In case anyone was wondering, the reason that the red cabbage turned blue with bicarbonate of soda is because red cabbage juice is an indicator, meaning that it shows substance's pH value according to the pH scale. The bicarb is an alkali, therefore it appears blue because of it's pH value. 👍🏽

This is not really the food colour challenge because normally when people do this challenge they have to buy food that are already the certain colour their challenge is for an example you chose blue so u could get blueberrys etc, I think dying your foods in blue colour is a cheat and makes the challenge less a challenge. Shadoxo nothing per se it’s just got chemicals in it so I preferred the red cabbage and bicarbonate approach - also it was really fun to experiment and make the dye :)
