Loving all of your videos Simon. As a newbie part time clothing reseller your content really helps me look out for brands and styles I would have probably never considered. Keep up the great work 👍

Great Find That Filson Jacket. Brilliant brand to Resell - I sold a pair of the hunting trousers pretty much ruined, marks all over and the legs were distressed as anything for £70. Crazy prices.

£15 for jeans that sell for £30 plus your standard £3.97 postage should have been avoided as it simply diluted your better value for money purchases. £15 into £33.97 means cost of goods is too high at 44% of the total sale and then if they sit a while and you do your usual 10% off then £30.96 so nearly 49% COG in relation to the total sale. Let's say you promote fairly high and your fees on average with the VAT are 25% of the sale and you pay flat rate VAT @ 7.5% of the sale then at £33.97 then £8.49 fees and £2.55 flat VAT then £3 EVRI postage and £15 COG = £29.04 leaving you only £4.93 which is only 14.5% of the sale as a whole. Then of course it could get worse because you have the free returns so that would then add two lots of £3 postage making the relative cost of goods £21 which would be soul destroying going to sell the 2nd time around. You could literally spend a quid and make £4.50 on a much lower end random item turning over well under half compared with those jeans. I try to make my cost of goods no more than 25% of the sale proceeds as a whole ( less is better ) as I'm always shooting for a profit of minimum 40% of the sale as a whole plus my cost of goods back. You'd have had more of a win leaving those items behind and capitalising on the great finds.

Hi thanks for the in-depth cost breakdown, I do work on averages for my store , currently my buy costs are £4.02 per item over the last 3 months. Sometime I pay too much but overall my COGs are where I want them to be, thanks for watching and hope you have a great week Simon

@@thegentlemanmarketeer this was more for your viewers as you will be well aware of your costs but there are folk out there who cannot get to grips with numbers so the breakdown will have been informative for them. I don't go by average cost of goods as it's irrelevant but keep the purchase price within my % tolerances of the expected sale price.
