My youngest sister absolutely loves Taylor Swift, she even used this flower dress as inspiration for her (outdoor covid safe) prom dress! I wonder how many hours the sewing took vs the painting. I think with the cutting, edging, and then sewing it would be way more than 20 hours. Crazy thing is the dress Taylor wore was probably all hand embroidered

So beautiful. Truly. A couple of tips for working with fabric and paint if you ever want to do this/something similar again in the future. Fabric paint is most typically a mixture of acrylic paint with an extender. So you don't necessarily need to go out and buy specific fabric paints - pure acrylic can work pretty well (at least for a project like this). Do not forget to heat-set it though, so it can go through normal wash cycles. About 10 minutes ironing (on the reverse side) after painting should be sufficient. Also, to prevent so much colour paint absorption, you can prime the fabric first with extender and a base colour. Primed fabric can be a little stiff though, so not always the most comfortable when painting directly onto the fabric against your skin (unless it's already a thicker type of fabric like canvas/denim types), but for this kind of project it would be ideal, so you don't have to use so much colour paint per flower. Most commercially available mounted painters canvas' are primed already with a plain white paint.

I am a very ancient fabric artist that was floored by this project! It was BEAUTIFUL and made me so happy. Painting on fabric is not for the faint of heart and you did a FANTASTIC job. Oh my goodness!!! First, I was excited to watch the flowers being painted!! I’ve been working on painting all different flowers, so that’s why I clicked on the vid! Then, OMG, then, after the most beautiful flowers were painted on the fabric, it became a top, so incredibly gorgeous, I really don’t have words!!! Enormous kudos to you both!! This is a very cool idea for a high end clothing line. I say high-end as this amazing top took so many personal, one on one, hours to make. You can try priming your fabric first then painting the flowers! Priming it beforehand gives you a better base for your subject, also when it gets cut into pieces, they don't fray ☺️ But this is so amazing still!!! Great job to you both 💖

If you use a canvas fabric use a primer or gesso (jess-oh) . It will keep the paint from soaking into the canvas next time. Golden or Liquitex makes some goodgesso. And fast drying gessoes.
