I played through all of Lego Rock Band on DS and had a lot of fun, I loved the little challenge songs that tied to the story mode and I absolutely loved customizing the Lego band. The only version of it I played on consoles is the Wii version, and it seems to have impossible to fix lag for me. I tried it on both Wii and WiiU and either the Rock Band guitar doesn't like the game or the calibration is broken. So I can't give a proper review of the game on console, but playing the setlist on Rock Band 2, 3 and GH Definitive Edition: the songs are absolutely amazing to play. Some are hits, some are misses, but overal the game is fun and it makes me think of what they did for Warriors of Rock, just very child friendly and with Lego. I love the humour and graphics and I bet this guy is gonna absolutely dunk on the game.

My friend and i are obsessed with all rhythm games so we played through almost all guitar hero and rock band games, one of which being lego rockband, and for whatever reason, in career mode, there are certain songs where the game chooses a random song from the ones youve already unlocked. Our game kept picking check yes Juliet by we the kings every single time, to the point where we now both have war flashbacks every time we hear the first notes of that song. Pretty sure we played that song hundreds of times. That game was really unhinged for no reason lmao

I also give GH5 props for the Challenge System that rewards FCing songs and using specific instruments to complete different challenges. Additionally, the instrument optimization level was vastly superior to GH World Tour especially on Vocals. Finally, the character designs and overall production value was the best in the whole franchise in my opinion.

GH5 is my favourite in the series because my first impression on it was seeing the difference in graphics between Wii and 360. I always wanted to own an Xbox just so my Guitar Hero didn't look like someone had smeared vaseline all over it. The entire game has a lot of cool visuals and has my favourite character designs for some of the unlockable costumes. Izzy and Pandora have my all-time favourite secret outfits. On top of that, when I played it, I was able to put in most of the World Tour songs and it just made the game more enjoyable.

So a little fun fact (if no one has said it here yet): the more forgiving nature of Guitar Hero 3 (by that I mean how the game handles how you hit notes and do hammer-ons and pull-offs) was done by complete accident. It was a glitch that they didn't bother to fix until Guitar Hero Aerosmith, where the HOPOs were made to work more like World Tour. The infinite front end of how notes are hit would be replicated in Clone Hero

@@theharvardyard2356 Yes. Reviews (and presumably players too) cited that they appreciated that Rock Band trended more serious while WoR going in the opposite direction was not as well-received. Retrospectives a few years later affirm this attitude and seem to suggest that GH deserved to die in part because it wasn't taking itself as seriously. I don't agree with them, but that was the attitude by many back then, and the series wasn't selling well enough by then to help refute their claims.

Great video! I loved pretty much every minute of it. As a Guitar Hero veteran, I always love seeing videos about Guitar Hero from a casual player's point of view. This is a great ranking, and you did the right decision by putting Warriors Of Rock at number 1. That game is so underrated, and that is my go-to Guitar Hero game on console. Clone Hero is great and all, but my preferred game on PC is World Tour Definitive Edition. It's nice you gave it a shout-out at the end, but I would've loved to see you talk about it a little more. Your top 3 is pretty much my top 3 as well. Warriors Of Rock is my definitive console GH game. GH3 was my first GH game. And World Tour is the GH game I put the most hours into, and especially more so after Definitive Edition came out in 2021. And I loved how you absolutely destroyed Guitar Hero 5, because I also remember as a kid thinking that GH5 wasn't a real Guitar Hero because of the clean and corporate aesthetics it had compared to GH3 and World Tour. And I also think GH2 being so low in the ranking was a little undeserving. I agree that it's a pain to play on a flat screen. But if you manage to get your hands on a CRT or a TV with very little input and audio lag, the first three Guitar Hero games are some of the greatest. The Guitar Hero 2 engine is such a rewarding engine when you play cleanly and nail that tricky section. All of them are better than Smash Hits, that's for sure. I hate the charting in that game. But in the end, great video. I have also thought about ranking each of the songs included in every Guitar Hero game.
@imklubb8 ай бұрын
I agree with you wholeheartedly! I unfortunately didn't know much about WTDE until I was basically done playing all the games, but I'm definitely playing it casually now! Wish I would've been a bit more informed about it as I was working on this video As for GH2, honestly... I think you're right. I might need to take better look at it in the future, maybe even go out of my way to get a CRT. I loved it growing up and I still love it now, but yeah... Saying it's worse than Smash Hits.... Doesn't even feel right as I was typing that. So might update my official list on my ranking at some point. I'm super happy you watch the whole thing! And I'm glad you enjoyed it! I actually considered ranking the songs or making a list of my favorites, but well after I had already played the games so I decided not to. Plus the video might have been 4 hours then 😂
@theharvardyard23567 ай бұрын
@@imklubbyeah, I was also surprised that given the time and dedication shown in the whole rest of the video, getting all the peripherals even including co-op, you didn't bother to find a cheap little CRT to give the older games a fair shake. 2 points about Guitar Hero Van Halen: 1. You can tell it was probably developed before 5 and Band Hero because the startup screen still has the old Guitar Hero logo instead of the newer one on the cover art. Gives credence to the idea of it being kind of a throw in installment. 2. IIRC (heard this from another video, don’t remember which one) the non-Van Halen songs on it aren’t really chosen based on the usual criteria of “inspiration or opening act.” It’s basically whatever was on Eddie Van Halen’s iPod circa 2009, which explains some of the weirder additions.

Band Hero over 5 felt like a personal attack, but dope video! Also, back then, on Guitar Hero 5, if you kept the manuals for all your guitar hero games from before, you could enter the code on the back of those booklets to download the base game setlists from all of them. It was a hub for all the songs past.

This was a FANTASTIC watch. Really hoping you do this for the Rock Band series and other rhythm games and then do a massive ranking of all of them!

I'm the opposite. I actually really love Guitar Hero 5 for the star challenge system, superior instrument optimization especially on Vocals, and probably the best character designs and overall production value in the entire franchise.

I've watched this over 3 sittings and it is honestly one of the best videos I've ever seen on KZbin. I can't imagine the work that must have gone into this the script and all of the sudden changes of pace and surprise sequences were inspired. Just absolute dedication this is high art, unbelievable man!

Glad i'm not the only one who was disappointed in GH5. I got it on the wii for Christmas 09 and after playing it I felt backstabbed; partly because GH5 was bad, partly because that specific port was A W F U L. Overall, this was a great video. There are some nits i could pick they're all about as minor as the core gameplay changes Neversoft made after World Tour
@salarzx62090Ай бұрын
Disagree. I think Guitar Hero 5 was pretty good
@RubyRoksАй бұрын
@@salarzx62090 It's one of the least lead guitar centric setlists, it's one of the buggier engines, and there are massive issues with anything other than the Xbox 360 version. If none of that is an issue for you, that's awesome and i hope you continue to enjoy the game. I'd rather play 5's songs in Clone Hero or Warriors of Rock.
@salarzx62090Ай бұрын
@@RubyRoks I have the game on PS3 and it works just fine. It holds up so well, in my opinion. Yeah, it's not as rock centric but it still has a bunch of great songs, especially for drums, which I'm ok with. I definitely disagree with this guy's take on it being as bad as he makes it out to be. Even worse than Band Hero, yeah, no. Not to me.

Ay, fantastic video! First one I've seen by you and I look forward to checking out what else you got. Way back in the days of yore (like 10 years ago?) I was 12ish and my brothers were going hard at trying to beat TtFatF on expert, they were able to do it eventually and that's all I hear from them anytime guitar hero is brought into conversation xd BUT they used some technique where they would have rubber bands over the green button for the intro to help them focus on the rest of notes. Then once the intro was over they would pause, take them off and continue as normal. With a lot of that, plenty of monster/red bulls and a sleepless weekend, they eventual got it!

A helpful hint for some of the songs on Guitar Hero 3. Raining Blood - on the fast part where you place fast descending notes, instead of viewing them as hammer on notes, view it as a chord you need to play with those 4 notes but roll your hand into the chord formation (like an arpegio) instead of outright doing the chord. this keeps all your fingers closer together to allow you to basically play between 2 "arpegiated" chords back to back but hit the notes. One - once the song goes into its breakdown and gets "faster" where you play a bunch of green followed by a chord over and over. try to start each section with a down strum. meaning, fast strum the greens starting with a down strum on the first note, and it will end as a down strum on the chord. lift hand of on the rest in between, repeat. Through the Fire and Flames - if you are using one hand for the notes in the intro, focus more on lifting your fingers off the buttons instead of on the buttons. you will come to a grove where hitting the right color is not a challenge (as you just hold down green the hold time, you just need to lift off the color faster.

Currently on my 2nd viewing of the video. Thank you so much for doing this. In the last few months, I have spent entirely too much money getting an xbox one, xbox 360, wii, etc. One of the things that has brought me the most joy has been beatles rockband and guitar hero. This video is what sent me over the edge into going all out and buying GH 3, World Tour, etc. Thank you so much, again! It would be dope to see a rockband video.
