We are getting darn close to having our selves a rust free 1955 Chevy Nomad! Now when I say "rust free", it still is a dented up left for dead beater. But rust free non the less!
The final bits of rust on the entire car are in a very weird location on the fire wall. Best I can guess is there was a nest of some sort under the hood that caused problems with draining over the years. Missing a windshield for 10+ years probably didn't help the situation. I wanted the fire wall cleaned, repaired and painted before the body swap so I wasn't cutting and grinding on the rebuilt chassis.
With the firewall repaired I did some final checks/welds to make sure the body was structurally sounds to be hoisted up and swapped on a different frame. This is the last step before the rust free body meets its new, rust free home.
Send me an email: dan@ddspeedshop.ca
Also buy a shirt so I can buy more hood scoops:

Great workmanship almost like you bought a complete new rust free body. That you built yourself. When was a kid a neighbor bought a new 1955 Nomad it had a yellow body with white roof and the most beautiful interior with tinted windows all around, Was the car that made me love Nomads Can still see it in my memory today

Dan you might want to check those rest out areas on the fire wall to see if the drain channels were blocked which caused the rust blow out. The 55 cars were notorious for this. The plenum grill, between the windshield and hood needed these drains to remove water after rain for washing. Best of all to you .

Each to his own But I would have cut out the complete fire wall and built a new one ! There is rust compacted in those seems and will rust again in the near future. Otherwise good effort on the rest of the car 👍.

Dan, anybody who didn't like metal working the best would never have gotten where you have now! You took a car with a halfway decent chassis and just the roof, a, b and c pillars while everything else was rust ridden back into a car! Whenever the next parts of the build get you down, just admire all your metal working and know that nobody else would have undertaken it.

We ran fender well headers on our 55 with 3" side pipes tucked under the rockers (no burnt legs). It was slick and sounded GREAT! BTW, black hammertone paint is excellent for firewall, floor, wheel tubs, etc. as it has a slight texture and is tough as heck once dry!

I used tall saw horses with adjustable legs and picked the front up a ways with my cherry picker and put the saw horses under and did the same at the rear. repeat until high enough. Along with the saw horses I used a 4X4 long enough to span the body width. Worked great for me and I could put the saw horses etc.out of my way.

The Nomad started life in Germany around 1931 as a Volkswagen Amphibious Attack Vehicle. Then served as a Staff car to General Otto Van Dunckledinger. After the War it was used to escape to Argentina with Otto, his lover, and 40 million in SS gold. It...Like Otto had extensive surgery to alter its looks. The car to a 55 Chevy Nomad, and Otto as a 53 Pontiac named Lucy. The Nomad was sold to a Rum Runner named Howard Stark in the States. The Avengers used it to go back in time once 88 MPH was reached, and stolen by Al Capone to smuggle Beanie Babies between Canada, and Spain. In 2009 it was abandoned near Edmonton. You are a lucky man. If that car had something to do....it did it. TRUE STORY

Firewall was body color. Your car, etc....You know my routine by now Dan. You're the builder.. If memory serves me correct, a yellow car exterior; popular interior colors choices were then; yellow, black or green??? Naturally there might have been more? I don't remember what GM offered when new, this is what I kind of remember. (Interior colors were dependent on exterior colors, if that makes any sense. Example; if you ordered the grape color exterior which was a late in the year color, you probably wouldn't be able to order a yellow interior, not that you would want to.) Anyway, future Dan will have this Nomad back on the road soon!!!! DID I HEAR,,,,,MORE MUR????? YES! You & MUR polishing this Nomad.....yeah...
