I paid over $1000 for Emagic Logic Audio 2.6 in 1996! And then all the virtual instruments were separate products on top of that! The EXS 24 was $650.00 alone :) The kids have no idea how good they have it!

I still have all the Logic Pro 8 discs, but not the Encyclopedias. I (only) paid $500 the year it was released, and was going to school for Audio Production at the time. We were using Digital Performer before then, so Logic Pro was a huge upgrade. The studio I was working at asked what I needed to produce with and gave me the company credit card, then took half out of my first check. I immediately drove to Guitar Center and picked up the last copy, a half hour before they closed. To this day, it was the greatest return on investment I have ever experienced. By the way, what ever happened to Wave Burner? I loved using that program to master and arrange albums, back then.

Funny, I just started my Mac-Mini and I was notified I have a free Logic Pro update to version 11.0.1. It's scanning my audio units as I watched this video and so far is on 568 of 1009. Such a great value now as I have been able to transfer Logic into my Mac systems as I upgraded the hardware through the years. I hope they don't change to a subscription service as many others have done as I simply don't use that often to make it worth it for me, but nice to have it when I have the time to play around with it.

I remember seeing this pack in guitar center, with a bundle deal for the software and a Mac. I was using a Yamaha MM model mixing console, and i was so happy when i bought it( it was used, of course) i also remember thinking who would buy this software for that price, and why would you want to use fake instruments. I was aware of protools, but to me, that was for the big-time studios. I also used my garage for recording and mixing. I still have mountains of "old" gear. Some it works, and some don't. Thanks for the memories. I will never forget that box.

I have memories of huge paper software manuals. I am really grateful Logic Pro 11 update is free. I love the new features, particularly the new bass and keyboards session players and the stem splitting capability which works amazingly well compared to other ways I've done it. Logic Pro has plenty of critics but I consider it an amazing deal and it has capabilities nothing else has without third party add-ons.

I don't remember the price or the version, and previously I'd had scoring (Professional Composer? Mosaic?) and Performer from Mark of the Unicorn, but I first got Logic in a very quick upgrade succession. I bought the very first MacBook which had the first version of Garage Band on it. 3 hours and I made a one-minute piece of music and was hooked. The next day I bought Logic Express and the day after that I bought Logic Pro.

The $1000 package (v7.0) was out before I got my first Mac. It went down to $500 for that big black box (v8.0) and was what I paid at the local Apple Store in Syracuse, NY. Funny they managed to put it into a plastic bag with a tie string and was almost ripping through the bag by the time I got it home. Fortunately with v9.0 they condensed it all down into a small box with only the installer disks and a basic quick start manual with serial numbers.

Yeah that said the base download of a lot of daws is still sitting at around $500+ Logic is lower cost. An exception to that right now is stuff like Luna that is free, reaper is also fairly low cost but most others have tiers the "Studio" levels of these things is high even reason rack on its own is $500 all plugins version of fl studio normal price is above that mark while sale prices may vary, bitwig studio I think was around that price. but you might save $50 or $100 if you pick up essentials with something else. its easy to rack up a few thousand dollars for a "year" of the current version of many daws like if you want to use bitwig, fl studio, reason and cubase the costs add up pretty heavily, this is partially why I think most non professional folks pirate because they want to try everything... that said a few plugins can cost $1000 these days the prices are various, and $1000 in 20 years ago money is probably like $2000 now. That said I still think the best deals for sortware generally come with hardware packages. This is as AI more or less can make songs now for people that don't want top quality sound but just want acceptable sound. Also protools is also sitting around that $600 mark. I think that is more or less where they are all sitting about $500 to $600

@@BarryJohns Yes, but Logic Studio (which introduced Logic Pro 8, which's what's on the cover of the manual you're holding at 4:33 into this video), was launched on September 12th 2007. Indeed, Logic Pro 7 was introduced earlier, you're right, but that's not what you're showing in the video! That aside, great video! I've been a Logic user since 2002 (at Emagic Logic Gold v4.8) and you're right, younger users might indeed take it for granted that everything that comes with Logic Pro 11 today has always been included. I remember the fuss that was made when the ES1 and ESX24 came out! Revolutionary for their day.

I bought Logic Pro 7 guessing around 1991 maybe. I worked for Apple at the time and so got a 50% discount. My plan was to gain expertise in music production. The demands of my job and the daunting task of learning Logic when i had no prior experience with DAWs resulted in me not doing much with Logic. Later in life, I used Garage Band a fair amount. Then around 2012-2013 I switched to Logic Pro, price: $200. Now i'm retired, so I use Logic a lot for songwriting and music production and learning (that never ends does it?). You did not mention the free upgrades nor the ability to run Logic on all your Macs for no additional cost (in my case, iMac and MacBook Pro). so, $200 on 2 computers for ($200 / 11years) $18 per year. That's almost free. ;)

I guess you wildly mix up the decades. Logic was released in 1993 by Emagic in Germany and Apple took over only in 2002. I bought my first Logic version in 1994 and it was simply called Logic (later Logic Audio) - no Pro in the name. Logic Pro 7 had been released in September *2004* - not "around 1991".
