Tip for shampoo bars: rub them directly onto your head/hair to lather them up. The texture of your hair makes them lather up so much more quickly and easily. And LUSH shampoo bars are the best - I've tried a lot and LUSH ones are the only ones which don't leave a residue in my hair!

I found the bars caused breakage when I scrubbed them directly on my hair. I had to use them basically dry with just a tiny bit of water on my hands. But you’re only supposed to wash the ends of your hair anyway.
@kylier60734 жыл бұрын
Cat McCloud why would you wash only your ends ? I’ve been taught to wash the roots of your hair since that’s where all the oil etc is at. The ends of your hair are the most dry and usually don’t need as much washing.
@CatMcCloud4 жыл бұрын
Queen K what I’ve heard is that if you wash at the root/scalp you risk stripping it of its natural oils and disrupting your skin’s moisture barrier, so then your body will compensate by overproducing oil, which is exacerbated by the oils in your conditioner, which makes you want to wash more... and so on in a vicious cycle. But I am not a dermatologist, so I can’t say I know for sure!

I use bar shampoo for over two years and when you find the brand/kind your hair love, you'll never go back. Also use the bar directly on the hair scalp. And the last thing I wanted to mention, don't worry about foam, it's just the trick for mind that your hair is more clean, but in general it's the same. With all of those products, you need to use them longer and find what you like, it's just about what you're used to ✌️💕

When you go from normal shampoo to a bar the hair needs some adjustment time because the ingredients are so different! I’ve been using a lush bar for about 4 months now and my hair has changed soooo much (for good!)
@sophdoeslife4 жыл бұрын
oh awesome thanks for this!!
@Lucy-io7pt4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Most normal shampoos and conditioners include silicones, these make your hair very silky smooth (but end up damaging your hair in the long run because they don't allow your hair follicle to absorb and retain moisture which is not good) and whilst you will be able to get a similar result with silicone free products it does take time for you and your hair to adjust to these products. This includes bar products. Just if anyone wanted a little more info about this. Thanks OC! :)

Hey Soph! Love this video soooo much!! On the whole sustainable products side of things, something I absolutely love is the Body Shop’s chamomile cleansing balm! It literally melts the makeup off your face and also comes in a tin so is fully recyclable, or you can take it back to them and they recycle in pretty much all of their stores I think. Honestly a game changer for me with removing my makeup!!❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been a cruelty free beauty blogger for eight years and you really did choose some of the best brands, I was practically cheering! The Body Shop do a lovely Shea Butter shampoo (no excess oil left behind but doesn’t strip hair either) in a recyclable bottle. When summer comes you might want to try deodorant in a twist up stick form as they are more resilient but not recycled by councils (like Manchester) who only do plastic bottles not general containers.

Yeah, thank you for making videos. It gives me at least a little time after the hard work-at-home day to sit and spend for myself - checking favourite youtubers, doing my nails, reading a book, anything, to keep me feeling ok about myself in those unpleasant times. I'm not panicked and I'm an introvert so I take all the opportunities of this situation, but my thoughts are with all the people struggling to get medical help around the world, because in most countries the hospitals are just full and their capacity is over times more. So I thank you for giving me inspiration to keep myself green while at home and just to have anything else to think of for at least 10 mins. Kisses from Bulgaria

People where I live now (moved to different state)dont understand alot of what I'm saying. Lol. But from state to state in the US have different accents. Hi Soph, I've been watching you for years and your content is helping to keep my spirits up these days. Thanks for posting this and encouraging people to try out low/no waste beauty! I'm trying to replace my current products with more sustainable options as I go. One thing I'd highly recommend is making your own dry shampoo. I used to go through a can of Batiste every two weeks and my scalp often felt itchy. Now I mix a jar of equal parts cornstarch, arrowroot powder, and Aztec clay powder (the super popular face mask powder on Amazon) plus cinnamon and unsweetened cocoa powder to match my hair colour. I dab it on with a flat foundation brush before bed and wake up looking squeaky clean and smelling like a cookie! I used to be stuck washing my hair every second day even with dry shampoo and now I can go 2 or 3 days between washes and never have an irritated scalp. Sometimes you do have to settle a bit when using sustainable, but I would never go back to regular dry shampoo now; I love the results of my DIY kind soooo much more!

I believe you had a hard time getting the shampoo bar to lather because you had just put coconut oil in your hair and it was all over your hands. So the first time you used it it basically just removed the oil on your hands. As far as tooth paste is concerned, you can use baking soda, that’s what they used in the depression era. You are looking so beautiful and happy. Don’t really notice any extra anxiety, good for you. I know you have worked hard to achieve this. Excited about your move and your Skinny Dip part two!! You, Sophie Louise, Jazzybum & Emma (Emma’s Rectangle) are all killing it lately. So proud of all of you girls!!!

When you switch to natural shampoo there usually is an adjusting period, so you won't see the real results after a single use. I've been using solid shampoo for a few years and recently decided to buy a soap bag, it helps to add friction so you don't need to rub it as long to make it foam. If you're into crafts it should be easy enough to crochet one with cotton thread, and it will work with any soap bar.
