Yeah I worked at the most popular patisery in my city and we had extreamly tallented cake decorators. for a two tired simple fondant cake with toppers that would at most be $150-$200. The first one although cute was a compleate rip off.

Ok so i actually really loved the first cake, maybe not for $500 but i thought it was a fun and fresh idea. It was an elegant and sophisticated take on ice cream. Also that bakery has a strong identity. I would know what to expect when i went to them (based on this and the stag cake). If its not your style then go somewhere else, lol. The other 2 were very impressive! That third one though, that bakery needs to charge more!

If they can't make a $500 cake for ANY reason then they should just say so and discuss with the customer what can be done with the time given and then price out that cake. The first one had the most polish. There wasn't as much decoration, but everything they did do was perfect. The others had places where the fondant wasn't laying flat or had very visible seams. It's also the cake that fell over though so...

I’m in the minority here as I actually *love* the first cake, it’s neat and tidy, obviously ice cream themed, the colours are pretty and the little details with the gold leaf and sprinkles finish it off nicely. The second cake looks like it would taste the best, but it’s also a little messy and looks like the cheapest to me. The third cake looks like soooo much sickly icing and doesn’t really strike me as having anything much to do with ice cream, it’s more of a child’s unicorn themed cake. All very impressive cakes though ☺️❤️

The first one is aesthetically the most professional looking. Its definitely "less" fun though than the 2nd. I think the 2nd wins overall even though I think it does look cluttered because its reminiscent of those crazy sundaes I use to get as a kid. Also her saying it literally smells like strawberries... That is part of a cakes experience and shouldnt be discounted.

I completely agree. I also loved the first cake. It was simple, elegant & the small details were done to perfection. Plus, I think it was the most polished of the three. The second was fun but it looked a little gaudy & messy to me. The last, though impressive, looked more suitable for a child. The design of the first is definitely more to my taste but to others the second or third is; therefore, whether someone likes or dislikes the design is obviously dependent on personal aesthetic preference - that’s why it’s so important that customers make it explicitly clear to bakers what style of design it is that they’re looking for.

Yeah, I think that aspect is pretty subjective. For me, the 2nd cake was WAY too overboard on the ice cream theme and was very busy... still awesome though. The third one dialed it back but still stayed on theme and had a HUGE wow factor. That said, I agree that it could have used a bit more of the theme. Like maybe the unicorn standing on one HUGE scoop of melting ice cream or something else simple that wouldn't have made it too busy. Some people though like busy... like I said, kind of subjective.

The 2nd cake is based off of a “kitchen sink” sundae. It’s supposed to look like that. I think they actually nailed it the most with the theme. Kitchen sink is the biggest ive cream sundae you can have normally.

The second cake made me think of Alice in wonderland with the teacup, chequered ‘floor’ etc. It was great but the alternating pretzels and sweets going around it bugged me a little, they were almost too uniform which went against the theme of the decoration, for me they could’ve either lined them up perfectly or placed them more randomly, still an awesome cake though

The third cake is awesome, but still a round cake with a topper - an amazing, incredible topper though! Loads and loads better than the first one. For the theme I like the second cake the best. The first one was cute, but not worth $500.

I feel like the second cake fit the ice cream theme better. The last cake was the most worth it because that takes a great amount of skill, considering fondant dries up really quickly. If the theme was unicorn or pastel then definitely the last cake would have won, in my book, at least.

The second cake was amazing, but my one issue is I'm one of those people that if I ask for a cake, I want a cake. The cake was small with other stuff piled on, most of which did still seem good, except the fondant, it just felt like it wasn't really cake.

I didn't like how haphazard and slapped together it felt. Like, I can make a round cake with a bunch of store bought dessert items and candied stacked on top myself, the only place you got any sense of skill was the bottom dish part. Not sure if it feels worth $500 to me.

I thought #2 was creative. So many places now serve a shake with a 🍩or a piece of cake on a stick, there are ice cream parlors that serve "the kitchen sink" or "ice cream boats" with 24 scoops, whip, candies, jimmies, and toppings. It looked like you were going to have sticky hands from ice cream, messy from everything that your child like excitement had to put on your ice cream. 😁

I was a decorator b4 my hands became impaired they were all beautiful cakes the last 2 were real show stoppers the 1st one was beautiful as well a simpler asthetic which based on the Xmas cake too seems like the design style of the bakery better simple elegant beauty than extravagant cake disaster

and we can understand simple elegance, but the cake looked dated (I wholehartedly agreed with Kevin when he said it), and too simple for a 3D cake. In all honesty can you tell me it was worth $500? I would price that closer to $280. I have no problem with simple cakes but the merchant should be honest with the client. Tell them its not going to be 3D, and it will look on the simpler side so they can make an accurate decision as to if they want to do business with you or decide to get somone else.
