All joking aside, this is an exceptionally well made short film. Your performance as Caleb feels totally real and alive. Instead of going for a cheap, exaggerated "dude-bro," you played him as someone that appears very surface-level, but actually has incredible depth. His relationship with Danny, while definitely comedic, also reveals a level of tenderness (that he's so invested in their friendship, even if Danny's still a kid and they spend their time playing CoD; Caleb is portrayed as valuing Danny's advice, and taking a real interest in what he has to say when he talks about playing Zombies). The climax of the video just brings everything together. The subtle shift from reading the letters in a monotone drone to the welling up of his emotion as he remembers just how much he cares about Stacy is touching, and realizing that Stacy had called him to break up herself is heartbreaking. Caleb may not be the smartest guy around--let's be real, he can be kinda stupid, like when he still tried to read the breakup letter to Stacy even after he'd started to realize how much he cares about her--but deep down, he's got a good heart. If I'm being totally honest, the world could do with more Calebs.

This was one of the first videos I ever saw by Joel, and I'm pretty sure it helped cement my appreciation for his humor style. The subtext in Caleb's fondness for the mostly-restaurant-centered memories of his girlfriend is so funny by itself, but on top of that you have like three or four layers of other jokes on top of that at all moments of this sketch. There's also this very prevalent sense of realness. Joel doesn't shy away from showing someone corpse mid-line, or say something in an awkward way. Not every line is delivered like in a movie and that brings such a refreshing element to his works. There's so much to appreciate in the subtlety and the genuine nature of Joel's videos. I love it

You know that c. is deep down a chill and nice guy just by the fact that he didn't try to pay those writers in "exposure"

"Hope I get my 21 bucks back, that's a lot to me" It's really sad that I know many people like this.

I watched this like a month ago and had the most surreal experience. I’d been debating on breaking up with my girlfriend for a while and started binge watching your videos and this one came up so I found that funny already. Going through the video I’m having a good time because I’m nothing like this character even though we’re in the same situation but I kid you not when he got the phone call from his girlfriend saying she wants to talk my phone started ringing next. I see it’s from my girlfriend so I start laughing because the universe is trying to play some prank on me. Then she says “we need to talk” and that right there was the icing on the cake. Something was trying to trick me into relating to Caleb and I was dying. Anyway that was a really fun coincidence so thank you Joel.

I already knew from the animations and other shorts that you were talented, but just, wow. The emotion and character depth you put into Caleb and the small unspoken, yet obvious, things in here and your delivery of the lines elevated such a seemingly simple skit into something more. You continue to impress me, well done Joel.
