously hurt. If Usyk wins against Fury, Usyk should exit the division. Already beat AJ twice back to back, would’ve beaten Fury, there would be no doubt he is the best skill wise, nothing more to prove.

Respect to Froch for giving AJ props. He'd given him a but of a hard time, but like a true Champ and Gentleman, he gives admiration when it's due. 😎

Carl's podcast is a breath of fresh air. Genuinely interesting and also humorous too. The cobra makes me laugh everytime. Would love to see Carl make a return in an exhibition and knock someone out. He could do it.

Froch now saying Francis doesn't belong in boxing and should leave. That's unfair. One good fight with Tyson Fury and one bad fight v AJ is no grounds to tell a guy to quit boxing.

I don't heat any contradiction, he just told it has it was. AJ did look a bit worried (1 punch can change the fight with these heavyweights), but it was obvious he also had something planned which he didn't let on.

Nice review Carl. AJ was somehow extremely fast. He was surfing. He decided to go for the big right hand and got results. I don't know if Ngannou will boxe again.

Glad you give him his due here Carl I’ve. Been on fence with AJ too last few years but I think he’s done a complete U turn now I’m rooting for him against fury I think this AJ takes fury’s head off crazy how it’s all changed so much, even the first knockdown last night Francis slid about 6foot after hitting the deck as Edward Hearn said “ he’s back”

Humans are weird. First francis fights fury, performs well and the whole world cheers him on, then he fights AJ(2x champ) and now you don’t want to ever see him box smh. Losing to AJ doesn’t make him less of a threat that he is

Fair play to Froch saying it, how it is with Joshua and showing the praise he deserves after last nights performance. Although at times it may of seemed Froch was being overly critical with joshua and his performances I think the criticism was well needed to allow Joshua to regain that confidence back and prove to us all he's the man!

AJ received 2 of the best boxing lessons of his life against Usyk.

The problem is... Tyson's next fight is in May... re-match around November so AJ vs Fury won't be until next year in 2025. And, if there's no re-match then the fight will be around Oct - Nov so AJ needs another fight in the meantime. So it's another risky fight whilst waiting for undisputed. He'll have to fight a Parker or Whyte or Zhang in the meantime. I don't understand why, he did two rounds against Francis and didn't receive a mark. He could fight this weekend but no, we'll have to wait for agessss

ive said it for years I believe a big puncher who can throw more than just a big right and mix up the combos will take out Fury, AJ vs Fury would be an easy win for AJ ;-)

Carl was 50 50 after talking to True Jordie on his podcast ....very different now...but since AJ has been with Ben Davison his feet have been great and that's how he is staying out of range and has the leverage for his power and Froch is right ..Furys face was priceless...Notice how Fury kept talking about the second fight with Usyk ? Fury should have been wearing brown trousers that night! 😂😂! 😂😂😂

Seeing Ngannou get comprehensively beaten by AJ in 2 rounds makes u wonder just how good Tyson Fury really is considering he almost lost against Ngannou & who got put on his arse aswell.

At the end of the day, Fury didn't train for the Ngannou fight and Joshua did, I doubt if Fury will make the same mistake against Usyk
@cdman77686 ай бұрын
Ngannou looked tired to me when he was sitting waiting in the dressing room...the win last night for AJ means nothing..it was a sparring session..AJ is still living the shaddows of Usyk and is still to fight Fury...AJ has had easy opponents since the Usyk defeats.. so lets keep this real.

Well AJ trained like it was a top level boxing match , so he took it proper seriously like a professional should, will do his confidence and bank balance a world of good.

I agree with you Froch, AJ is not in level of a Neophyte FN in boxing, FN tried to switch to a lefthanded and open his right side face to AJ and capitalized it.

Just admit you were dead wrong Froch. You thought it would be competitive. You got caught up in the Ngannou hype. Shame on you.

@sicboy37496 ай бұрын
I disagree about Aj looking cagey before the fight, his pre fight entrance to the arena was timed to perfection, nobody in Francis corner had the knowledge & made a big mistake having him sat in the changing rooms for nearly 5 hours before the fight, I thought it was Ngannou who looked lost & glassed at the start, a bit like when your plane gets delayed for hours, it changes your mood & comfort.

He’s not a boxer he’s an mma fighter. Why do the boxing governors allow theses mismatches. Joshua could have carried him until the later rounds but wanted to stamp his authority it’s a shame he can’t do that against usyk
@JSL20006 ай бұрын
It took Marquez 4 fights to eventually beat Manny Pacquiao. Also, in The UFC Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock had 3 fights which Ortiz won 3-0. So, there's definitely a demand out there for certain fights and I think AJ - Usyk 3 would be a blockbuster.
@hoi-polloi18636 ай бұрын
I see it in theory, but ... to some extent it would seem like the boxing world is pushing AJ and won't rest until he finally gets a win over Usyk. Isn't twice in a row enough? I'd rather we get some fresh matchups. (To be honest, I will admit your analogy with Marquez/Pacquiao is strong and I can't write it off completely)
@JSL20006 ай бұрын
@@hoi-polloi1863 Thanks for reply. I think there's always a demand for a fight with jeopardy. The thoughts of 'I wonder who'll win this time'. I think there's room for one more super fight if AJ can keep looking good. But, I think that would be the end of that rivalry after fight 3. Otherwise it could end up being like the NBA Finals where we have a best of seven!
@carlellis2426 ай бұрын
I disagree I never saw AJ nervous in fact I thought opposite, he was imo so calm throughout whole thing then in ring just looked like he was there to dismantle whoever was in front of him. Scary stuff. Props to AJ. Also Francis went southpaw then got dropped for the first knockdown
@SpecializedRider2496 ай бұрын
You say Ngannou lost both professional boxing fights? Ahem, did you not see the fight with Tyson Fury? 😂 He actually won. There is no way that anyone can deny it, regardless of whether Tyson was on form or not. He got his ass handed to him. Ngannou is now 1-1 in professional boxing.
@amu74996 ай бұрын
Pretty much spot on from everything Froch said here imo. Surprised no one has mention the slow count on the first ko and why Ngannou team allowed A.J to box with skin coloured gloves as well!!
