Covers the coins in dirt and moisture. Coins of diff value depending on the dates/the royalty and quality. Also that small wood box reminds me of something like a small orthodox christian wooden box I've seen, an icon box. The lock design of the larger box does show the box's age. Try looking for old patterns or names that likely has been worn down over time.
