Well actually it's worth it to upgrade brawlers from the beginning, because the fallback reward for gadgets (If you have all of them) is 1000 coins, but for star powers it's also 1000 coins, so you're losing out a lot (For hypercharges it's also 1000 coins for some reason, but it doesn't matter atm)
