You keep me playing Domain Monarchs, as even though it was fairly recent I found my love of YGO, Monarchs have become one of my favourite decks to play, the only other close one being Stardust. Knowing there's someone willing to go play Monarchs in Tier 0 makes me happy to have it as the first deck I made IRL.

It's been like 7 years since I last heard about the all archetypes cube. Seems like a fun experience for people who like very high power formats.

What does that mean? All archtypes cube?

When you play this cube, you pretend that every card is part of every archetype. So if you use E - Emergency Call, you get to add any monster, because they're all HEROes. Nimble Beaver can summon any level 3 or lower monster, Shaddoll Fusion can summon any fusion etc. It's pretty wild, you can do pretty much anything you want.

You have complete control over what cards are in the cube. So you can choose to exclude stuff that would be too broken, like floodgate bosses or generic negates. Balancing is definitely really difficult though. If you can't do anything relevant going first, then you get OTKd every time, but if you can set up infinite negates, then only one person gets to play. Back in 2015 Hoban solved this problem by including cards like Nekroz of Valkyrus. They don't prevent your opponent from playing, but still give you a chance to survive.

Love it! I haven't played since 5 or 6 years and think about getting back into the game. Monarchs were my favourite deck by far and I liked the domain and extra deck variants. I'll try to play momarchs at my locals first before getting a competitive (budget) deck. Your build looks very interesting but I won't play it. Bystials are too expensive for me right now :D

Lithium playinc monarchs trying to go as far as possible vs best decks currently is inspiring. If you believe in your deck and do enough research experimenting with various techs maybe with right build non meta deck could do fairly good.

What if they made a rule change for tournaments where each match is a best of 3 and each player must use a different deck each round? Tier 0 wouldn't matter so much since you'd have two other decks that people would need to run. There would be strategy involved in what order you play the decks in. The meta would expand dramatically as would the skill ceiling. Biggest downside would be the cost. I don't know, just an idea.

I dropped ttt, space and I felt the deck is weak to force interaction, especially if the brick chance is higher than Tear/Spright. Mainly also people play less hand traps..

Not surprised the Pros love the T1 format, but I appreciate they are aware it might not be the best for the game, at least long term. I'd like to see the Tear field spell go to 0 or 1, and then limit each of the Ishizu cards to 1. Tear would still be very powerful but would bring it back enough there is no longer a T1 format.

It’s not just the casual issue. This specific tier zero deck messes up timing for duels due to the insane amount of chains. Besides they banned a synchro that mills the same amount but is less accessible than these cards in an archetype . And a tier zero meta ruins creativity and players pushing tings forward in the game.

Got to push back against the “single deck metas rewards the better player” a bit. Yes, when player A beats player B 90+ percent of the time in the mirror, it’s fair to call Player A the better X player. However, if player A has bad ability to read the meta and little knowledge of other decks, and has overall win rate is 30% to B’s 50 percent, how on earth is A the better player?

Tbf knowledge of other decks is irrelevant for meta players, especially in a tier 0 format since a tier 0 deck has no bad matchup, thus reading opponent's deck on the spot is enough. As far as competitiveness goes, yes A would be the better player. If you put A outside of competitive scene however, I can't say...

This is unrelated, but is Dark World deck out or should be. I can't imagine worse meta for them than this where every deck plays 9 d.d crows, gy shuffling and every non Tear plays Shifter and Necrovalley. I hope Konami will ban at least something for DW to shine. That brings me to something related. Banning Shifter might keep Tear alive even with heavy hits. That might be a fair solution and also enable some less powerful gy based decks.

I hate this argument “keep the casuals happy” it’s not just the casuals, it’s also competitive players on a budget or people who want to get into competitive play. Josh looks down and Shames budget players do bad and uses “casual” as a pejorative. People don’t choose to play worse decks, it’s because they have to because of their budget.

I think it is bcz Yu-gi-oh is just not good in balance and skill at the same time for most formats, so pros want tier 0 formats where they get rewarded for their superior gameplay and tech choices against a well-preparable strategy. It shouldn't be like that, konami should be able to print at least 4-5 archtypes on similar power levels, which aren't braindead to play and you're rewarded for your superior techs & gameplay without just opening floodgate for W. Many other TCGs can do that, we should be able to do it too.
